Yee-hah! It's rodeo time! Bareback bronc riding, barrel racing, calf roping, the livestock show, the fiddling contest, and don't forget lunch -- how are Katie and Cameron going to fit it all in and still have time to help their uncle, Cactus Joe, with chores? By making a schedule, of course. But making a schedule and sticking to it turn out to be two very different things!
The idea of this book is planning a schedule. The children need to be on time. They fail to be on time the first time because when they write down their schedule they don't write down the finish times of the activities and therefore don't plan enough time to get to their final activity. They succeed the second time, not because they learned yet about writing down finishing times and travel times, but because they get lucky. Then they learn about planning finishing times and transportation times. And so are they on time the third time? Well, they would have been, they left at the right time, but everything goes wrong so they end up needing to be saved by a clown in order to get there on time.
So the moral is: Don't bother planning your schedule because if you don't properly plan, sometimes you will be late and sometimes you will be on time, and if you do properly plan, you will most likely be late unless someone bails you out.
It was ok, not really worth taking up space on my book shelf though. I can teach my kids about schedules and being on time with my behavior than this book.
Another great math story by Stuart Murphy. This book focuses on scheduling and time! Great book to bring in to the classroom library once children understand time.
