Now Playing: The story of the unsinkable Molly Preston

Gone were the glasses, braces and baby fat. Molly Preston had changed heaps since the days they kept company in high school. Since Des O'Donnell had betrayed her. Now, of all the men on the charity auction block, she'd taken the upper hand and secretly bid on him.

His Big Scene: Convincing her that with him she was in good company

Seemed Molly had past wrongs she wanted to right. And she believed having big-man-on-campus Des O'Donnell as her reunion escort would send a statement. But Des owed her more. So he fibbed a little...and introduced her as his fiancee!

I think this is a very strange story. The intentions are good, it's about a shallow teenager who grows up to be a better man and gets a second chance with a girl he hurt who has grown up to be a swan.

Sounds like a compelling story, but somehow it's not.

Molly is all over the map. She's divorced yet is written like a neurotic ingenue. I understand she was the geek to his popular jock but even then, she's had enough life experience to be able to at least present more self assured than she might feel.

Her reasons for bidding on him seemed ludicrous, I personally wished she had a hot friend she took and met up with him there and the Des, the hero, had to work harder to get her. I also don't understand the fiance business, because it's not real and the repercussions when it ended would make her look worse.

Des's lack of trust about her motivations made even less sense. Buddy, you're the one who done her wrong and you got your instant karma so now you're going to put the baggage on *your* victim?

It doesn't make any sense.

Neither of their motivations rang credible to me.

I felt Des's attraction to her was shallow, he didn't even know who she was at first. I'd have felt a lot better if I felt he really felt remorse and care for what he did in high school but I didn't.

Molly just seemed silly.

There is an interesting story to be told around this situation, sadly I thought this really missed the boat and didn't bring the emotional punch I thought it should have.

4 Stars! ~ Des was a dream in highschool. Every girl wanted him. And he used to take plain jane frumpy Molly out. But she found out that her father had been paying Des to do that. Now years later, Molly's no longer plain jane and frumpy and she needs a date to her highschool reunion. So she has her best friend Abby buy him for her at the Charity Auction. Des has always felt bad about taking money to date Molly. He'd had his reasons, and now he hoped he had a second chance with Molly.

Another great read!
