Possibly the most endearing and precious character ever written. It is impossible not to be charmed by Anne of Green Gables. Seeing childhood through her vibrant imagination and unrelenting optimism and watching her diligence to be “good” prevail despite all of the ways she inevitably messes up is so sweet and honest. I can’t wait to re-read this with my girls someday!

While some books pass through our lives like fleeting guests, there are equally other books that take root in our hearts — quiet the companions that we return to when the seasons change. Anne of Green Gables is, for me, one of those rare and timeless treasures. Each October, as autumn paints the world in amber, crimson, and gold, I find myself returning once more to Avonlea, to walk beneath the maples with Anne Shirley — that wonderfully imaginative, fiercely spirited girl who turned the simplest moments into poetry, who finds a scope for imagination in every aspect of her life.

L. M. Montgomery’s prose feels like a warm breeze from another time, vividly tender, whimsical, and deeply human. With each reread, I find new layers in Anne’s world — her longing for belonging, her radiant optimism, and her unshakable belief that life, despite its mistakes and sorrows, is “so full of things to be thankful for.” A story that never grows old as it reflects the dormant part of us that still believes in wonder.

Watching the Netflix adaptation, Anne with an E, makes my affection grow for this beloved classic. The series captured the spirit of the novel — its emotional honesty, its quiet defiance, and its celebration of individuality — while giving Anne’s voice a fresh modern resonance.

Every autumn, as the first leaves fall, I return to Green Gables and am reminded once again that the truest kind of beauty lies not in perfection but in imagination, courage, and kindness. Some books we finish; others, we simply keep living with. Anne of Green Gables is one I can never get enough of.

Well, it took me a while to get into this but wow, by the end it was worth it!

i’ve read this before as a kid and have watched all the movies, but now there are so many different things i noticed reading it as an adult.

i love marilla! the way that she grows throughout the book and how she always wants to tell anne how much she loves her and how fond she is of her, but it isn’t until the last couple chapters where she finally does. and it meant so much to finally hear her say that.

anyways, anne is full of so much life and “big words” and seeing how she goes from a little girl who is fascinated by even the little things, to almost an adult and still fascinated but she has grown more kind and gentle.

I have always loved Anne of Green Gables; the movies were especially endearing to me growing up. Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to read the first of Anne’s stories by L.M. Montgomery!

AOGG was such a classic, comforting, and beautifully written read. I appreciate how striking so many of its sentiments are; truth is worded in ways that make you want to highlight throughout. I definitely intend to read the other works in this series. Anne continues to feels like my own version of a “kindred spirit”… and for a lot more than just our shared red hair. 🩵

I read the "Puffin in Bloom" version, which has a really pretty cover. Read this as a teen, again in my 20s, then now (plus also listened to the Audible read, read by Rachel McAdams). Such a special, treasured, heart-warming story. I just got back from a visit to Prince Edward Island, where a small group of us had all read the book, walked in Anne's (Lucy Maud's) footsteps, visited the Lake of Shining Waters and the Haunted Woods. Love everything about this book. Would read gain and again.

It is my goal to own all of the Puffin in Bloom books. They are so pretty! But I want to read the books I own too. So this is the first one I have read!

Anne is an orphan who is accidentally sent to a family. But they decided to keep her. This book tells the story of Anne’s life. She is quirky and a little odd.

This book will always be a life long favorite! After reading it as a child, I would’ve been honored if someone called me Carrots, as that meant I would be like Anne Shirley. I love the imagination and the way the author depicts comedy and the sincere struggles of growing up. I love the contrast of Anne being in “the depths of despair” one moment and quickly swinging to jubilant excitement the next. Re-reading it as an adult, I’d forgotten how many beautiful quotes were thought the book! Will happily be on my way to watch to watch the 1985 film again.
