勒俄特依:彝族古典长诗
《勒俄特依》是彝族创世史诗。流传于四川省凉山彝族地区。“勒俄特依”系彝语音译﹐意为“传说历史书”。 《勒俄特依》包括天地演变史、开天辟地、阿俄署布、呼日唤月、支格阿龙、石尔俄特、洪水漫天地、合侯赛变等十几个部分。它以朴素的唯物主义观点和丰富的想象叙述了宇宙的变化、万物的生长、人类的起源、彝族的迁徙等等，其中也反映了彝族人民在原始社会和奴隶社会初期的一些情景。史诗前一部分塑造了天神恩体谷兹和支格阿龙等艺术形像﹐描述了他们在创造天地万物中的神奇功绩﹐想象奇特。后一部分幻想成分较少﹐更接近於现实生活﹐记叙了彝族先民进入凉山的迁徙路线和家支间的争讼，曲折形象地反映了彝族先民对大自然及其变化规律的探索和认识。

Definitely not for everyone. Too much of this book is made up of a collection of genealogies and migration places full of Yi names that are meaningless to the average reader. I don't even know if they would mean anything to a reader from the Yi people of Liangshan.
But in between, there are some jewels, such as the transformations in the battle of wits between Hou and He families before they made peace and settled on opposite banks of the river.
合变成红叶，
侯变成铁块，
铁块沉入河底去，
红叶浮在水面上，
合得胜二次。
He transformed into a red leaf
Hou transformed into a scrap of iron
The scrap of iron sunk to the river's bottom
The red leaf floated atop the water's surface
He won for a second round.
