Acclaimed gay comic strip, the Leonard & Larry characters first appeared in a 1984 issue of Gay Comix, then were later featured in The Advocate and Frontiers magazines.
Barela's art is apt, it's fun too look at but there's nothing too spectacular about it. Instead the focus is placed firmly on the story and dialogue, which (luckily) is really great. Barela airs out his frustrations with 80's/90's homophobia while also depicting an idealized world where Leonard and Larry can live and love together without fearing for their lives. The charm is in how normal everything is, it's a dream fantasy about how life could be if queer people weren't in constant danger. And, it's funny more than a few times.
