We joyously received your message that you have found three of the four lost royal siblings of Pacifica. But I understand the eldest, the beautiful Thalassa, is still missing. We pray you find her and convince her to rule by your side. You say you desire a marriage of convenience only--for the sake of restoring peace to our troubled land. I know, Loucan, my dearest friend and king, you will try to bend her to your iron will if she refuses. But don't close your stubborn, wounded heart. As I recall, Lass is a gentle soul. Treat her kindly, and she'll be yours--body and soul--for the taking.

Carmichael.
This is the last book in the Tales of the Sea tetralogy following the last and oldest of the mer siblings Thalasssa. PI Kevin has exhausted every lead and tells the arrogant Loucan if he wants to find Thalassa he'd have to do it himself using his memories.
Loucan finds her with ridiculous ease - the way this bit is written is a tad weird - we get their second meeting first which refers to how he found her then an actual flashback to the scene which I thought was a bit unnecessary, luckily its the only narrative jump like this.
Rest of the story's OK Loucan convinces Lass to marry him for political reasons they have a nine day honeymoon and then suddenly he completely backs off and he only realises he loves her when she's in mortal danger. Its a little on the rushed side.
What I do really like is the mer civil war story and the underwater scenes. Also like that this is a mermaid/merman romance rather than the far more common mer/human plots.
This is easily the best of the four books, ties the series up nicely and has plenty of mermaid scenes. It is a bit rushed but I rather enjoyed this one, and Lass was certainly the most interesting and spirited of the 4 heroines.
