Among the Immortals is a fast-paced thriller rooted in the Faustian dangers of literary ambition. Set in San Francisco - with poets both living and undead - author Paul Lake weaves an ingenious story rich with brilliant minds, rare manuscripts, poetics, sexual tension, and vampirism.
So this may sound stupid, but when I woke up at 7.00 am today, I found a big spider in my bathroom, and I instantly thought of it as Percy Shelly aka Julian Ginnotti. I was like, What is Shelly doing here? Mind you, I had finished the book at 3.00 am the previous night. It was really fresh in my mind, the book and its overall effect. That was creepy for me. I let it roam around a little until I Killed it.
Anyways, the book is a masterpiece for all classic and thriller lovers. Though by the end of it the climax gets a little predictable yet confusing. I simply loved the speech given to Derek by his friend in the cafeteria. It showed the exact status of poetry worldwide. I personally don't like poetry but this one was a very interesting read.
