WHO WANTS TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE by USA TODAY Bestselling Author Nicola Marsh is a January 2012 release from Harlequin Romance. Rory Devlin was just getting his family business back on track after it nose-dived with his irresponsible father at the helm.
HE didn’t need or want any negative publicity yet here was another of a fanatical environmentalist, chained to the display of his latest project.
It was obvious she wanted something- he’d never give as he didn’t take kindly to blackmail.
Gemma Shultz was the best in her field. She was a marine environmental scientist, headhunted the world over. Yet when she heard about her family coastal land sold without her knowledge, she came back to Melbourne to try and minimize the environment damage which will be caused by development of the land. Rory’s company built huge mansions for rich people and Gemma wanted to ensure that all development work was under her guidance to minimize the risks to her beloved land.
She did manage to convince Rory to take her on, but her dedication is sidetracked by her attraction to Rory!
Rory had never before met a woman as unique as Gemma and he is captivated by her yet isn’t he using her as a public face for his company for positive publicity?
Gemma didn’t take kindly to being used for publicity stunts. Would she forgive Rory?
The growth and progression of love among the Rory and Gemma is subtle and naturally depicted.
Nicola Marsh’s mastery of the subtleties of relationships is amazing to read. This story comes to life and at the end we are left with lot of surprises. It is a romance packed with sizzle and sexual tension adding to the page turning quality of a book!
Good book. I really liked Gemma's passion for her cause, and the way she went about getting Rory's attention. I liked Rory too. He was pretty ticked off at the beginning, but ended up being willing to be convinced. He had his issues, being focused on the business first, but was able to change as he went along. I really liked his reactions while snorkeling, and the camping scene was priceless. Gemma also had family issues with her mother, but they were eventually able to work that out also
From the very beginning this story pulls you in! Gemma shakes Rory's world the first time they meet- Gemma has chained herself to Rory's display at a very important presentation. It's an "opposites attract" romance, and Gemma and Rory discover they have more in common than they originally thought.
I liked how Gemma was portrayed as strong and independent, with a well-established career in science, and while her family Iife isn't perfect (her father has passed away and her relationship with her mom is rocky), Gemma doesn't lie around simpering waiting for a man to rescue her. She has plans and dreams and she gets stuff done.
Favorite scenes: When Rory and Gemma swim with dolphins in chapter 18 and in chapter 21 when they meet at a café and Rory tells Gemma how he feels about her.
Favorite line: "Who wants to marry a boorish workaholic who spends his life worrying about his business, using the people he loves for it, and can't see the best thing that ever happened to him even when she chains herself to whatever's handy to grab his attention?" (Chapter 28)
Many thanks to the author, Nicola Marsh, for my copy; all opinions are my own, etc.
Solid Tomboy Romance. And because it *is* a romance... yes, a wedding is mentioned late in the book, and because this is set in Australia it is a "spring" wedding... in October. Which feels weird to this reader who has never been South of the Equator - nor even within 1,000 miles of it. :D Otherwise a fun take on the tomboy / enemies to lovers idea where he is a corporate tycoon out to build mansions on the property that meant so much to her as a kid but which her mother recently sold off. This is something I personally identified with a bit, having grown up with a small 3 acre lake outside of Atlanta being owned by my grandfather's family before my mother's cousins sold it off in my early 20s after both my grandfather and his twin brother died. So seeing Gemma be able to fight to save any piece of "her spot" was pretty awesome for me. Overall a fun book and on the quick/ short side at right around 200 pages, this one is a solid introduction to Marsh's romance books for those who are new to her while also being a satisfying one for long time fans. Very much recommended.
Nicola Marsh has written a page turner. She has described scenery beautifully and a wonderful cast of characters. Both Gemma and Rory have had uncertain lives and have a hard time socializing. They meet when Gemma, a marine scientist wants to save Portsea beach that Rory plans to build mansions on. Both are very protective of their work. Beginning to work together, they still do not completely trust each other. Even when they begin to love each other, they don’t have complete trust. I think the main thing that brought them together is the day Gemma introduced Rory to her marine friends. They did take a camping trip that turned out to have some occurrences that were pretty funny. I do want to recommend this very interesting read that I had trouble setting down.
Good read :) Finally, a hero that is actually a decent guy, and a lady that is independent, confident, and great at her job. Nice twist with the parent story. HEA
