And because of who she is, she distrusts everything Pack. Good book, like that's you really don't need to read the other ones in this series about the Protectors. I find the whole thing at the end a bit cult like that just no. #Coyer

Quick read. Liked that there was a twist at the end with the mother & sister (although somewhat disappointed at their choices). Minimal character build-up; guess that’s what happens with quick reads. 😳

Setting: animal rescue ranch in Wyoming and hotel then cultish homestead in Texas

Theme:
Love, deception, brainwashing, superiority,

Character:
Tearlach (special kind of shifter, with extra power, strong belief in marrying their own kind ), Mo Anam Cara (We are one of the Tearlach original language, bonds mates irrevocably – and if one dies, the other will also), Pack (regular shifters), Protectors (police of the pack)

Kelly McKenzie – A Tearlach, at 16 when father killed, she and her family were split up for their safety – she was shuffled to different foster homes, not allowed to make attachments, no one to share true identity with… she grew up, became a vet, and rescues dogs – has her own pack of 7 dogs to keep her company. Protectors have located her (small story in a local newspaper), and have approached her about joining them – she blames them for her father’s death.

Mac Lamonda – Pack Protector. He married Maggie, a Tearlach & Kelly’s cousin… and Maggie minimized her Tearlachness, laughing at some of the traditions, not sharing the bonding words with him, but by being with him, she was banished from the clan. She did not share the bonding words with him (probably because she feared retribution, and that she would be killed and did not want him to die also, and leave their children parentless). After Maggie’s death, before the funeral,, the Tearlach’s kidnapped his 18 month twins… and he wants them back.

Maggie, Isobel and Caleb – Mac’s dead wife, and his twins – now 3 years old.

Bonnie / Rose McKenzie – Kelly’s sister and mother – she hasn’t seen them in 13 years.

Ian / Danny McKenzie – Kelly’s cousin and uncle. Uncle Danny is the one who said the Protector’s killed Kelly’s dad and he’s the one to decide to split them all up. When some of the breeding aged women are missing, he calls for all Tearlach’s to meet up in Texas.

Summary:
Barebones plot – Mac takes assignment to protect Kelly – but he fully plans to use her to find his children… when he gets to her home, she fights him, until a bullet through the window puts them in us against them, and Mac is hurt… the bad guys start a fire, she gets her dogs and Mac out… and she and Mac are going to challenge those against them, and she offers him the words of bonding – as an extra measure to insure his safety and really because though she is frightened by him and what he represents, part of her is attracted to him and knows he is the one for her.

They chase of the vampires who were apparently sent to kidnap Kelly… and then reluctantly Kelly accepts him as a partner as she heads out to rescue her sister… they shift plans and go to Texas when Danny calls for a meeting… She sees her mother for the first time in 13 years, as well as other relatives, but it feels a bit off… she and Mac go back to her room and make love, completing the ceremonial words… At the assembly, it becomes apparent that Ian and Danny have gone over the edge – they have the women, they want to insure purity of blood lines… and they want to punish Kelly for taking a non-Tearlach mate… there is some uproar and they slip out the back…

Ian keeps calling, offering to trade Mac’s children for Kelly – and realizing it is a trap, she finally allows him to call in the Protectors to aid them… they raid the ranch… her mother betrays her (she and her sister have bought into the purity thing)… they find Mac’s children, who are reluctant to go to him at first, until Kelly sings in the Tearlach native tongue, calming them. Ahhh

There is a bit of soul searching for Kelly and especially mac as they work through their feelings – and where she fits in after the loss of his wife – but he realizes he loves her differently, but just as deeply.

Holes – what about the vampires? Are the women stupid to stay on the ranch, having cousins’ babies, and sharing the men? What are the Tearlach special powers – I only saw 2, the bonding and healing enhancement and her smoother, quicker shift to wolf (so what’s the big deal about staying pure?), they didn’t have cash, then they did have cash. Why did she offer him the bonding in the first place? There was only 10 minutes of animosity and underlying attraction between them until she offered him the words.

Wolf Whisperer was an action packed read full of adventure, mystery and forbidden romance. After the death of his wife, Pack Protector Mac had his children taken from him. Shifter Kelly has been in forced isolation for years, but when her kind start disappearing, she must go looking for answers...and Mac must join her.

Initially both distrust the other, but after Kelly binds them together to save Mac’s life, neither will be the same.

Mac thought he could never love anyone else after his wife, but Kelly awakens feelings inside him that have been dormant for a long time. Kelly begins to trust Mac and realise that not only can he help find her missing kin, but he can also find her.

Wolf Whisperer flew by. It was a pleasurable read that takes little effort. I felt the story was little repetitive, like I’d read the same paranormal romance a few times before, but the characters kept it fresh and enjoyable. Whilst being a fairly saucy read, the descriptive scenes were kept to a minimum. The mystery element, even though it was predictable, was still entertaining. The book’s best feature was watching Mac and Kelly fall for each other and work through the obstacles in their path.

In Whiddon's paranormal romance novel, Mac Lamonda was a pack protector who only wanted to find his missing children. When a beautiful shifter saves his life and bonds with him, Mac enters into a union that is both seductive and dangerous. Kelly Mackenzie's life calling is the rehabiliation of abused canines and she distrusts everything that is Pack. When the handsome protector's arrival coincides with news of her sister's kidnapping, Kelly is torn between suspicion and attraction. But together, they will fight and if they fail, those they love will become the victims of a horrendous evil. Excellent addition to The Pack series.

Good god.
First of all, who the hell edits these things? Someone needs to go back to school and learn English grammar. Some of the mistakes and just, awfulness, was astounding to find in a published novel. Had to read this for a subject at uni, and I'll be honest, it's not even the worst one of the prescribed list.
Found the sex scene and the tension in general to work quite well, but I just wasn't interested to find out what was going to happen in the end with all the family disappearances etc.
I didn't entirely hate it - there were SOME redeeming qualities - but it was one of the most poorly-written things I've ever come across.

This is the first Harlequin that I've read and while I enjoyed it for the most part I was a little bored with the repetitiveness of some parts; namely in the beginning when Mac was trying to get information out of Kelly. As for the romance it was there you could say but I also felt that was a little lacking. The characters were described well and I enjoyed the plot. I was able to read this book in one setting not putting it down so it wasn’t bad.

I loved this book, its everything I want in a book when I read one. It had two main charachters Mac and Kelly and they made a great team. It had a mystery that had to be solved and it had love and romance and my favorite shapeshifters. I finished this book a few days ago and now I hope there will be more like this one or hope its a series.

Really liked this installment to the Wolf Pack series. I loved how the story kept moving at a quick pace. The story was good enough to keep me glued to my reading corner. Whidden has not disappointed.
