Sometimes a wolf has to do what a wolf has to do. Stalking his mate, taking her captive until she remembers him... if it works, he'll have his mate back. If it doesn't, he's dead. Even worse, Evangeline will probably hate him forever.
Maddox is desperate enough to take those odds.

New author for me but I do not enjoy her writing style.
Not the type of shifter story I enjoy with its way too over the top plot. It is like the author was trying to stuff every plot point in together.
I’m not sure if this is supposed to be dry humour or what but I soon became bored with the stalker behavior of the hero. Why couldn’t he just introduce himself?
Then as things unravel further, wow, talk about deceit on a major scale.
Then I got very annoyed with all the forgiveness given.
I can never understand how someone, the heroine Evangeline in this case, can forgive so easily.
Her mother lied to her constantly and tried to set her up with another man, her wanna be boyfriend, not the hero, knew about her mate/husband and was actually one of his jailors.
Then we get the other woman drama and wasn’t that OTT. And she is still around.
The hero, Maddox was a bit unlikeable due to being always angry and volatile. He had reason to be at certain points but it was constant.

If you like EXTREME Alpha male shifters and soft amnesia-addled women, you might like this book.
Pros - A good introduction to the series, defining a new world. Several strong characters (all male), clearly future alpha males romances in this series. A good set-up for the ongoing plot to the series. All the males have some dark to them, not just white-hat heroes.
Cons - The "courtship" crosses the line into hive-inducing level of woman-in-danger. The "fated mates" card is played HARD here. Too Hard. All the men are a-holes ... in the same way - jerks to each other, overly possessive to their "fated mates".
Overall comments about the series - did not like the first two books of the series - I did like books 3 and 4.

Boring...too much info dumped...also needs editing a lot ...the author is telling ,not showing and it’s full of banal common boring dialogues...same cliches ,nothing original...too bad I was looking forward to read this...but couldn’t finish it...

This was my first time reading this author and her book was awesome! Maddox and Angie are hot and steamy together. Maddox is an alpha male wanting to reclaim his mate who had a accident and he believes is dead. She only remembers parts of her life, the before and after Maddox. Their characters are interesting and entertaining and kept me engrossed through the entire book. You'll have to grab the book to see how everything turns out. It's and amazing story with drama, mystery, suspense, laughter and romance. I look forward to reading more in this series, I can't wait!

November 6, 2019DNF 16% It took two freaking chapters of exposition and info dumps to get to the inciting incident behind the reason for the book. I tried to get to the bit where something other than chapter of info dumping happened, but I grew frustrated.

The book was okay, I wished they spent more time with her getting her memories back and it felt rushed and random and really sudden. Otherwise the book was very enjoyable.

I had a difficult time putting this book down. This book is full of action. If you are looking for so a good weekend read, read this book. You will not regret choosing this book. I would highly recommend reading mates first, as it does a good job to set the scene for this book. After reading the epilogue I cannot wait to for the next book in the series to come out! The author needs to announce the next pre order.

Lacking
Found this book story frustrating and skimmed at times. The H, Maddox, lost his mate, so he thought. He finds out the h, Evangeline, is not dead. The law related to bonded mates can’t help since his bond with the h is broken and has not been “registered” beforehand. He tracks down his mate, who has memory loss for the past year or so, which is all the time that she’s known him, so memory loss that spans back to include even meeting him.
It is talked about how the bond has not been registered, but they went to a courthouse, and gotten married, which would be on record, but do you think he ever goes to pull that marriage license? And why wouldn’t that be on record when he went to the para department that keeps track of bonding certificates? They’re not the only human/para mating and can’t be the only ones that got married along with becoming bonded. That makes zero sense.
He sends Colt to visit a witch to find out if they can remove the bond severing that was done by another witch, and to find out if there is other magic involved, since his mate has no scent whatsoever, and Colt only asks about the bond, he was supposed to be getting a witch to come for that, AND for finding out what other magic might be in play, but do you think that is even anywhere in the narrative? And Colt has suspicions he doesn’t tell Maddox?! Seriously?!
Maddox gets to the cabin after spiriting has mate away, and then says let’s talk about it in the morning? You just kidnapped her, what? That was totally stupid. It made no sense, along with the fact that he didn’t have a copy of their marriage certificate.
Evangeline knows she has memory loss. Why is she written to be such an idiot in the things she says? I get she’s been kidnapped, but let’s be real, she’s not going to dismiss someone telling her he knows her, shows knowing her, even if she was kidnapped. She kept repeating she didn’t know him, KNOWING she has memory loss and she talks like she doesn’t.
The witch visits Evangeline in her dreams, and sounds so delusional, yet Evangeline wakes up and remembers it, and thinks she is not going to tell Maddox because what if the witch was right and he was mistaken about her being his mate? Is she stupid, or is she stupid? Earlier she claims to know how wolves think of their mates, so why would she think this? It’s just dumb. Can we get a smart, intelligent, non-idiot acting h? Not in this book.
He drugged her the first time, okay made sense, though wrong for him to have done. The second? Why? The was no reason.
The h sneaks out behind the H, she doesn’t leave as she hears her “boyfriend” talking about the hiding her scent, but she doesn’t hear everything else he was yelling? He yelled out how the h and H were mates! That he hid her scent for that reason, so H wouldn’t be able to scent and find her, yet she doesn’t hear him?
Why would she think that Adam loved her? He KNEW she was mate to Maddox and INTENTIONALLY kept it from her then pursued her. That should have been an immediate telling him she never wanted to see him or have any contact with him again, not excuse his behaviors as because he loved her and people do stupid things when they love someone. What he did was from obsession, selfish and self-centered. She should not care why he did it, telling him he showed that he didn’t really care about her with what he did and his deliberate deceptions. Maddox was an arse for his deception as well and the things he did, he doesn’t get a pass, but his was not on Adam’s level.
Pricilla drama is overdone and unnecessary cliché drama. There are dire consequences for messing with a bonded mate in the para community. Yes crazy wouldn’t care, but still. And the whole talking to the threat person and broadcast how he’s coming for her so she has plenty of time to do something and get away - major eye roll cliché ridiculousness.
There’s no pack interaction, no interaction with his parents, no confrontation be Evangeline with Adam or her mother, we just get told about both, both of which is super tame given how they lied and deceived her for three years.

I admit I have a weakness for second chance romance storylines, and if they involve amnesia, even better. I enjoyed the world building, and was intrigued by the plot. I thought the pacing was a little off, and I had trouble connecting emotionally with the characters. I did enjoy reading this book though.
Three years ago Maddox Wolfe’s mate/wife died in a car accident on their wedding day. Wolf shifters who lose their mates are considered too dangerous to be left free, so Maddox voluntarily went to prison. Then his brother Colton shows up at the jail and tells him that Evangeline is still alive. It turns out after the accident she lost all of her memories of the previous year. She has dreams of a man with golden eyes, but she has no memory of Maddox or their relationship.
Maddox is released from prison and goes searching for his wife. Since they weren’t officially registered as a mated pair no one will tell him where she is, but of course he does eventually find her. He doesn’t want to scare Evangeline by telling her the truth so he decides to try convincing her to date him again. She’s actually already dating someone else which freaks Maddox out so badly he kidnaps her in the hopes that he can somehow resurrect their bond and bring back her memories.
What I like about amnesia storylines is that you get to see a couple with history get to know each other and fall in love again. I was curious to see how the mate bond would play into that, how it had impacted Evangeline’s life since the accident. The romantic in me loved that she felt like something was missing, and that she kept dreaming about him. I also thought it was an interesting twist to add in the other man. For anyone who is sensitive about that kind of thing she never even kisses him, and she always feels like the relationship is wrong. It’s just a complication that makes things more challenging for Maddox. I like that he has to work to win her back.
As much as I liked the idea, the plot didn’t exactly work for me. It moved along in fits and starts. Maddox finds out Evangeline is alive, then it takes a month for him to get out of jail. Once he finds her he comes up with a plan to get her back, implements it for a day or two, then immediately changes his mind and decides to try something else. He does this over and over again in the book. I would have been happy if he’d stuck with the initial plan to try to date her again, but instead he decides right away to kidnap her instead. I understand he was worried about her boyfriend, but kidnapping a woman doesn’t seem like a good way to earn her trust.
Maddox is so busy plotting and trying new things that there aren’t very many quiet moments where these two spend time getting to know each other again. I found it difficult to connect with them and buy into their romance as a result. I admit I didn’t read the prequel, and while I didn’t feel like I missed anything major as far as the plot, maybe I would have been more invested in these characters and their love story if I had. It didn’t help that they’re fated mates. It also didn’t help that the resolution of the amnesia storyline was very anticlimactic. Then suddenly we do a 180 and rush into a confrontation with a villain. I have to give credit for the fact that I didn’t guess the ending. I thought I knew where the story was going and it managed to surprise me.
I really liked the idea of this story, and I enjoyed reading it. I just didn’t get the angst and emotion I was expecting.

Maddox & Evangeline
A fairly light read after my last series, but the characters were engaging and the world building is interesting. Looks to be a couple per book, but with a building plotline.
Open universe where Paranormals known as Paras — shifters, witches, and two flavors of vampires — are bound by legislation known as the Claws Clause which governs mating. Mates are a fated thing, and at least among shifters, the guys can only get it up for their mate. So when a Para loses his mate, they are at their most unstable. And the Claws Clause states they are either magicked by a witch to dissolved the bond, incarcerated, or killed.
Maddox — an alpha wolf, and second in his pack — has been locked up for three years after his mate “died” in a traffic accident. When Maddox regained conscious after the accident, the ambulance had already taken Evangeline, and the mate bond “felt” severed, so he took everyone at their word that his mate had died.
Only now, three years later, his brother Colton assures him that his Evangeline still lives. Colton caught her scent in a random minimart.
Evangeline was seriously injured in the accident, leaving her with crippling migraines and a huge year long hole in her memory. After recuperating with her over-protective parents, she has finally ventured out on her own again, with a new home in a human centric town, a new job she can do remotely, and a new boyfriend that her mother set her up with. And no idea she has a wolf mate out there.
So basically the story is Maddox getting out of prison, finding his mate, and trying to restore the bond between them. Book two is focused on Maddox’s younger brother Colton. Since both brothers and their father are all wolves — their father is the pack alpha — it looks like their condition is something they are born with (as opposed to being bitten).
P.S. Totally humming Duran Duran with that title.

When Maddox regained conscious after the accident, the ambulance had already taken Evangeline, and the mate bond “felt” severed, so he took everyone at their word that his mate had died.
Only now, three years later, his brother Colton assures him that his Evangeline still lives. Colton caught her scent in a random minimart.
Evangeline was seriously injured in the accident, leaving her with crippling migraines and a huge year long hole in her memory. After recuperating with her over-protective parents, she has finally ventured out on her own again, with a new home in a human centric town, a new job she can do remotely, and a new boyfriend that her mother set her up with. And no idea she has a wolf mate out there.
So basically the story is Maddox getting out of prison, finding his mate, and trying to restore the bond between them. Book two is focused on Maddox’s younger brother Colton. Since both brothers and their father are all wolves — their father is the pack alpha — it looks like their condition is something they are born with (as opposed to being bitten).
P.S. Totally humming Duran Duran with that title.

Hmmm.

An okay read, I think. Angie/Eva/Evangeline/Ang and Maddox and their story was kind of sad but cute. It really sucks that the people around Evangeline didn't support her relationship with Maddox and they lost time. Adam especially seems to have a hatred for paranormals but I don't think it was explained in this book. Throw in crazy witch Cilia and Eva and Maddox have another person to deal with interrupting their lives, and it's not for the better. It was shocking just how delusional Cilia was, especially being a part herself and not having any kind of relationship with Maddox outside of a friendship. That she was willing to go to such lengths, causing the accident that initially separated Angie and Maddox, taking over Eva's memories, erasing memories, kidnapping, and plotting for 15 years just seemed really overdone.
The things about this book that frustrated me and lead to a lower rating were several. At times when the character perspective changes, it's hard to tell whose head I'm in at the switch. Colt is sprinkled throughout the book so much, I was confused at first if he was the main character and then wondered if perhaps it'd be a twofer book and we'd get both brothers. In the end, I'm not sure why he was in the book so much. Another thing that really didn't quite connect was the pack that we're told about as readers but there's no interaction with the pack other than an honorable mention here and there. That they belong to a pack with their father at the head, seems like Maddox and Colt would have access to more resources than we see in the book. Maddox is supposed to be next in line and had been caged for years but there was no happy family reunion which I would have expected. There was tons of descriptive and explanatory writing not broken up by dialogue or action, pages of it.
I'm curious to know what happens with Colt and Shea. We got so much Colt in this one, I feel like I'm obligated to read his story to find out.

This book was an odd one... Like there are serious red flags here but I'm cool with it. I suppose in book 1, we're only just introduced to the whole "world" the story is set in, so us readers aren't accustomed to the society... Anyway, let me get my thoughts out.
The whole idea of MMC's mate forgetting about the bond was great - it opens a whole lot of possibilities to where the plot could lead. It makes the reader wonder why FMC is avoiding MMC, or what exactly happened.
Not to mention the world that the plot is set in - it's one of the more detailed ones. There's a backstory of how paranormals entered the "light" of the world, laws applying to paranormals and override the other laws in some cases, "Cages" that are prisons / rehabilitation for paras, etc. It's surprisingly detailed and well written.
To be honest, there are only a few things I found a bit iffy in this book. First of all, who the hell thinks kidnapping a girl is a good idea? I understand that MMC is desperate, but there are so many better ways to approach the situation. FMC doesn't remember who he is, so she assumes he's a creep who knows everything about her and wanted to force a bond. A fair assessment. And I totally get that she feels a bond of sorts, but deciding to sleep with him less than a week after he kindaps her... big yikes. It totally worked with the memory issue, but it is a decision I find unrealistic.
The second issue I had was Priscilla. Who on earth is she even? We're told she's a childhood friend of MMC and is totally in love with him, but everything is just thrown at us. We aren't given context or anything to work with, unless I'm missing something? And she just disappears at the end of the book - but why? It seems utterly random to me, but maybe book 2 will give more information.

I didn't feel it
There was supposed to be this great chemistry, but I just didn't feel it. Instead I was irked by the female lead's instantaneous switch from wanting to get away from him and repeatedly telling him and believing she wasn't his mate, to deciding to climb into bed with him and have sex as a "cure." There just wasn't enough plot development or "chemistry development" from one behavior to the switch to the next -- just a lot of him TELLING her he meant something to her (which doesn't work for me because you can't TELL someone THEY love YOU), instead of situations in which he did something amazing that made me as a reader fall in love with Maddox like we were meant to believe Eva should be. It was like the author got tired of writing about Evangeline fighting him and just decided to have her main female character give in. The explanation of female leads memories coming back after the assassination attempt was reasonable, but it wasn't satisfying.
I really needed there to be some reason like her memories returning or some climactic situation that served as a turning point for her to suddenly capitulate, and there just wasn't any reason as far as I was concerned. All of the climactic action happened AFTER she capitulated not before which was backwards to me. Los libros sobre seres sobrenaturales, especialmente hombres lobo tienen a ser un tipo de placer culposo para mí, pero a decir verdad nunca espero mucho de los mismos y este es el caso de Hungry like a Wolf.
Este es un libro que tiene un buen inicio, que aunque se puede sentir largo y lento, si logra meterte en la historia y mantenerte entretenido, pero esto hasta más o menos el 40% del mismo, a partir de allí la historia se estanca y la verdad se vuelve más de lo mismo. Una trama genérica que plantea un "problema" que aunque podría arreglarse rápido o tomar otro camino que lo haga más diferente, siempre se va por el mismo que ya conoces y hace que la historia de vuelva difícil de terminar, porque a ese punto donde la historia simplemente no avanza pasa una de dos cosas, o dejar de leer o te spoileas todo lo que queda para ver si vale la pena seguir leyendo, y en mi caso fue la segunda.
Así que con la trama, pues empieza fuerte y cae volviéndose más de lo mismo, haciendo que terminar el libro sea difícil.
Ahora, eso no le quita que las leyes del mundo presentado sean diferentes e interesantes. También la autora logra crear intriga con respecto a los personajes secundarios lo cual puede hacerte querer leer el segundo libro, aunque no esperes más que este.
En general creo que Hungry like a Wolf es un libro de más de lo mismo, que puede que sí te gusta leer sobre hombres lobos pases un buen rato y le quieras dar una oportunidad, pero definitivamente no es un libro para todo el mundo y uno que se puede dejar a medias muy fácilmente.

Entertaining and fun; love the overall premise! Wolf shifter Maddox thinks his mate Evangeline is dead; she isn’t, but she is missing her memories. She doesn’t remember over a year of her life, which includes all her time with Maddox; someone is out to keep them apart. It’s so screwed up what happens to them! I read the short prequel, so I’m already starting the story pissed at certain people for their deception in this book. Not a fan of the 3 years separation, but love that this book gets right into revealing some secrets. Don’t like Maddox’s approach when he finds Evangeline; didn’t he learn from the events in the prequel? Honesty goes a long way, People!Maddox and Evangeline are idiots sometimes, and it can get super annoying. They do have a sweet connection though, and are good fit for each other. What Maddox has to put up with from Evangeline is crazy, but he also doesn’t think things through, so he brings it on himself. Plus, Maddox’s brother, Colt, gives horrible advice! Colt’s book is going to be torture! But, I’m still looking forward to it; I like the premise for Colt’s book minus that his mate is someone that can’t say no to loser people; not looking forward to reading that. Hopefully Colt and his mate catch a clue very early in the book! Overall, I’m enjoying a lot of elements present in this series; love that male wolf shifters are so loyal, and the overall paranormal world has some cool ideas. Excited to continue the series!

I found the book to be strange to read, with moments of being good and then boring. I did not appreciate the spoilers in the book and felt that the plot was easy to predict. I also wished for more clarity on the different points of view used in the book. I found the romantic scene to be normal and forgettable. Also I noted that the female protagonist initially lacks independence, but starts to fight back after experiencing amnesia. However, I felt that the emotional changes in the male protagonist were too fast to keep up with and that his possessive attitude was mentioned but not well conveyed.

I’ve very torn on this book. I love the plot and the whole idea of the book. The pacing was rough. The first 60% dragged on. The last 40% rushed.

👍🏻 MMC kidnaps FMC- I know unpopular opinion. But if I had fallen madly in love with someone, married them, and then had a freak accident causing me to lose all memory of them and the people closest to me betrayed me… I would want my husband to do all he could to help me remember. She chose him already. Everyone else in her life was taking away that choice.

He hid things from you and manipulated you just because he wanted you. To me he has no redemption by the end of the book. Love doesn’t take away your choice. He’s a psychopath.
👎 the pacing. I could have done with a fast forward on a lot in the beginning. I would have liked more on our FMC remembering and deciding she wanted him to claim her. And a lot more on who the f Cila is and was. And a lot more on the fall out with our FMC and Adam and her family.
Anyways overall super interesting story. Could use some heavy editing to make more concise though. Still going to read the next book!

Maddox chose involuntarily incarnation til his brother scented & saw his mate Evangeline alive! He told Maddox & was abt to get out of the case where he was at for 3 yrs.
So it Evangeline & Maddox bonded & got married. He didn’t get a chance to claim her (bite her) since they were on their way to their honeymoon where they had a very bad car accident & she was declare dead (at least that’s what they told Maddox) He felt her discounted which he thought it was because she died but come to find out it was because a witch broke the both of Evangeline’ s side as well as erase all memories when it comes to Maddox & their bond. So what is Maddox to do… he kidnapped her in a attempt to force her to remember him, remember their bond & everything that they mean to each other! I can’t wait to read Colton’s story nxt!

Maddox and Angie are mates but instead of getting their mating license so the government would recognize their union, they got married first and were on their way to their honeymoon when their car crashed. Maddox was told that Angie died and he had no reason to think he'd been lied to. So he spent three years in prison because he wouldn't let the witches take away his memories of his mate. But then his brother spots Angie on the street and she acts like she doesn't recognize him. Angie was hurt really bad in the accident but she didn't die. She had some head trauma and amnesia, she lost an entire year of memories, the entire time she had been with Maddox. Her family wanted to keep her away from Maddox so they made sure he thought she was dead and they figured that would be the end of it.
When Maddox is finally released from confinement, he goes searching for Angie to hopefully get her to remember him but it's a lot harder than he thought it would be. Angie's family and her new boyfriend will do anything to keep them apart but Maddox is determined.
Angie and Maddox have a great love story and a tragic past being kept apart. The things they both endured to finally be brought back together broke my heart. But it has such a good ending.

A good read with a ok story line if you can get past the stalker/kidnapping /drugging that our male lead does and there were times when it was contradictory for example in one sentence we read that they never got the chance to consummate their marriage before the accident and then a few lines down we read that they slept together and despite both being inexperienced virgins she knew exactly how to pleasure him. Not sure why purple was associated with witches with everyone of them having purple eyes a eye color every fantasy creature I read about always has not sure if every author is following ra Salvatore example with drizzt or not but I really wish I could read about a fantasy creature with another eye color also the male lead and his brothers hatred of witches was never fully explained outside of the fact that they disliked that witches worked for the government. The I don't remember but I should remember got a little repetitive and it didn't make sense as to why he would not have shown her the wedding picture and license while explaining who he was and what happened in the beginning, why wait until she discovers it on her own? When its obvious she will not.

Hungry Like a Wolf has intense action and suspense. The characters are endearing, and the toxic manner in which humans treat shifters in the story reeks of prejudice and racism. Maddox and Evangeline are fated, mates. He was lead to believe that she did not survive a crash, and he followed the law and allowed himself to be locked up. Evangeline was betrayed by those she loves the most and kept apart from the one man who loved her more than life itself. Priscilla and Alex both are just selfish and crazy characters who attempt to keep the two apart. This book shows us that true love cannot be broken and is a real phenomenon.
Humans consider the shifter race as less than in society, and that makes me sad. Humans prove to be just as dangerous as shifters. The story reminds us that good and evil exist in all species. How we treat each other is reflective of our humanity.

This writing and editing in this book is fine.
I didn't care for this book. This is what I don't like about amnesia plots. It took forever for the romance to move forward. Evangeline was hesitant, as she should have been. However I hated that they were basically on a deadline for her to remember so they could bond. It took forever, over halfway through the book, despite this very real deadline. I didn't like how this story with Cilla came about conveniently. I didn't like why it wasn't explained why Adam is so hooked on Evangeline. I also don't understand why these two characters would show up and make their motives clear in Colton's book, since his is the next in the series. (Note: The Christmas book Of Mistletoe and Mating is book 1.5 but seems more like a slice of life holiday book.) I honestly think the current ending with Colt would be enough to entice someone to read book 2 rather than leaving it open about Cilla and Adam.

I liked the book, it was a pretty average read for me.
Maddox and Angie are cute but I wish we could’ve had more flashbacks of their relationship from before the car accident. It just felt like something was missing between the two of them. Also, their relationship did a 180 with her trying to run away from him to literally climbing into bed with him the next day. I get that they’re married and have a bond but at that point Angie barley had any memories of Maddox and it just felt rushed.
The plot was interesting, although I wish there would have been a bit more mystery surrounding what was going on with Angie and who was responsible. The author makes it very obvious who the “bad guys” are pretty early on, so no real suspense.
With all that being said I’ll probably continue reading this series since its relatively fast to read and the world building is interesting.
