A NEW ERA DAWNS! In the infinite universe, there exists a planet like no Cybertron! Home to the Transformers, and a thriving hub for inter-stellar commerce, it is a world brimming with organic and constructed diversity. Immense structures line its landscape. Mechanical giants roam across its surface. Starship-sized titans orbit its skies, keeping a constant protective watch above and below. Ancient Transformers merge into its very fabric. Small, mysterious creatures skulk in its shadows. It is a truly amazing realm, long untouched by war, and exuberantly reaching for the stars. This is the Cybertron that Optimus Prime and Megatron vie for in this bold new origin-a world of seemingly endless peace! All that changes when Bumblebee and Windblade take a newly-forged Cybertronian on his first voyage through this world of wonders-they are confronted by the hard reality of the first murder to have occurred on Cybertron in living memory! I was born and brought up in Edinburgh. After studying at Edinburgh and Stirling Universities, and after a good deal of displacement activity (varying from spending three months in the rainforests of Borneo trying to record the dawn chorus of gibbons to briefly working in a tea warehouse / factory), I moved to England to enter the world of full-time employment.

As much by luck as judgement, I had a series of on the whole enjoyable and interesting jobs, mostly based in London. All of them save one have been in the charity sector, and at various times they have involved extensive overseas travel, environmental and community projects, nature conservation and fundraising.

Writing was a big feature of my childhood, and has ebbed and flowed as a spare-time occupation ever since. I sold a couple of short stories in the 1990s, but didn’t really start thinking seriously about writing novels until the 21st Century had got underway.

At the start of 2003, I turned myself into a freelance consultant on environmental projects, partly in order to devote more time to writing; since then, the writing side of things has taken over almost completely.

I am now back in Edinburgh, where I live with my lovely wife, and miss the excitement of London only a little, and only occasionally.

An interesting if somewhat off balance feeling first issue, this was marketed as the beginning of a new continuity and while that is still true in a technical sense, things are already sort of in motion where this book starts us off, with Megatron already leading his movement and being somewhat on the outs with Orion despite not being called Decepticons or being a militant force yet. There's also a young cybertronian who I believe is a new character and I'm pretty sure is probably just here to get killed at some point as a metaphor for the loss of Cybertron's innocence, but he's already on a mission with Bumblebee in this which feels like the beginning of the second act of a character's story to me, not the first. I also found it odd how closely the art sticks to the designs of recent figures in the Transformers Generations toy line for a lot of the characters, it makes a lot of scenes feel kind of stiff and like the bots are all missing a spark. Still, there's some interesting new ideas here being mixed with a lot of classic ones, as seems to be the norm with all new TF cannons these days, so I'll keep going for now. I wouldn't say this is a "put it on your pull now" good first issue though, a few rungs down the latter from it infact.

It has a really basic story. The most interesting part was the Megatron-Prime meeting which had some nice dialogue. Also, the cliffhanger ending of the issue was too clichéd. Overall an average first issue with nice clean art.

Good start to creating a new series, which kicks off a new era. Looking forward to where we are going. It’s nice to get back to the classics

It's a brave "new" world, this Cybertopia of the golden age. When organics live in harmony with Transformers. But I hope the story will be equally good, because out of the two main stories, I preferred Rubble's and not the ascending of Decepticons so much. Where all the main stars have the 5mm holes for the Siege toys' weapons and accessories, now sold in your nearest toy store...

Disappointing, this could have been about anyone, it just has a transformers skin on it.

A new recruit is shown the ropes, whilst being informed of the dangers of war. Meanwhile two leaders are discussing friction between their people.

That’s it, you don’t get anything Transformers. No transforming robots, action it’s just all talk.

My son and I are loving the new Transformers series! He watched Transformers: Rescue Bots on Netflix when he was younger, and now he likes Transformers: Robots in Disguise and Trasformers Prime. However, all of these shows are about their lives once they've landed on Earth. The comic offers more backstory and history. We get to see where they live, how they're created, and what their home planet (Cybertron) looks like. In the movies and television shows there are so few of them left, but in this comic we see how vast their world and population used to be.

Optimus isn't a Prime yet, he's Orion Pax. There hasn't been a war, so Megatron is just like everyone else, and there are no Decepticons. Orion Pax tries to keep the peace and balance what's already there, while Megatron encourages them to do more as a race. He wants them to be more. Bumblebee still has a voice, and there are a lot of other familiar characters as well. I think the story and the illustrations have been fantastic so far, and I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here. It's so nice to be starting from the very beginning!
