A helpful, clear, and thorough introduction to anthropological approaches to ancient Israel. McNutt pairs chapters reviewing current scholarship on Israelite and Judean social systems with chapters exploring the possibilities and limitations of applying anthropological methods. The book covers Iron I to the late Persian period, and pays particular attention to issues of religion, economics, and gender.
