Sacraments as God's Self Giving

Rate this book
A comprehensive look at the sacraments in today's mainline Protestant churches. This volume shows how the church can utilize the power of physical symbolism-- embodied in both the "outward and visible" and the "inward and spiritual"--to enrich worship.

I've always been told that sacraments are "a means of grace," and that has never made real sense to me. What does that mean? Is anything in which God shows me grace a sacrament? Is any gift from God a sacrament?

For people like me who did not grow up in a sacramentally aware church tradition, this book is golden. Whether you want to just know more about baptism and communion or you want to become fully immersed in the seven Catholic sacraments, White's book guides you ecuminically through the different sacraments in biblical and historical perspective, commenting on their implications to our world and their most effective performance. This book is a great start in any study of the sacraments.
