Empire Without End

Rate this book
On the far side of darkness and despair, hope endures.

It has been two centuries since the death of the Old World, where the skies bled fire, and the gods wept poison upon the realm of man.

But all is not lost.

Vast armies pound their drums throughout the New World. Gods and angels anoint their chosen peoples. The age of darkness is over. After two hundred years of chaos, mankind has finally awoken. With the might of Old World industry, the power of New World magic, and the dream of a better future, men and women from across the planet stand beneath the banner of a black eagle.

Their mission is to reclaim humanity’s ancient birthright.

Their deeds will forge an empire without end.

About the author

Theodore Hodges

4 books32 followers
Theodore "Ted" Hodges is a US Army infantry veteran, two time recipient to an all expenses paid trip to Bactria by the US Government, and major fan of stories about space wizards, warfare, politics, history, and the soldiering profession. He writes because there is no greater joy for him to engage with theoretical worlds with a willing audience. More importantly, perhaps, Hodges believes in the profession of arms and the greatest acts of humanity the inhumanity of group violence can produce.

Most of Hodges' work focuses on the nature of warriors. Some tales explore whether or not anyone can step in the same river twice after seeing the elephant. Others are about the oaths we swear and to whom we swear them. All are about fraternity and loyalty, the greatest gift to any human being who has picked up a rifle, spear, or gladius in service to their homeland.

Empire Without End is the sequel that I was truly hoping for to Lords of the Dead, Theodore Hodges previous work. It starts off much faster than Lords and you meet Astrid, a very enjoyable character to discover a new world with. I won't get into details and spoil the book for you, but if you like fantasy/sci-fi books that are much more realistic, you will love this book.

Much like Mr. Hodges' previous work, this book started with some dark scenes. It moved forward and showed that this universe has hope for a new, brighter day. The combat scenes are gritty and bloody, as well as extremely well written. If you enjoy any military fiction, you will enjoy this as well. Looking forward to more work from Theodore Hodges!!

I received this book as an advanced reader copy.

I won this in a Goodreads giveaway, much thanks to all involved. This book was decent, but I expected something much different going in, which kind of ruined my experience. Definitely not anyone’s fault but mine for getting my hopes up. The action scenes were well done, but the overall military fiction vibe just wasn’t my ideal book, but again, definitely my own fault with this one! I hope to try others by the same author in the future!

The author does a good job drawing the reader in and keeps an even pace through the story. It has a lot of action which helps draw the reader along in the story.

Great read

There was never a dull moment, I couldn't put it down. I didn't realize it was a sequel, so I'll definitely be reading the first.
