9/28/25 so I've read a few books by this author - they've either been just ok, or I LOVED them ... and this one ... is definitely one of the better ones. I LOVED FL's grandmother. SUCH AN AMAZING WOMAN. WRITE A STORY WHERE SHE'S THE PROTAGONIST BUT GIVE HER A HEA ROMANCE! Anyway. What happens with FL's oldest maternal cousin is probably going to live with me for a long long time. (How her grandmother tries to convince her at first then finally is like "ok go make your stupid mistake - I won't indulge you, but when you finally figure our you're being a fucking idiot I'll still be here, I'll help you, and I'll support you to find another better man." AMAZING. And none of this controlling "definitely no you have to marry who I choose even though it'll just cause a hateful couple."
Even [near] the end ...well I did want to slap the shit out of ML, stupid asshole - IS THAT HOW YOU GROVEL?! Like how DARE you blame FL?! And then how everyone misunderstands FL [even as they largely support her] but she just can't be bothered to explain because people wouldn't listen or believe her anyway. I get why ML was mad like ok some shit did look "bad" but guy. You fuck.
Honestly I wanted more interaction with the emperor too. IT'S VERY EXCITING TO HAVE A BOOK WITH AN EMPEROR WHO ISN'T THE PROTAGONIST IS ACTUALLY GOOD, OKAY?! LOL I almost feel like I need to create a tag...
I can actually see myself re-reading this book. But oof. [The wife chasing lol ... pretty good, though not EPIC.]
