A love full of longing and irreconcilable regrets that their souls literally travelled to the past to save their love. It was an inexplicable love story that was intricately woven in a thread of cause and effect — because she loved him, she went back and changed his fate; because he loved her, he went back and saved her life.
Huo Liuxing and Shen Lingzhen were fated that even heavens could not prevent. They were destined to be separated, but still fated to be together in the end.
Shen Lingzhen was an innocent young woman in terms of otherworldly views, but she was also not naive in the face of troubled times. It was pretty amazing to read how she untangled the complexity of each and every action that people around her painstakingly created. She was able to analyze things with just few clues. And yet, despite knowing the cruelty of it all, she remained kind at heart and was able to discern right from wrong. She was innocent, but not stupid. And I loved her for that.
Huo Liuxing had lived a life filled with responsibilities and sufferings. From the very moment he was born, it was as if he was destined to suffer and yet she changed that. Huo Liuxing was smart and cunning. He always did everything for the “greater good” even if this greater good did not include his own life. Driven by revenge and unresolved pain from the past, every step he took was calculated until she came. Shen Lingzhen was the expected yet unexpected variable that ultimately changed the fate of everyone. He was decisive general, but when it came to her, he was just a man who tried so hard to protect their love.
Also, I LOVE THE SIDE COUPLE — Meng Qufei and Huo Shuyi. I hoped we had more of their banters.
I honestly love how the misunderstandings were quickly resolved because they knew the characters of each other deeply. The author did not make her readers feel stupid. Thank goodness.
