Sure, everyone always says, "You need to think outside the box." Well that's great, but the only problem is that no one ever shows us how. So whether you're leading a big R&D project, managing a marketing team, or running operations, Think Outside Your Blocks will help you look at your business challenges in a whole new way. Kevin Carroll has filled his "quick-read" book with lots of real world examples, brainteasers, and, most importantly, tools and techniques that you can put to use immediately!
I thought this was an interesting concept, because this book is focused on teaching you techniques on how to approach problems from an unorthodox perspective. I picked it up because, as a technical professional, I often find myself approaching situations that often require noticing some tiny detail or putting together a sequence of events that is not immediately obvious. This is kind of an art as much of a science, but this book really introduces some good ways to develop this kind of thinking. For example, the book points out a very simple fact: actually think about the words people are using and what meaning they have in context. We often just attach a meaning to what is said to us and plow forward, not considering for a moment that what was said may not mean what we automatically think it means. There are lots of other interesting little tricks the book introduces/reminds you of, making it worth the read if you think you would benefit by thinking about things a little differently.
