It really is the basics; they aren't lying about that. I haven't done a whole hell of a lot of gender studies reading, but a lot of it seemed elementary even to me. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to people who have almost no familiarity with critical engagements with the concept of gender as it's very accessible.
