Published some twenty years after Coltrane’s passing, this small publication examines the work of the great jazz musician, by emphazising the bitter and slow (drug abusive) start of his carreer and mainly focussing on the technical elements of Trane’s style. It does not live up to Don Cherry’s final note, stating (Trane) ‘his thinking was spiritual but instead speaking it, he would play it and you could feel it’. Didn’t feel it while reading… Must be a great explanation for players though, Priestly’s effort.
