Margaret Edith Weis is an American fantasy and science fiction author of dozens of novels and short stories. At TSR, Inc., she teamed with Tracy Hickman to create the Dragonlance role-playing game (RPG) world. She is founding CEO and owner of Sovereign Press, Inc and Margaret Weis Productions, licensing several popular television and movie franchises to make RPG series in addition to their own. In 1999, Pyramid magazine named Weis one of The Millennium's Most Influential Persons, saying she and Hickman are "basically responsible for the entire gaming fiction genre". In 2002, she was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame in part for Dragonlance.
Confession time. In high school I didn't read much outside of school assignments and John Grisham novels. Back then dinosaurs roamed the earth and "teenager books" didn't hold my interest. I was ready for something more mature than The Babysitters Club, but not as sexy as the popular bodice rippers.
One day my friend lent me Dragons of Autumn Twilight (Dragonlance Chronicles Book 1) by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. I was skeptical: elves and dragons are for kids. Then I read it. Mind blown! A whole new world opened up to me and I've never been the same. Discovering the wonderful fantasy available for YA and adults reignited my love of reading and I've never looked back. It gets some extra credit for reintroducing me to fantasy and nostalgia goggles. A great intro to high fantasy.
I really wanted to like this book. I love fantasy, action, and adventure books + the reviews for this book are very positive. However after reading this book on a 22 hour plane ride I must say I was disappointed. There are certainly some interesting plot points but other than a couple of main characters I just didn't care about anyone else. I also wasn't the biggest fan of the writing, like there were several times in the book where the characters were in a situation were everyone thought they were going to die and/or be captured. Yet it was so easy to tell that the stakes weren't that high and that everyone would come out out fine and unscathed which is what happened pretty much everytime.

I really loved this fantasy genre book! It was full of adventure and overcoming obstacles with interestingly diverse characters. It had funny moments and the detail was wonderful. The book really read like a real D&D campaign. I highly recommend this book!
