My Review:
My son loves this book! And I have to admit, that you will find various members of our family at any given time reading through this book as well. It is a great book filled with selected Bible stories that are sure to enrich and encourage your child. But that's not all, each story is written in picture form---which I think adds to how truly great the book really is.At the beginning of the book the author and illustrator provide you with two pages filled to the brim with the different pictures included in the book and under each picture there is a one word meaning to help us in reading it to them.
The book is designed for beginning readers ages 4-7 that are just learning how to read. The rebus method is used so that it makes it easier for them to read and understand. The book is based on the New International Readers version of the Bible and it is amazing to watch those little eyes explore as they start to read all the Bible stories that they have grown to love and now they can read themselves. A delightful way to help new readers learn even more!
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher.
When "My Learn to Read Bible" by Tracy Harrast arrived in the mail, I was surprised how big it was! It is approximately 9 x 11 inches and almost a full inch thick! The pages are heavy duty, glossy, and colorful. "My Learn to Read Bible" uses pictures to stand for certain words in the book so that younger kids can get involved in reading the Bible stories. In the beginning of the book is a list of the pictures they use and what they stand for. The book is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament like a regular Bible would be. There are 53 stories from the Old Testament and 60 from the New Testament. Each story has a life lesson at the end of it as the "take away" of what the story is trying to teach. My oldest child read this book with her youngest brother. She would read the words and he would read the pictures. They had a lot of fun reading the book together.
I would recommend this book to families of young children. The listed age range is 4-8 but I think that younger children would enjoy reading this with their older siblings or parents.
I received a free hardcover copy of "My Learn to Read Bible" from Zondervans in exchange for my review through their ZBlogSquad.
I recently had the opportunity to enjoy this book with a couple of my preschool aged grand kids. We had so much fun reading this together! It is a simple concept that they caught onto very quickly. I just used my finger to track where we were at in the book and within minutes they were chiming in with the correct word as we came to each icon.
The pride and joy on their faces as they participated in the storytelling was absolutely priceless! If you have a little one that is either a pre-reader or a beginning reader I think you will find this resource to be a delight in your daily Bible reading. In my opinion as a retired homeschooling mom this would be wonderful to use with family devotions so that the older children and the younger children could all participate together.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
The size of this large Bible is an awesome lap size perfect for snatching some cuddle time with your eager reader. Or maybe the not-so-eager reader may even want to catch a glimpse at these images and try to decode what all those letters and words are trying to say. What better reason to learn to read than to be able to learn the scripture. This is truly a neat tool.
