As Merleawe becomes more comfortable living among the disciples of Sylthfarn, she's still not confident that she can pull off the role well enough to convince everyone. Glenn encourages her to be more like herself and less like the wizard—but it's hard to be yourself when you have a dangerous stalker lurking in the shadows!
I have to say that even though I've rated both volumes I've read so far at 3 stars, I do feel like this volume reads as a bit more rushed and haphazard than the first. (And I still struggle at times to remember that this isn't an isekai.) There isn't much that I could say here to elaborate on what I've already said to describe this story in my review of the first volume, possibly because this volume feels very full of slice-of-life moments (even with a flashback in the first couple chapters of this volume) and even those feel very rushed and chaotic.
I realize it's only the second volume and there's still more to read. (Heck, I bought the third volume from RightStufAnime because I knew I wanted to keep trying with the series, and it was dirt-cheap on their site.) But if the remaining volumes of this series continue to feel very...sparse in terms of depth and storycraft, then I think once I finish the entire series I'll probably end up passing it along to one of my nieces. Perhaps that's not a great portent to be predicting this early into it, but I'd still like to see some improvement as I go through.
Compared to the first volume, this was a bit boring and very confusing.
I really don't know where the author is going. Merleawe isn't really training to substitute Sylth, it even seems this has been completely forgotten because here it's all about Merleawe's relationships with the people in the castle.
This volume was really sparse and just didn't have a lot of meaningful content. It didn't really add much in way of narrative and felt more like a recap of the previous volume. I do have the whole series, so I will continue reading it. However, I found this volume disappointing after I thought the first volume had a pretty strong start. Giving it two stars because I'm still a big fan of the art style.
I have not had much time for reading recently (uni dissertation!), so I've been reading more manga than usual as I find I can get through one in about 20-30 minutes.
This is the second book in this series, again another super quick read! This books follows on from where the first one left off and we are back in the magical world where the Wizard Master has disappeared!
Merleawe is becoming more comfortable with her new life, posing as a man of great responsibility in the castle, that is, until her elder brother shows up at her school unannounced! Her life in the castle is supposed to remain a secret, but how can she keep this particularly huge secret from family?
Still really enjoying the series. Merleawe is pretty cute, even if she's stereotypical, and I'm enjoying learning more about Sylth himself. Cute art, interesting story. Nothing special, but very enjoyable.
I think we can all understand the perils of pretending to being something that your are not. How it can tear you up inside and make life difficult. It shows that while hard working she is not as infalible as the rest of us. Follow your heart and you will follow.
