Manga: Magical X Miracle
Volume: 1-6
Rating based on entire series: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A simple story with the found family trope. It was emotional, lighthearted and a fast paced read. I would have preferred the plot to slow down a bit but for a manga that was only 6 volumes, it was able to tell a wonderful story.

I found loveable characters and I enjoyed how in a way, we grew up with them. As I got to know our characters, there were multiple times where I started to tear up with their hardships.

The plot itself was very simple and straightforward which isn't a bad thing if you're looking for more of a light manga to pick up. It was definitely a manga where the relationship between each character was the focal point. I would have loved to learn more about the world they lived in - more magic and more of the looming threat - I feel like with more description in those areas, it would have added even more to this manga.

Overall, this was a quick read that I enjoyed.

If you've been following my reviews for a while, you know I've started a trend in my manga reviews where I've begun hunting down manga series I read a little of when I was in high school but never got to finish, for the sake of getting to re-read the stories as an adult and finally finish them. This one was actually one I never read (not that I can recall,) though I do remember having heard about it from a few friends, and it was nice to finally pick up a copy and crack it open.

Magical x Miracle is a fantasy shoujo manga following a young, teenage protagonist who looks astonishingly like the Master Wizard of her realm. (I will admit, the clothing designs for the characters had me thrown off initially; I thought the protagonist was from our world and got tossed into a fantasy one, but that is not the case.) So when her resemblance is discovered, a group of four well-meaning young men from the palace back her into an impossible task to impersonate the Master Wizard until his true whereabouts are discovered. A lot of close calls, sticky situations and a few terrifying moments occur for all five of them as their scheme gets underway.

As the opening to a series, this isn't a bad one; in somewhat typical shoujo manga fashion, we're introduced to our protagonist almost the second that the plot kicks in, for that moment of "OH NO, IT'S THE PLOT, WHAT AM I GONNA DO?!" panic that's meant to read as semi-funny. Our protagonist gets very tiny reveals as to her character only a few times throughout the book, which is hopefully building towards more reveal of depth in later volumes. As it is, she feels very bland and like a blank-slate, especially for someone who's essentially named for a pun on a type of wine.

The four gents responsible for pulling her into this scheme get a little more characterization, but barely have any more depth than she does. While the plot seems like it's building up to something intense, deep, or thought-provoking, it takes a while to really get to the meat of the concept, which revolves around Merleawe trying to impersonate someone she doesn't know at all and trying to figure out both who he is and who she herself is in the process. The pacing is somewhat all over the place and there's not a lot of depth to any of the characters or concepts we've been introduced to in this first volume, but I have hopes that this series is about self-discovery and selflessness, based on what I have read here. This isn't the best first book I've seen so far for a manga series, but it's not bad at all, and the art is at least very endearing. I'll continue to give further volumes a shot for now.

It's not my normal genre: a magic adventure. I've enjoyed it on several occasions. It has enough character development to be satisfying, and few enough of the usual scenarios to keep my interest. Nice and sweet. And, as my usual pattern, will probably read it again this year. [2009]

3.5 magical frienship stars for the series.

A light fantasy manga, with wizards, and a teen girl trying to fit into big shoes.

Bonus: No romance.

This is something I've wanted to read for year's now and finally got around to it.

It's about Merleawe, the main character, trying to become a wizard. She is just starting wizarding school when she gets kidnapped by a random stranger off the street and taken to a castle. There, she find's out that she looks exactly like the Master Wizard that has somehow disappeared and no one knows where he is. She get's asked to take his place while they, the servants, try to find him and make sure the town's folks don't get upset and scared that he's missing. She agrees.

From there, she has to learn how to act like him, go to school, and still try to have a social life outside too.

I have a few problems with this book.
1: All the female characters have blond hair. I was confused at first who was who in chapter 2.
2: Even if you look exactly like someone else, you will never be able to replace them without someone noticing pretty quickly (even fraternal twins, someone is bound to notice). And it would be even harder when you've never met the person you are trying to replace.

This is the first manga I ever bought on my own when I first started reading mangas, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. It did not have the most amazing or original story, but the characters were likeable - Merleawe is almost impossibly sweet, and she always tries her best. The adorable outfits were definitely one of the strengths of the manga.

I recently just purchased this entire series off eBay. I remembered liking it back when it was released but had never purchased it. I was hoping I would still I like it all these years later... And needless to say.... I absolutely still love it. The characters. The art. Can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Series review: I enjoyed this one, gender bends are always fun. I only wish Merleawe was given a love interest. If you want something with romance in it, this is not it.

This used to be one of my favourite mangas. When I started re-reading it now, some 3 years later, I initially liked it a lot less than I used to. The manga was cute, yes, but predictable and it had a story that had been told many times before. All the same, as I continued the re-read, I kept on falling in love with everyone just like I used to. I also cried my way through the last two volumes, just like I used to.

One of my favourite things about this manga is that it's a lovely story of friendship, not of romance. Romance is not a bad thing, but when your main character is a 14 year old girl (for most of the manga) it's nice that for once she does not find the love of her life, just people she cares for dearly. I just really liked Merleawe in general: she was an airy, bubbly and sweet girl and I adored her a lot. And all the other characters were just lovely and fantastic as well! Glenn was sweet, I actually liked Yue a lot too, Fern and Vaith just cracked me up. It was the perfect group of friends.

The drawing style of this manga is also very recommendable. It's very cutesy, but if you like that style, you'll quickly fall in love with Yuzu Mizutani's drawings.

Re-reading because I finally got my grabby hands on all six volumes.

This is really a good introduction to this series. I guess I have to thank GR for recommending it.

Well, it took me forever to get to this little book ma it was worth it. Unfortunately I have an old tattered copy and I had to put a lot of tape on it to make sure it can resist to more reading in the future.

In a fantasy world a girl enrolled in a magic school, needs to dress up as the master wizard, who mysteriously disappeared. In the meantime, she's still a student at the magic school.

I liked this first volume and I'll do my best to get all six of them. Volume five and six, however, are very expensive. Let's see what I can get.

I'll admit that I had low expectations for this manga, as it just seemed pretty generic as a premise. However, I actually rather enjoyed it. The story revolves around a young girl living in a fantasy world. Remarkably she bears a striking resemblance to a very important figurehead and wizard who had gone missing. So four well-meaning people convince her to disguise herself as the wizard for the sake of the town. The girl in disguise trope is always a fun one to me personally, and I have to say that this manga seems to handle the trope a bit better than something like Prince Freya which is too rushed and incoherent at times.

Young Merleawe is a country side girl who had traveled to the kingdom capitol only to study magic and become a wizard. But when Vaith, captain of the Black Knights, finds her and mistakes her for the Master Wizard, whom had gone missing previously, she is taken to the castle to play figurehead for the missing grand wizard, but does she have what it takes to lie to every face in the kingdom of Viegald?

An interesting little manga that I'm looking forward to continuing. Merleawe, while stereotypical, is interesting enough, as are the other characters. They all have a bit of depth and mystery to them that makes it entertaining. The major downfall is that the art is a little chaotic, and it's hard to understand what I'm looking at for the first few pages.

I'm also very curious as to where the real Master Wizard has gone.

Nothing radically special but I really liked it for its sweet main character.

The plot is that the girl has to dress up as the main wizard because he has disappeared so to keep the people from panicking. Not original, but I like how it is portrayed and the girl makes you feel for her. The ending is sad :(

Cute and sweet manga, very easy and quick to read! I enjoyed the story of it and the use of magic, and the idea of the magic school.

I have not had much time for reading recently (uni dissertation!), so I've been reading more manga than usual as I find I can get through one in about 20-30 minutes.
