A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

Collecting the 'Death of Spider-Man Prelude', 'Death of Spider-Man', 'Ultimate Comics Avengers vs. New Ultimates: Death of Spider-Man' and Ultimate Comics Spider-Man: Death of Spider-Man Fallout arcs in which Bendis expertly ratchets up the drama and reality of a 16-year old super powered boy trying to be a superhero whilst living with his middle-aged aunt and Gwen Stacey. It's simply one of the best Spider-Man stories ever told, and saddest! It features the best ever version of Mysterio = the darkest version. It features the bravest ever Aunt May and MJ. It probably features the craziest Norman Osborn and that's saying something. It hurts to read this. Bendis portrays a truly teenage boy Spider-Man, and also the best of the best. A absolute must read for all lovers of the superhero genre. Excelsior! 9.5 out of 12.

The Avengers/Ultimates battle can be left on the sideboard, but the Ultimate Spider-Man volumes are superbly superb, after the marvelous Mysterio and Black Cat shenanigans in the Prelude, thinks kick off big time when led by Osborn the entire Sinister Six breakout and are after Spidey, or should I say Peter Parker! One night of high drama and mayhem ensues, and from the series we fear the worse!

The Fallout volume is immense. Not only foreshadowing the next steps for the Ultimates, mutants and the former Fantastic Four tea, but going deep on the pain and loss of losing Peter Parker across the Ultimate community, so heartbreaking and so well written. Oh and introducing a new Spider-Man!!!! 9 out of 12 overall.

I really like this. So much I'm giving it an extra star from the last time I read it because it was still enjoyable on the re-read. Always loved the Ultimate Spider-man book and I think this is a great final send off for Peter Parker. There is some stuff in here that seems out of place, the whole Ultimates vs Avengers thing (not sure if we needed the whole mini in this but okay?) and the stuff from Fallout that's just setup for the relaunch. But the character stuff is fun and there's some really touching moments in here.

This feels. Right into the gut. Having read and followed though Ultimate Spider-man´s Peter Parkers story now for little over a week. A almost two year (comic book time) long character development has been unfolded and when you come to the title result of the book. It! Feels! He lived up to his promise, till the end. The Fallout issues are some of the sadest portayels of losing a great hero.

My 4 stars here is more of a cumulative rating for the end of the series as I have mixed feelings about the end of Ultimate Spider-Man (at least, as we've grown to know it).

The first story arc isn't bad, starting with a high as we explore the fall out of the recent chameleons storyline (a fall out that is all too often glossed over in comics). There's a bit of a rag tag bunch of ingredients including the Ultimates, Mysterio, a welcome return of the Black Cat and a macguffin that even the Kingpin wouldn't use. Sara Pichelli's pencils are a step up from LaFuente though there's quite a lot of variation. I still feel that Peter doesn't have a 'look' anymore. Still, it's fun and establishes a new status quo for Pete. Albeit, shortlived.

The next Ultimates/Avengers storyline is actually quite good though I had no idea about recent events, having stopped reading after Ultimatum (gaargh - Loeb!). It didn't take too long to pick up the pieces (or who the 'baddie' turns out to be) and is an interesting take on things but my issue here is the almost inconsequential fate of Pete in the middle. I can see why it was collected in this Omnibus edition, to provide the background for why he's shot but it really didn't add much and then to casually mention at the end his murder just seems shortchanged. It could have been skipped without detriment to the Spider-Man story.

And then we come to the final arc. It was actually pretty emotional, knowing what was coming. There's a lot of foreshadowing and weighted conversations making it all the more upsetting. And his death genuinely is upsetting. A character that I've read and loved for the last decade. The story itself though feels lacking, just padding to reach the end, rather than something of substance. Resurrecting Norman (again) felt cheap and his blind hatred and need to kill Pete just felt hollow. I like the stance Doc Ock took (though it felt a little out of character) and the rest of the sinister six fit right in with stupid revenge motivations. I think they had to go for something suitably epic and it does feel that way. The thing is, it didn't seem like much more than Pete has gone through before. He's been shot before, he's been severely injured before and this didn't really feel any more intense. Just another fiery Goblin throw down. It's almost like Pete has accepted his time was almost up and he just lets go. Hmmm. I almost wonder if there would have been more power from Pete dying randomly in a random battle with a hood - something stupid and unexpected, something real. A fluke. The main redeeming feature in all this was the return of Bagley and his pencils. Absolutely fantastic and long missed. Plus, credit to Quesada for a brilliant cover - a simple shot of Uncle Ben and Pete walking into the light. 'You did good, kid'. Heartbreaking

I think the biggest disappointment was the Fallout story. I thought this was billed as an in depth exploration of the main characters in Peter's life but really it's just setting up the next story strands in the Ultimate Universe, none of which particularly appeals to me anymore. I mean, MJ barely gets a look in and Gwen seems almost happy.

So. An end. I guess one that felt inevitable though I'm sorry to see the end of the Ultimate Peter Parker. I truly hope he doesn't return though. To mean anything he has to stay dead. My biggest question is do I pick up USM with Miles and see how things have changed? Hmmm. I am curious and would quite like to catch up with some of the supporting cast again. I think I need a break first.

RIP Peter Parker and a uniformly excellent series.

Prezentowany jest nowy Spider-man.

Rozbija to imersję, którą autor chciał uzyskać. Średnio to wyszło.

Ultimate Spider-Man’ı Omnibus formatında okumaya başladım ve maalesef pek sevdiğimi söyleyemem.

Not: Ultimate Spier-Man oyunu güzeldi.

Bence Ultimate Spider-Man’in en iyi dönemi, çizimleri Immonen devraldığında başlıyor. Bendis’in “relaunch” döneminde de kalite yeniden geriliyor.

For years, Marvel had a stellar collections department. Books came out regularly, linked together like clockwork, and if Marvel started a series you could depend on them finishing it. But in the last year or two, cash-grubbing-itis has struck Marvel and they've started producing incompatible "series collections" and "even collections". So Marvel came out with USMO #3, and then they jumped forward to this one. Was it meant to replace USMO #5? Will it be a subset of USMO #5? Or will it just incompatible? We Still don't know. USMO #4 did finally come out, and it's annoyingly got an issue of overlap, but otherwise this volume completes the Peter Parker/USM story. So I went ahead and picked it up after reading USMO #4, because I WANTED That story.

And I guess I'll see if Marvel makes me regret this purchase next year, say by releasing an USMO #5 with the Team-Up stories. (And that underlines the real problem: after years of reliable collection mapping, Marvel has now turned it into guesswork which combines really badly with the FOMO that results from these collections constantly dropping out of print.)

Prelude. A volume that really shows off that the heart of this Spider-Man is in its character moments--which comprise the vast majority of this book. [5/5]

Avengers vs New Ultimates. An excellent conclusion to Millar’s Ultimate Avengers run with great, brutal stories that go hand-in-hand with his earliest Ultimates work. I do hope we get the missing Ultimates/Ultimate Avengers volumes in this new set of collections, but if not, having the start and the end is great [5/5].

Death. An appropriately epic battle and a story that’s at times moving and heroic. Not convinced it’s the best storytelling, as opposed to a media event, though. [4+/5]

Fallout. A book that I like even less on a reread. Bendis’ chapters do a great job of bookending Spider-Man, while Hickman’s Nick Fury finale nails it. The rest of the book is much more transparently a setup for v3 of Ultimate Comics, and as a result, it just doesn't fit with the rest of the narrative. Unless you're specifically returning to those series, you'll find yourself skipping over that content to get to the "good" stuff. (Some of this stuff fit much better in the new Hickman Omnibus.) [3/5]

Wow, what a journey. The actual “Death of Spider-Man” arc is peak comics, and arguably the best executed death in ALL of comics (I can only imagine how emotional this must’ve been for fans reading month-to-month), but I can’t give this omnibus itself a perfect score because everything surrounding it is all just fine, at best. The prelude USM issues are nothing to write home about, “Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates” feels completely unnecessary and disconnected from Peter’s story, they could’ve gone with just putting in a recap page and maybe just showing the part where Punisher shoots him, and “Ultimate Fallout” isn’t terrible, but its real goal is more to set up the status quo of the Ultimate universe moving forward than to actually mourn Spider-Man. Still, since this is currently the only book in print that collects one of the best modern Spider-Man stories, I have to strongly recommend it.

The epitome of a Spider-Man story. If you want to read the best Spider-Man run, this is it. I know they did some stuff later on in the continuation with Miles that changes it, but just a truly amazing Spider-Man comic, and I'm glad Bendis and Bagley got to end it together.

WOW!!!! I cannot believe the stories described in this collection of books.... Peter Parker died and the blame can be put on no other characters but the ones that really believed that they were helping him. I have read all the stories, up to and past the Ultimatum and I hoped Spider-man would escape the ultimate’s touch of devastation. What I read and from what I gathered on Spider-man stepping up for training and the decisions by Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America’s perspective of Spider-man, making me dislike those characters, or the Ultimate’s… from a fictitious story with fictitious characters. That is how strong of a character Spider-man was and what I fear will be the biggest loss from the Ultimate universe. This book gets five stars, not for the ending, not for the character interactions, but for the death of a truly iconic version of Spider-man who was a 16 year old boy that was just beginning to develop his true powers. It truly saddens me that the Ultimate destruction destroyed this version of a truly lasting character. I hope the future of the Ultimate universe will brighten because it has, I fear, lost one reader.

This is a great collection. Putting the miniseries explaining what was going on with Fury versus Danvers in the middle made sense. However, it still muddied up what was a pretty linear timeline, with that series ending with Spidey declared dead, and going back to Spider-man where he was still alive.

The death arc itself is what I think of as a great Spidey story. Peter has to make the tough choice of helping the Avengers, or making sure his family is safe. He's injured and beaten down, and has to scrape himself off the ground again and again until he just can't do it anymore. The funeral had me in tears.

Now I need to go back and read the whole middle of this series. I really liked what I saw of the supporting characters in Peter's life, especially Aunt May.

The choice to kill a superhero is not made lightly. Peter Parker's existence, whether in the standard Marvel universe or in the Ultimates universe, is one of constant struggle, heartbreak and angst. His death while other heroes ignore/are distracted, on one hand, seems like the logical conclusion to his crime-fighting legacy. On the other hand, I want to admonish the writers for continuing the cruelty of Parker's existence.

That said, the lead-in, execution and immediate follow-up is done brilliantly, with appropriate action and emotion and opportunities for character development for heroes, villains and supporting characters. If you're going to do it, this is a pretty good way to do it.

This was truly heartbreaking to read, although it definitely reeked of "stunt" so that they could hype up the fact that *a* Peter was killed in the publicity. It's a return to form for Bendis, who in the comics before this clearly showed his focus wasn't on the book anymore. Bagley is much appreciated, although he seems to be a bit rusty on drawing Peter.

I hate what they (Marvel) did, but they did an excellent job with the story. Yeah, even though it was the Peter Parker from the Ultimate storyline, even though I knew what was going to happen, it still brought a tear to my eye. The folks at Marvel know how to bring the emotion out in a story of heroism and sacrifice.

Was really enjoying the Spider-man collections preceding this book. This is a pretty good read, except for the Ultimates story included which is ugly. Not sure of the logic of killing off Peter Parker. The Ultimate Universe sure kills off too many characters. Good story and nice artwork in the Spider-man chapters.
