Malcolm Boyes was born at Norton, near Malton. He pioneered the 54 miles North York Moors Crosses Walk in 1971, the 50 mile Cleveland Way Missing Link walk in 1975, the 44 mile Captain Cook Memorial Walk in 1977 in time to be used by the local rescue teams as a sponsored walk on the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook's birth; and also the 26 mile Falcon Flyer. For 12 years he was a member of the Scarborough and District Search and Rescue Team. He was a member of the Outdoor Writers' Guild.
He and wife Hazel Chester were (as of 1996 where details taken from) a freelance partnership having over 26 books published on different aspects of the North of England, and contributed matieral to seven other books and numerous magazines.
