A compelling poem paired with a lovely compilation of both contemporary and modern commentary excerpts. This short poem has produced an astonishing amount of commentary, and it was interesting to read some commentators discuss and challenge the perspectives of prior critics on certain points.
As with most literary criticism, I began to feel a bit exasperated with the discussions around symbolism, around which were the longest and most navel-gazing of commentaries, and skimmed a meaningful portion of this particular category of content.
Still an excellent handbook, all-told!
