With a vengeful stalker on her trail and a hurricane in the Gulf, Skyler Danforth relocates to South Padre Island only to find a new danger when her neighbor, Zach Bailey takes her heart by storm. Sky is a nurse and after two attempts on her life, moves to South Padre to live with her baby sister Cassie, a brilliant prodigy, in hopes of eluding her stalker. Cassie is in over her brainy head when a local heart-breaker and fire fighter, Javier Rios pursues her. He is attracted to her natural innocence and beauty but thinks she is only a restaurant delivery girl. He falls hard for the geeky, Master’s degree wielding Marine Biologist. Sky tries to fit in and be patient when she realizes that she is falling fast for Zach but he is on the rebound and cautious. When the storm comes ashore and the island is evacuated, Sky and Cassie are trapped in the fortress-like hospital with a woman in labor, a heart attack victim and the stalker. Locked out, Zach and Javi use their own unique talents to breach the impenetrable medical facility, each sacrificing something of great personal value in the process. The easy going Zach is forced to step way outside his comfort zone and fight to protect the woman he loves.
Writer of sexy and humorous contemporary romance and writer of sensual, dark romantic suspense. Can you say split personality?

This book is a two for one book. There are two romance stories in this book and at the heart of them are sisters Cassie and Sky. They’ve relocated to this little gulf town in Texas after a horrible set of circumstances have left Sky with a stalker who is trying to kill her. Her sister, Cassie, was already moving to the town and since it was all being done in Cassie's name, they both thought it would be a good place for Sky to hide-out under the radar. BUT Sky is a nurse and that's one of those jobs that requires lots of paperwork and tracking. Cassie is a brilliant whiz-kid who's earned her Master's degree at the age of 20. She's relocated to the town to take over as the school biology teacher.
For the heroes in this book, we have two great ones. We met Zach in the first book of this series, Bad Medicine. I was intrigued with his character then and it was fun to watch him find his happily ever after. I love that he's part of this huge red-headed Bailey clan and it was definitely fun to get to know them all in this book. The other hero, Javier is a firefighter. He was born and has grown up on the island. His mom is a nurse and works with Sky at the hospital, but it takes a while for her to warm up to Cassie. For him, when he meets Cassie, it's instant love.
One of the things I loved about this book was the theme of family. For all the main characters, family is extremely important and that shows in everything they do. For me personally, the characters fell in love a little too quickly, but again I think that goes back to the theme. These guys want to be married and have families. When they meet the right girls, there is absolutely no hesitation. They are all in and that's okay with them if it means right now.
I love that these books are set in Texas, down on the gulf. I'm a Texas girl and that part of the state is completely foreign to me, so I like these little visits to find out about life in the gulf part of the state. I also LOVED the fact that we get to revisit the characters from Bad Medicine, Rafael and Chloe. I still love them and it was wonderful to see them in this book ...and to honestly spend some quality time with their characters, not just have them make cute little cameos in the periphery of the story.
From the sneak peek, it looks like Darla's story is next....another of the Bailey kids. This one is the sharp-shooter for the police force and a female working in this male dominated field...I'm looking forward to reading it. Already, I am in love with her hero, an undercover agent, and am really excited about their story.
Bad Karma is the sequel to Bad Medicine, but you don't necessarily have to read them in order. There are recurring characters in the books, but each has their own storyline and you will not get confused. This book is about Skylar and Cassidy (Cassie), who move to a small coastal town in Texas because Skylar is being stalked by a killer. Sky takes a nursing job at the local hospital and Cassie has accepted a teaching job in the hopes they have escaped Sky's stalker and Cassie can begin an independent life of her own. As they are moving into their rental house, they meet the good-looking guy who lives next door, Zach. The attraction between Skylar and Zach is immediate. Cassie meets a hunk of a man, Javier, when she is jogging down the beach. Both Zach and Javier are local boys, and do everything they can to protect these girls and win their hearts. Zach is marine biologist and has a large family, who welcome the girls with open arms. Family is also important to Javier, but initially has a problem with his mother accepting Cassie. I think I enjoyed the romance between Cassie and Javier a little bit more than Sky and Zach's. Javier stole my heart. But Zach is also very charming and so good to Sky. I don't want to give too many details away. This is a great book. There are a cast of characters who are very likable and the story is pretty realistic. There is action, humor and two sweet romances in a beautiful setting. I didn't want to put it down. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Bad Karma is another great book by J.D. Faver. I think this is my favorite so far. The tension starts on the first page, with Sky's stalker lurking around. Even when things are going great, there is always this threat hanging around in the background. And this book has a bonus: two love stories in one. Both Danforth sisters find love in their new home. This is book two in the Borderland Series. The characters from Bad Medicine are back, but don't worry if you haven't read it yet because all relevant information is included. You don't really miss anything. Bad Karma has the perfect balance of romance, suspense, and humor. I recommend it and I look forward to the next!
Bad Karma is fast moving, dotted with twists and turns throughout the story. The suspense keeps you turning the pages as you root for Sky and Cassie while they deal with all the hitches that threaten their very lives.
This book was an enjoyable read, I loved that the author kept throwing one complication after another into the mix. With just the right blend, romance and suspense meet head-on, making Bad Karma one of the author's best to date. I look forward to her next novel! The author keeps getting better and better.
Picked this book free from Amazon. It was an okay read, I enjoyed it. Nothing too original but for a free book, it wasn't badly written. Bad Karma tells the story of Skyler and Cassie, two sisters who move to a coastal town in Texas to escape a stalker that has set his sites on Skyler. Both sisters have love stories in the book and I actually liked the secondary hero more I think...The first story details Skyler's meeting and romancing with Zack Bailey. Secondly, you have Skylers sister Cassie meeting Javier Rios, a retired Navy Seal, current hot fireman. The book follows the romances and the drama of trying to protect two damsels in distress from one pyscho stalker by two hot guys. Since Zack is part of a very large family, with several brothers one sister, I'm guessing they may show up in future books.
This is book two in The Edge of Texas series. I didn't read book one and this works fine as a stand alone although I believe book one characters are support characters in this book. I would probably read more of this series if I were able to pick them up for free or 99cents. The family series always draw me in and I can't resist a damsel in distress. A solid 3 star book.
When Sky relocates with her sister Cassie to an Island in southern Texas to escape a stalker, it is a positive change and it looks like her Bad Karma has turned around. But registering to work at the local hospital gives her location to the stalker and new attempts on her life destroy her hopes for happiness. Included in all that intrigue is a neighbor she cannot resist. A lighthearted romp with intrigue and a hurricane, if you love romance, hunky heroes, and strong innocent women this book is for you.
My favorite character is Cassie, she has been a geek all her life, and when she tries to break out of the mold, she does so with humor, and heart. I thoroughly enjoyed her first meeting with Javi, and the way he pursues her. It was sweet and real.
Eventually Sky gets some of her sister's backbone and stands up for herself against her stalker. This is a good book for a cold afternoon in front of the fire, thoroughly enjoyable.

I received this book as a gift in exchange for a honest review. I loved this book, I was hooked from the very first page. The characters were very well developed. Bad Karma was very hard for me to put down. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!! I will be recommending this book to friends and family!!
I love J.D. Faver's books. The Edge of Texas series has been awesome. You really get to know the characters and feel as if you are a part of their world.
Could have been a five star book but had to take one off for they're substituted for there. Two sisters move and find their soul mates while a stalker is after one.
