Tgis was a pretty good 3rd book of a series. Weis and Hickman as usual wrote a great book and I cant wait to see where this series leads us. Skylan is a pretty good lead character but I like Aylaen better and Wulfe ranks up their withlembeck Boltightener as a secondary character. But no one, snd I do mean no one, from any book series can top tasslehoff burrfoot!
Enjoying the adventures of Skylan and his friends immensely. D&D Vikings with a magical ship, continuing to adventure and travel the world they inhabit. A good and original tale so far.
Now this is the third instalment in the Dragonships of Vidras-series. It continues the tale of Aylaen and Skylan. The story in itself is as interesting as in the previous books and it is a joy to read. But there are a few problems with the plot or the subplots, to be precise. I really did not like how the romantic aspect evolved in this book. It somehow nullified everyhting that has happened thus far. Also there were some annoying and unrealistic things that happened...
All in all, this is still a fun book to read but somehow not as good as the two previous books. Still I'm quite eager to start reading the fourth instalment.
This book is essentially a long filler episode with only one or two points of importance to move the story forward. Once again, their quality control seems to have lapsed as the map at the beginning of the book is useless - indicating places that that do not appear in the story while leaving out the places that do appear, the summary on the cover is inaccurate (perhaps reflecting an earlier draft or preview summary), and there is another typo.
A bit of a step down from the earlier two books. A large portion was focused on a new undersea race, the Aquin, that I did not find as interesting as the Sinarians. Also, Aylean said she had secretly loved Skylan all along (and even more than Garn who was her love in the first two books) which I found offputting. I would have preferred that she began to love Skylan as he grew and matured… that would have been a more satisfying story arc.

Totally enjoying the progress of this story. The characters are really going through a ton, and learning as they go - not to say they still don't make mistakes, but what is great is they make sense and it's not forced - or - rather it does not feel forced.
Very interesting fantasy book. The use of cliffhangers and plot twists were superb. Gory but also filled with moments of emotional intensity. There were also humorous moments that lightened the intensity of the story. I recommend this to lovers of fantasy and dragons.
Fun times, with much, much more time spent in the despicable company of Raegar and Treia than I would have expected. While reading that ending battle I was leaning toward a 4 star rating on the strength of the Atlantean adventures and such BUT...
I bought this book in a warehouse booksale. My perception of this book is probably flawed by their very first mistake. Their cover did not state what book this was in the series which I really hate because I'm a chronological order freak. Worse if there was a continuation from previous books. I was thrown right in the middle of the battlefield with names like Aelyeon and Aelon... It was difficult at first but quickly remembered who was which. I did not see how much the characters have grown from previous books so I really did not connect with them and did not really care if they died. In this specific book, I don't see much of any character development but a real messed up family relationship.
This is not a spoiler (probably will spoil if you're reading previous books.. I don't know) as it's the first few chapters. Skylan loves Aelyeon, Raegar is Skylan's cousin who betrayed them. Treia is Aelyeon's sister who also betrayed them. Treia love Raegar. Both are couples. What???
Also, I find their actions a little illogical like when Treia killed their ally, she still freely walks about the ship. The authors did mentioned that they wanted to throw her overboard but didn't because she's Aelyeon's sister but at least tie and gag the woman, I'm sure Aelyeon would be at least OK with that! Aren't they afraid of their own safety? It's like OK.. She killed our ally, no need to take precautions. She walks around trying to spew ill words about everything to Aelyeon. I found it annoying and nobody seems to want to gag her running mouth which unsurprisingly ruined their plans later on. Not even the dragon was interesting. He's just a block of wood with glowing eyes really. The only person I found interesting was Wulfe, a fae child with an mysterious back story that you just want to know more about but there wasn't much of him in the story.
When I picked this up I thought it was the final part of the trilogy, so imagine my surprise when I realized it was instead the third part of a quartet. It does explain why a large part of the first half of the book feels like filler, though. While the main character, Skylan, has grown a whole lot since the first book and has grown into a very enjoyable character, the novel spins its wheels for the first half, especially when it switches POV completely in Book Two. Once it switches back, however, the story picks up, as the intrigue between the various sects of gods is interesting, as is the subplot of what exactly the dragons know and what they intend to do. The climax is very thrilling; the book barrels on through its last hundred pages at a rousing pace, but the ending is a little abrupt. In short, it would have been better with a better first half, but is still a good book.
A great adventure! It doesn't even matter that this is the third in a series and I hadn't read the first two. I admit, at the beginning, some of the references to past adventures were lost on me, but I quickly caught on to it all. Farinn is my favorite character too! All I can tell you is he's 16 and fae. He is a delight, but not heard from much. I do hope later on there will be a book just about him. At the end was a sad part, for like a millisecond, then you get another twist. I love when a book leaves it on a twist, that's how you know there's more to come. I can't wait for that, heck, I may even backtrack for the first two and see what I missed.
Strangely, nothing really happened in this book compared to the previous two. The underwater part was slow, boring, and didn't do anything for me at all. The long parts with Raegar were also more than tedious, I really had to work to get past that part and back to the actual story. I say "story" lightly as it was really just plot cleanup from the previous book and setup for the next book.
Basically this was filler and some transition with a bit of a shock ending that didn't shock me. I'll still go on the next book because the series is good, and it really wasn't an awful book, just not as good as the previous ones.
I have read the first two and could hardly put them down, now that I got this one I couldn't put it down either. I would suggest it to anyone that loves fantasy. you will find action, romance, humor, and more in this series. the authors know how top weave a brilliant tale of intrigue.
I love the series, but I hate when you cann't find any information on the next book in the series. This is the 2nd time to start the series not relizing it wasn't completed. I don't always check the computer before I check them out and start reading them. I would wait until the rest of the series come out before starting this series.
Finished reading " Rage of the Dragon " As with every novel by Weiss/Hickman I have loved it. This is supposed to be a six part series but novels 5 and 6 have been cancelled and #4 is in Limbo. I am hoping that they are able to do the 4th novel...otherwise it will be a sadly unfinished masterpiece.
I think the book was disadvantaged by not starting at the beginning of the series. I just didn't feel very absorbed in the story despite having interesting moments. Might be better if I started with book one, but I'll probably move on to something else...
I didn’t realize this was the third book in the series. I might have enjoyed it more if I had read some of the earlier works. That said its a good, solid story; abet not overly creative.
