Midnight's Tale

Rate this book
He's faced hordes of screaming children intent upon his destruction. He's endured close confinement with a hostile camel. He even narrowly averted being the star attraction in a Satanic ritual sacrifice. Yet, despite handling these crises with aplomb, poor Midnight is ill-prepared for his latest, greatest adventure: a perilous foray into the affairs of the heart. He knows all there is to know of love that a farm can teach - but will it be enough to see the young goat through his darkest and most trying times?

Midnight's Tale is a 12,000-word literary story of life and love in the treacherous, apple-laden world beyond the comforts of the barn.

This book got great reviews, so I decided to try it. The main character and narrator is a goat, weird. I'll let you know how it is when I'm done.

Goats life story through his eyes. A lot of personification that Im not sure you can put on animals reliably

George Berger's literary excursion into the animal kingdom, Midnight's Tale, is both shorter and less narrow in scope than George Orwell's Animal Farm, but proves a bit more entertaining.

Featuring a slight nod to Orwell, Berger does not use his tale to employ animals as lampooned versions of humans, but instead simply tries to portray animal life, with the suggestion of the larger state of the world, through a perspective humans can understand.

The result is at times humorous and at times poignant, but consistently engaging and a worthwhile read. Some time ago, Amazon selected Midnight's Tale for distinction as a Kindle Single, and the reasons for making the book one of their rare fiction offerings becomes apparent by the conclusion of this brief character sketch. Worth the time it takes to read it.

The memory of his beloved Amanda haunts Midnight as he makes his way through this bitter-sweet and poignant tale. As we follow Midnight on his travels, we hear snippets of the wisdom of war horses, and learn what evil smells like. Mr Berger has taken his usual touch to an unusual subject, and will make you feel surprisingly invested in the outcome of events for this likeable goat.

This was a free sample on amazon, thought I would check it out. Didn't realize the whole story was told through the eyes of a goat. I dont think its fair for me to rate this because I am not really into stories like this. I only read a few chapters then had to stop. Just a little weird to me. I think animal lovers may like it?

This Kindle Single is a quick read and a charming story. It has a lot to say, especially since the main character is a little goat. There were several times I laughed out loud reading Midnight's observations. Highly recommended for a quick little change of pace.

I really like this Kindle Single. It is a short sweet story about a goat. Maybe it is not about a goat. You decide.

Like other reviewers, I appreciated this novella's originality, warmth and humor. I found errors in punctuation, typos and grammar distracting, however.

This was magnificent. I had forgotten it was about a goat when I started it and that made it even better.
