Set in a very unusual village, this series introduces a new character and a strong theme that children can recognise in each book. When you want more, but you have all you need, it's Blanka von Frock whose tale you should read.

I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Lovebookstours.

Blanka is the second book in the Curious tales series by D M Mullan.
I love how unique and creative this series is. Each book has a three colour selection which fits with the book - Blanka is pink, white and black.
Blanka is a very demanding and when she wants something it has to be given there and then. When Blanka and her sisters world is turned upside down, Blanka learns the importance of not only being content with what you already have in life but also realises that more enjoyment and fulfillment can be had from helping and supporting others in need around you.
This story is so heartwarming and I loved the rhyming of the story. This book will definitely resonate with many parents and children.

Blanka is part of the Curious Tales series and I really enjoyed it. I loved how unique it was with the colour scheme throughout the book of the lovely shade of pink on the cover , black and white it really made it stand out and was very eye-catching.

In this book we have Blanka... now she is a rather obnoxious child she wants what she wants and she wants it now (something that will be familiar to a lot of people!) But of course she soon realises that you can always have what you want and sometimes have to be content with what you have. It is a moral that everyone should have, and it is done in a fun way.

The story flows with ease throughout the book , it keeps hold of the reader with the excellent colours and beautiful illustrations that marry perfectly with the story. An all round excellent read and one I'd definitely recommend for anyone with young readers!

Blanka Von Frock is an extremely sassy demanding character. Her story is quite sad, made me quite tearful to start. But then her demanding ways and cranky moods made me laugh with how bossy she was. I read this with my daughter and we laughed a bit because I said she was like Blanka.

How mean stealing all the cuddly blankets from all the rest of the kids in the village. Tut tut. I did love how much this book rhymed. As much as I loved Hector I think I definitely have a special spot for Blanka. The illustrations are perfect and so fitting I do love how unique these illustrations are. Especially with the theme being purple/pink. I think purple but others might say pink.

I want what I want and I want it today, is now completely embedded into my brain. Blanka does remind me of someone like Angelica from the rugrats and I used to love the rugrats.

‘My daughter molly thought this was good. Teaches you not to be greed and that everything around you is fine the way it is. And to treat your siblings with respect and kindness and not be such bossy boots. It’s made me think twice how I treat my younger brother’.

Another great story in the Curious Tales collection.
As with Hector, Blanka is set in cerise, white and black so the cerise really pops and let's the amazing illustrations stand out. The illustrator really has an amazing talent and should be commended, it brings reality into the story seeing it all unfold.
The rhyming couplets let the flow move smoothly and quickly.
The tale of Blanka who wants what she wants and wants it right now is something that most parents will be familiar with, the old adage of "I wants don't get" is something that Blanka is not familiar with until her familiar world with her sisters is turned upside down and she realises that being content with what you have and helping others to have more can bring you more joy and happiness.
Another great story!

This is a gorgeously illustrated book but then I do love pink and purple!. I especially loved the map at the start (more books should have maps in my opinion!).

Blanka is found on the streets with nothing to her name. Taken in kindly by the Von Frock family she quickly becomes very spoilt! she enjoys bossing her poor sisters around declaring “I want what I want and I want it today!” (hmm that sounds familiar 😆). Her demands get out of hand and when she finds herself lost it’s her sisters that come to the rescue.

This was a fun read that’s perfect for bedtime. I love rhyming stories and it’s just the right length. There is an important message about being happy with what you have too.

My little reviewer said “I think the duvet might eat her. I think her sisters might of played a trick on her but they save her at the end”.

I will definitely be checking out the first book in this series as well as any future ones.

I was excited to read this as we enjoyed reading another book in this series about Hector Van Groat.

This instalment in the series is all about Blanka Von Frock who has all she needs but always wants more. She spends her days bullying her sisters in their windmill home “I want what I want and I want it today!”

My six year old son was so excited to read another of D.M. Mullan’s tales as Hector has become a favourite story oh his. He couldn’t believe how mean and naughty Blanka is at the start but was glad she learnt her lesson in the end.

I thought this was another wonderful picture book. The illustrations by Kirsteen Harris-Jones are beautiful and I love how they are all purple. Just as I loved how Hector was all blue. The rhyming story is a joy to read and teaches children an important lesson about sharing. We are now intrigued what colourful character we’ll meet in the next curious tale.

After reading Blanka I came to the conclusion that Blanka is a spoilt little brat, she reminds me of Veruca Salt, remember the song, I want it now? Yep, that is exactly how Blanka acts. She has six other sisters but she is the only demanding one out of the seven girls.
The story was short but good, with a great moral at the end. It was written in rhyme and the illustrations by Kirsteen Harris-Jones were lovely, my son loves looking at the pictures to see what’s happening, and what emotion Blanka was feeling in each image.

Although my initial thoughts about Blanka as a child was not good, I did enjoy the story and I am looking forward to reading more D.M. Mullan’s Curious Tales with my son.

After reading and reviewing Hector, when the opportunity arose to read @dm_mullan_author’s next book, Blanka, I had to get in on this action!

Adam (5): I thought Blanka was bad at the start but at the end she was so worried about her family and she was nice to the village. She will never be cold with so many blankets!

Rachel: this was another brilliant instalment! A fabulously illustrated story about greed and the importance of sharing and caring for others who may not be as fortunate. Each of @dm_mullan_author’s books have brought across important messages for children in a fun and relaxed way. I can’t wait to see what the next book is!

Well I think if I told you that as a family we loved this book it would be an understatement!

My children love reading these fun and beautiful illustrated books. We loved Hector but Blanka is equally as amazing!

We love how the story serves a purpose and makes the children reflect and think. But it's just done in such a funny and enjoyable way that it makes reading this book fun for all the family.

I cannot wait to see the next in the series!

My Thoughts
Beautiful illustrations and meaning story that each child what ever age should listens to. This would be a good parents, childcare professionals and first book to read with rhymjng. I loved it and I will promote this. There's more to the series and I know I need to read these. Background in childcare never goes away.

What a fab little book this was. This is the second in the series of D. M. Mullan's Curious Tales; the first being Hector whose illustrations were turquoise & white. Blanka is illustrated through out in cerise & white.

Beautifully written in rhyme this is a cute read that any little girl would love to have on her bookshelf, you know what boys are like when it comes to pink!

It is also a good way to start teaching your child morals, as Blanka finds out you can be happier being kind & helping others in need, without having to be selfish.

Many thanks to Love Books Tours for my tour spot & the publishers for my gifted copy.
