I have come to really enjoy Diane Capri’s work, primarily in another series she has been writing for the last decade. When I stumbled upon Capri’s Michael Flint collection, I was immediately pulled in by the action and unique perspectives offered. Flint is gritty and willing to bend the rules to get results, which is always something alluring in a protagonist. When Flint is approached to help a woman locate her sister, he is prepared, no matter where the investigation leads. What he discovers, after a few brick walls, is truly scandalous and keeps him dodging bullets and accusations. Trying to get to the truth for his client, Flint does everything he can, while uncovering a truly horrid organisation. Capri does well and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat.
Hanna Campbell has come to accept that her life is not quite what she would have hoped. She was detained and kept prisoner in North Korea for a time, a period she is still trying to synthesise. More recently, Hanna’s mother passed away, which crippled her for a time, but it was the loss of her sister that left Hanna feeling utterly empty. When she notices someone who appears to be her sister, Greta, Hanna is flummoxed and sure she is seeing the woman long-thought dead.
Reaching out to Michel Flint, Hanna hopes that he will be able to live up to his hype. Flint stands behind the charge that he can find anyone or anything, in any location. While this may be a large promise, Flint has results to back him up. Hanna begs Flint to find her sister, even if it means proving that she was lost at sea years before, as many have been led to believe.
While Flint is ready to take on the case he will need some help, calling on his friend and colleague, Carlos Gaspar. They begin to work the case, discovering a black-market human organ ring that is being run by ruthless men. One Ernst Hedinger is known to Flint, which only adds to the intrigue. While trying to ascertain the status of Greta Campbell, Flint will have to keep himself one step ahead of the likes of Hedinger or face sure death.
Working with Gaspar and a few other allies, Michael Flint will travel into the eye of the storm to locate the elder Campbell sister. It will not be easy, but Flint has a reputation to keep up and a passion for risk, which will surely take him on adventures that others would never accept. Uncovering the ring is but one task that falls upon Michal Flint, with Greta Campbell’s whereabouts plaguing him at every step. Capri does a fabulous job with this series, keeping Michael Flint front and centre throughout.
I quite enjoy this series and all that Capri has poured into it. While I am used to her Hunt for Reacher books, the Michael Flint collection is much grittier and even more dangerous. The narrative is built on this risky behaviour, but that adds a great sense of excitement that is sure to keep the reader hooked until the final page turn. There have been only three books to date, all of which I have devoured, but am glad to see Capri is prepping another book, which is sure to have new story arcs for the reader to enjoy.
Character development is key to the series’ success. Capri has crafted the Michael Flint character effectively, proving that he can be successful with all the risk-taking that he holds dear. There is still a great deal about Flint that is unknown, but I hope that will change as the series progresses. There is a rich secondary cast as well, all working to advance their own views and perspectives. Those working on both sides of the action emerge, keeping the story flavourful and full of cutthroat action. I can only hope Capri will keep things gritty and on edge, as this is one the great advantages to this series over some of her other work.
The plot is always a key part to a strong novel. Capri has a great deal of experience building strong twists in the story that are sure to impress the reader. The richness of the piece is like few novels i have read recently and there is so much to enjoy. I am eager to see what’s to come with this series, as Michael Flint seem always ready for whatever is tossed in his direction. There is more to come with this protagonist and a series that is sure to keep Capri’s name talked about around many a virtual water-cooler.
Kudos,. Madam Capri, for proving your versatility and keen attention to detail.
A movie just waiting to happen…Action packed, our hero-Michael Flint is at it again, he will steal things, find people who are missing? Or dead?, research an Island and those twists and turns with his health and plot are truly page turners. Enjoy
First time reader of Capri and now a fan. Very entertaining story. Well written and a page turner. I will have to find more of her novels. Looking forward to her The Hunt for Jack Reacher series. This is a Michael Flint book. Flint and his team are high-end PI's out of Texas with operators elsewhere. He is asked to find a woman declared dead four years prior as a favor to a friend. He finds he and his team are in the crosshairs of a powerful man hell bent on stopping them.
I read a lot. I'm a pastor. so much of my reading can be in research and deeply theological. But, I read novels for relaxation. I have about a dozen, instantly recognizable top names I follow. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with all of them. Whenever one of Diane'sbooks comes out, I literally put down the book I'm reading and read through hers. She's that good.
"Ground Truth" starts out with an action sequence that easily rivals every James Bond movie ever made. Michael Flint's patiently awaited return starts our fast and furious and things just escalate from there. There's a cast of familiar characters from the ever-expanding Reacher-verse, most notably Gaspar, Kim Otto's former yet still active partner. He's seamlessly woven into the plot.
The plot! Diane's gift for weaving an incredibly intricate but totally believable plot is spectacularly on display here. There's the hint of a thought-to-be-dead sister, a mysterious boat accident, a heart surgeon in the Caribbean with an elite clientele waiting for new hearts and willing to pay huge amounts to get them, Flint's ongoing lack-of-extended family issues, and a whole lot of unanswered question at the outset. If the sister is dead, why has she apparently shown up in certain videos? The boating accident was tragic but relatively innocent...or was it? Where does the surgeon find the hearts he needs? Can Fllint find his mother? Does he even want to? Why does he struggle with this?
Another of Capri's talents is pulling it all together in a satisfying manner that leaves just enough hanging and unanswered to keep you pining for the next chapter.
I received a prepublication copy of "Grounded Truth" in return for my objective review. I'm not only honored to do this...but excitedly waiting for the next Capri novel!!
Diane Capri has continued her series of adventures featuring Michael Flint, with GROUND TRUTH. Flint is a very bright and adventuresome investigator whose clients seek everything from finding a long lost relative to recovering a stolen object that immense value. In the beginning that’s where we encounter Flint. His objective is to recover a valuable violin being kept in a magnificent fortress owned by one of the richest and most dangerous person, Ernst Hedinger. The amount of preparation and expense it takes to impregnate the structure is unparalleled by other episodes Flint has undertaken. Unbeknownst to Flint, Hedinger becomes the focal point of the rest of the strange and dangerous story that Capri weaves.
Replacement organ surgeries that are contracted by wealthy individuals turns into a lucrative income producer for the surgeon, Philip Reed aka Stephen Brand and his benefactor Ernst Hedinger. It’s this clearly criminal activity that lures Flint and his team into a search for a missing sister of a friend of Alonzo Drake, a close friend and co-worker of Flint.
Let’s just say that the story that is told is crafted beautifully by Diane Capri and leads the reader on a journey that seems absolutely absurd but disgustingly true. Set aside some time for this read because it’s difficult to only read one chapter at a time.
ebook Review – Ground Truth – Diane Capri Author Diane Capri’s Michael Flint series has moved up on my ‘must read’ list with Book 3, “Ground Truth.” Michael Flint, the series’ protagonist – who claims that he can find anyone, anywhere, anytime–dead or alive – is hired by a woman who is stunned to see her long presumed dead sister mingling in a crowd while watching a televised news report. While searching for the missing woman, Flint uncovers a sequence of dreadful murders committed by some very powerful and dangerous men. A fascinating and alluring story around the lucrative business of organ harvesting. Capri pens a plethora of twists and turns equivalent to an amusement park roller coaster in this narrative. Thrilling, Exciting, Dangerous, and Mysterious, Ground Truth is a gripping and engaging read. An ‘attention keeper’ with shadowy wonderment, the story was peculiar, sinister, and cryptic. The characters were well developed, and the ending concluded climatically. I especially liked how Capri included a character from her Hunt for Jack Reacher series in this tale. I liked this ebook and will continue reading the series.
Michael Flint specializes in recovery. Of both people and things. From the first paragraph, Michael is busy recovering and ducking death while he does it. Only the very, very wealthy with incredible security have possession of the things that Michael is hired to recover. A horrendous fire fight and a significant head injury later, Michael hooks up with both his friend Drake, and Carlos Gaspar from the Kim Otto series. And the three of them they are off on another recovery, this time working for a woman who was imprisoned in a North Korean jail for four years. They are looking for her sister who has been dead for four years. Or has she..... As the clues mount, and the pieces of the mystery start coming together, Michael and Drake realize they have been targeted for death by the mastermind behind it all. An excellent mystery with plenty of twists and turns to keep your mind spinning with what, how, who and why. Really looking forward to the next Michael Flint mystery from this terrific author.
I was glad to see a new book in the Michael Flint series. He is one of my favorite characters. Although part of a series, this book can be read as a stand-alone. While recuperating from a head injury recovering a stolen Stradivarius, Flint agrees to help Drake with a case that involves a former college classmate. Hanna has recently been freed from a Korean prison and is suffering from both the prison experience and the remaining effects from the tuberculosis she caught there. She comes home to find that her estranged sister has been declared dead. She happens to see a video of a royal wedding and is sure that she has seen her sister in the crowd. Supposedly her sister and her surgeon brother-in-law had drowned. With the help of Carlos Gaspar (another one of my favorite characters), Drake and Flint seek the truth. As the mystery unraveled, I couldn’t put this book down. As always, the twists and turns the author uses will keep you going!
"Ground Truth" by Diane Capri is a thrilling page-turner. The tale opens with Michael Flint elusively crashing a party at a psychotic evil billionaire's, Ernst Hedinger, mansion in the Alps to recover a stolen Stratovarius. The mission is successful except, while escaping with the prized violin, Flint suffers a concussion. While recovering on the client's yacht, Drake talks Flint into looking for the supposed dead sister of a former college girlfriend, Hanna Campbell. This is triggered by an image from a royal wedding parade that shows a little boy losing a blue baloo while on the shoulders of a man next to a woman who could be the missing sister, Greta Campbell. With the computer skills of Scarlet's employee Gasper, Flint & Drake uncover an organ transplant scheme for the very rich & famous on a private island owned by Hedinger. It's nonstop action with lots of twists. 4 stars.
I read a lot of books and I give most of them a 5 star because I only read books that interest me usually by authors I've read before. Well there are 5 star and then there are 5 STARS! Diane's books are always the later, not only are the characters and storylines good but you just hate to put them down. When a character has a headache I think I should take an asprin!
Michael, Gaspar and Scarlett are all characters we have become familiar with in Diane's Search for Jack Reacher books so you feel very at home with them from the start. An interesting novel that takes you many places in the world. Michaels friend Drake has them search to see if his clients sister is dead or not. Always great to get an advanced book of Diane's to read. Her books always leave you wanting more!
Diane Capri's newest spin-off from her Hunt for Jack's series is ramping up to be even stronger than the original series. Michael Flint will be a legend. The pairing with Drake and Scarlett works extremely well and the storyline is complete with twists and turns to make it hard to put down. I love that a favorite character, Gaspar,is also involved solving problems and adding guidance. Flint and Drake will take the reader on a roller coaster ride while turning the pages to see what is next. A definite keeper. Bring on Hard Money!!
Having been released from 5 years in prison, and finally having more or less recovered from tuberculosis, Hanna Campbell cannot believe it when she just happens to see what looks like her sister in a crowd on TV - the sister who had disappeared and she believed dead. Unfortunately, she is not the only one to see the images and when she asks for the assistance of old friend Drake and his team to check this out, their investigation draws the attention of someone even more deadly. An exciting book and well worth the read
Loved this story about evil people who buy and sell body parts, after first picking out candidates. A married couple died in a boating accident years before...or did they? A cardiothoracic doctor then would perform the transplants demanding payment into millions of dollars. Michael Flint is out to find out if a woman survived her "accident" as her sister believes she's still alive. Great, great story!!
Michael Flint finished a case but not without sustaining some injuries. When he thinks he can recover on a yacht on the ocean he's wrong. Called back home his recovery is interrupted when a friend needs help. What Flint finds among other things is that organ harvesting is a lucrative business which some will pay anything for---even murder.
This was an excellent Flint saga. Gaspar being involved is great. But Brand deserved everything he got. Flint outfoxed Hedinger. After he got rid of his concusion he was right on the scene. 10 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause
A missing couple, a newly-released prisoner and a P.I recovering from his wounds create a complicated set of overlapping storylines, in Diane Capri's third Michael Flint novel, Ground Truth...and you may be sure the eponymous Truth is as raw and gritty as they come.
Flint's client has just returned to the States, only to learn her sister's been declared dead. What lies behind Hanna's mission for Michael? Where's her brother-in-law the surgeon?
Get a copy as soon as you can to find out - and tell all your book-lover friends!
What great entertainment this novel was. Flint and Drake had to find a sister who seems to be still alive after a boating accident. Of course Casper came to the rescue. It was great to have him involved in this caper. It a wonderful read and highly recommended.
