1. This is an informational book about the life of the incredible Abigail Adams. She was wife to the second president, mother to the sixth president, and an all-around amazing person! She influenced American politics, ran the family farm mostly on her own, and was a great businesswoman.

3. History, Literature Circles
4. Students who enjoy learning about American history or cool women in history can greatly benefit from this book.
5/6. I would use this book in a history lesson about First Ladies. I could also use this book in a Literature Circle about influential women in American history.
7. Amelia Earhart: More Than a Flier, John Adams: Speaks for Freedom

Summary: When Abigail Adams was born, women were expected to be just wives and mothers. But Abigail turned out to be so much more. A woman who helped shape the early history of the United States - our nation's second First Lady.

Facts are stated in easy to read sentences that help the storyline flow nicely. I would recommend for 3rd-5th graders do biography or history reports. Also good for those looking for a feminist approach to history as it is told in "her voice." Author does add fluff to make story more enjoyable, so it is not all facts. Illustrations are just ok. Author includes a timeline at back which is handy for quick reference or a summary. Publisher says it is Level 3 Chapter book.

The lack of good solid biographies on famous women for younger readers has probably caused me to over rate this book, but Patricia Lakin has written a solid biography on Abigail Adams, that while not exciting, is not deathly boring. She presents Adams with historical information that will allow the children to understand the restrictions placed on Adams and thus her accomplishments. This is a solid biography that can be used in the classroom. My only suggestion would have been to add other resources at the end of the book to direct children to books on John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and other books addressing the same time in American history.

This is a biography of Abigail Adams and her life during the Revolutionary War, what she believed in and the role she played as the first lady to live in the White houses.

Great for 3rd through 5th graders doing reports
