An updated version of Adams' classic 1993 biography which includes subsequent events such as Benn's leading role in the opposition to the Iraq war and his retirement from the House of Commons after 50 years to 'spend more time on politics.'
Jad Adams is a historian working as an author and an independent television producer. He has specialized in work on radical characters from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and 'the decadence' of the 1890s.
what this book suffers from is that the author neither seems to like Tony Benn very much nor is he particularly sympathetic to his politics. He does not choose to go very deep into his subject, although he does cover the basic details more than adequately. Very easy to read, although one feels the book is a bit short to do justice to its theme
