Susan Robertson was shattered when her husband died of a massive heart attack; the day of the funeral was terrible. But gradually Susan began to learn more about her husband's life while he was married to her. And what she learned sent her into a spiral of depression with sleeping pills and alcohol keeping her numbed to it all. But Susan's best friend Blanche and next door neighbour Jamie could see what was happening and set about giving Susan some tough love. Could Susan be brought out of the quagmire of terrible thoughts, of anger and heartache?

Sailing was in Blanche's blood and the weekend she took Susan with her on her vessel, Sweet Revenge was a small turning point in her life. Meeting Mike at the marina helped Susan break through the barriers, and slowly things changed for her. Would she make it out the other side?

Beyond Betrayal is another beautiful story by Bette Lee Crosby. The courage as Susan moved through the darkest period of her life, flickered. The friendship of both Blanche and Jamie, plus Nina and the others who supported her, and stayed by her side, was exceptional. I love this author's work, and this one was no exception. Highly recommended.

Would you forgive your husband for infidelity?

Susan was devastated when her husband passed away, but as she was cleaning out things she found hidden items that told her he had been having an affair.

She didn’t know for how long but that didn’t matter.

What mattered was that he had betrayed her.

Susan went into a drinking and sleeping pill binge until her friends pulled her out of it and made her realize she needed to move on.

BEYOND BETRAYAL is about forgiveness of yourself, forgiveness of others, and creating and keeping friendships alive.

I thought this book was a bit different from Bette’s others, but still had her same wonderful sentiments and characters.

If you are a Bette Lee Crosby fan, you will love this book.

If you aren’t a fan, what are you waiting for? 4/5

This book was given to me by the author for an honest review.

Bette has a gift for storytelling. Each book is a delight to read, and this one was no different.

Susan has recently lost her husband, but in the process, she uncovers deception on his part. This shatters her confidence, as I would imagine it would most people. This starts her on a downward spiral. Thankfully, she has two wonderful friends that come to her rescue and insert themselves into her life more than normal. These are true friends! This is Susan's journey to rediscovering herself and finding out who she truly is deep down.

What I love about Susan's character is that she is flawed. She isn't the perfect wife, mother, or friend. Yet, this is what makes her relatable to the reader. I had to think about how I would have handled things if I were in her shoes. Would I react the same or differently? How would I handle betrayal?

I think the hidden gem is Nina. She is a 91-year-old parishioner at Susan's church, and the pastor does a little conniving to get them to help one another. I feel like they learned a lot from one another. Nina is a bit of a wild woman, but when you get to that age, you have to know what you want from life and go for it.

The story does have a HEA ending, but it is also a story about finding oneself in the midst of a crisis.

We give this book 5 paws up.

I've read every book Bette Lee Crosby has written. This one was another win for me. This author knows how to capture your heart and take it on a journey. One that will teach you something. This one was about a woman who was betrayed in the worse way. Her heart ripped apart and stomped on a bit.

She's got to learn forgiveness. To forgive Kyle, her deceased husband, and to forgive herself. To move past the heartache she feels this is something she has to do. But it's not easy. She's lost the love of her life and it was after a huge fight. Little does she know the secrets he carried to the grave with him. Can she ever get past the deep betrayal? Can she learn to live again and possibly love? All Susan wants to do is curl up and forget everything and everyone. But her best friend, Blanche and her neighbor Jamie have other plans.

Susan has a long way to go before she can get over the devastation that hit her full force after Kyle died. She thought everything was so good between them. At least that was the way she remembers it. When she finds out about the other woman and the baby on the way she starts seeing things that could have been way different than what she thought. She feels like she needs closure. Answers. A why. She wants to ask Kyle when and what could she have done differently. Reality is she could not have. It was just the way it was not matter what.

Susan has so many great friends who help her through this journey and one that I loved was Nina. She is a ninety-one year old four time widow who needs Susan's help. Susan has no idea how much Nina will change her life. How helping Nina helps her too. Nina is wise. She tells Susan about each of her marriages and the loss of her only son when he was just a young child. How this child's father stepped out on her after that terrible loss. How she felt like it was easier to look the other way than live without him. Susan did not understand and felt her life with Kyle was different. Still, Nina helped her in so many ways.

This book is full of wisdom. Full of love and laughter. Full of heartbreaks too. Learning to move on after losing a spouse or in Nina's case losing four spouses. It's about picking up the pieces and learning to live again. Learning to love yourself. There is a line in a song I heard while reading this that just fit. IF IT WEREN'T FOR SECOND CHANCES WE'D ALL BE ALONE. To me that summed up Susan's life after losing her husband. She has to learn how to forgive. How to forgive no only Kyle but herself too. She had to learn how to love herself. No one can do that for you. She had to learn to be herself again. To be the person she wanted to be. Wanted to love. Without that no one can feel the way you want them too. You have to have these things in order to live a full and healthy life.

This is a story of loss. But it's also the story of forgiveness. The story of loving yourself. Of finding yourself after years of being who someone else wanted you to be. It's a story of finding love again.

This is such a heartfelt story that you will feel it. You'll morn along with Susan. You'll get angry at her along with Blanche. You'll feel afraid for her as did her daughter and neighbor. You will love her as did everyone she touched. Everyone she helped. She's a woman we all can relate to in many ways.

Five huge stars and a very high recommendation from me.

Bette Lee Crosby has put her own heartfelt spin on this story of a woman reeling after the death of her husband. Susan’s husband died unexpectedly, and after a particularly hurtful argument. She is grieving, she’s feeling guilty, and an unexpected discovery leaves her even more devastated. This book is Susan’s story of healing and recovery. There are many pitfalls and stumbles along the way, but old friends, new friends, and family are there to support her—until the time that she can stand up all on her own. Susan’s story is relatable and poignant, and I’m sure tears will be shed by readers as they follow this journey.

Bette’s books always touch my heart and this one definitely did just that. Filled with emotional moments, this awesome story grabbed my attention from the very first page and took me on a heartbreaking journey as we followed Susan learning to live with herself after the sudden loss of her husband. During the first few weeks of loss she also discovers a secret that further breaks her heart and causes her to spiral into deep despair and depression.
As she hits rock bottom, some friends come together to help her and gradually she begins to piece her life back together.
From the depths of her depression, slowly emerges a new Susan, her friends love and support shows her the way forward, and forgiveness allows her to overcome her sadness and allows her a second chance at life, away from the shadow of her cheating husband and the heartbreak he caused her.
It was so uplifting to watch Susan receive the help that she needed to turn her life around, the beautiful friendships that she forged are inspiring to witness. I honestly could not put this gorgeous book down!
Once again I was captured wholeheartedly in this amazing story, Bette knows exactly how to pull on my heartstrings, and it’s another book that I will treasure and remember for a very, very long time. I’m so grateful to have found this wonderful author, whose glorious words fill my heart and imagination with uplifting characters and friendships. I feel blessed to have found such a brilliant author to enjoy.

In my opinion this story is absolutely beautiful. I loved all of the feeling and wisdom the author conveys. So much truth within it I loved it.

When Susan Robertsons husband dies she thinks her heart will break. Firstly due to their last conversation being an argument and later when she comes to a conclusion he was trying to undo the hurt and try harder. She was wrong about so much, skeleton after skeleton tumbles before her and with each revelation she doesn’t think she can take any more.
Beyond helping herself she turns to drink and sleeping pills. Her friends and family try to be supportive but it takes a lot to come back from her discoveries.
Numerous events change Susan’s way of thinking and the person she really is becomes needed in a live or die situation.

I couldn’t wait to read this story at every opportunity, it will stay with me for a long time.

Ever heard of worry wounds? There was a study about the healing of wounds, with students as the subjects: the recovery was faster during summer vacation than during exams! When there’s stress or anxiety, healing can be difficult - physically, emotionally, mentally. Stress and anxiety also cause hurt people to worry and pick at their wounds, be it old or recent.

This story is nothing about physical wounds…it’s all about deep hurts that only time and resolve can heal. The greater the resolve, the shorter the time it will take.

As always, Bette Lee Crosby turned a negative situation into a positive outcome, so full of hope. I deducted a star because she didn’t let us know what happened to Sylvia. I needed that; I’m a chronic wound picker, is why.

Bette Lee Crosby is one of my favorite women's fiction authors because she is so great at bringing me into the pages of her books. She writes characters who are relatable and ones she's able to make connections to the readers with as soon as they open her books. Beyond Betrayal is another one of Ms. Crosby's novels that does this. This story took me into the life of Susan Jean Robertson....and the sudden, surprising events that changed her life.

This book has so much emotion written into it. It was written in such a way that I felt I was a part of the story. Ms. Crosby has a way of drawing the reader into what's happening and experiencing the feelings of the characters. I laughed at parts, cried at parts and felt the joy and also sadness at what Susan was going through. The story told could be what lots of people have experienced in their own lives and how things happen for a reason and why. Ms. Crosby writes such profound passages into the story that the lines jump out and speak to me. Words that I can apply to my life and learn from them. Then she adds emotional passages that burn deep in my heart and make me feel exactly what Susan is feeling. One of the most vivid was when Susan and Blanche are out on a boat and things go very wrong. I felt the fear, anxiety, desperation, and hopelessness. My palms were sweating. What a great author who can bring a physical reaction to her readers.

This is a story of a life that's fallen to pieces and there seems to be no putting it together and no reason to try. Ms. Crosby brings in supporting characters to lift up Susan and give her new hope and reasons to find herself, forgive and love herself Beyond Betrayal.

Bette Lee Crosby is the ulitmate southern fiction storyteller. She takes her readers out onto her virtual covered porch, sitting in comfortable deck chairs, pours an ice cold beverage and begins to spin her stories. I can sit for hours and hours as she takes me into the pages and brings her characters to life. That is what a great storyteller does. And Ms. Crosby is a great storyteller.

All opinions and thoughts in this review are my heartfelt own. TY for such a wonderful book and I loved reading it. Ms. Crosby's stories are so worth every five star and more!

Have I got a book to share with you! Beyond Betrayal by Bette Lee Crosby is a book that will tear your heart out and put it back together again. Maybe a few times while reading her new book. I know I’m late to the game but, let's just blame it on Senior brain. Works for me but, I do apologize for being late.

Susan Robertson is the main character of the book. I could really identify with her as I have been through losing a spouse and having to deal with the loss, doubts, fear and everything that goes with losing someone you have built a life with. Bette created some fabulous characters in this book. I too had a special friend that took care of me in those early days.

I especially loved the parts where Susan was finally able to come to grips with her grief and move on with her life. You never leave that grief behind. You learn to deal with it and you learn that life is for the living and you give yourself permission to explore a new life without that spouse. I understood some of the things Susan grappled with and how she was able to make her decisions. Sometimes, we make decisions that our family and friends don’t agree with but they need to be made.

I was right there rooting for Susan everytime I knew she was making a step in the right direction. I was also rooting for her to put away her crutches and stand up on her own two feet. I was so proud of how strong she became. She learned to rely on herself and not be dependent on the men that came into her life. Women who are approaching retirement or beyond were raised in an era that men were the most important thing in our lives. Some of us learn they are an important part of our lives but, we are just as important. We need to take care of ourselves.

Bette Lee Crosby wrote an important and inspiring book when she wrote Beyond Betrayal. I think this should be a must read for many women. Take my advice and pick up a copy of this book for your reading pleasure. Until next time…Happy Reading!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I have read and loved all of Bette Lee Crosby’s books, however, this one especially grabbed my heart from the beginning and stayed there as I continued to read this beautiful, heartwarming, redemptive story. Although I have turned the last page, the story has stayed with me.

As the years went by and kids grew up and moved away, Susan’s husband Kyle suddenly had numerous business trips and late work nights. He was seldom home. Susan has suspicions of what might be keeping him away, however, turned a blind eye, assuming all would be well again soon. That never happened because Kyle suffered a heart attack and died.

Susan’s life had revolved around caring for her family, and especially Kyle when the kids were older. Now her heart is full of bitterness, anger and unforgiveness to the point she is unable to function. Because Susan refuses to forgive, she is unable to let go of the burden she carries around with her daily as she slowly destroys her life with pills and alcohol. When she stubbles upon a secret that Kyle kept well hidden, it totally changes her world.

Her best friend Blanche and next-door neighbor rally around her and do their best to bring Susan out of the funk she has fallen into. As the story progresses, and situations come up that cause Susan to be strong and when she finally is well enough to reach out to help others, she finds herself on the road to living again. She discovers the unexpected blessing forgiveness brings.

The characters in this story are not only relatable, but well developed as well as delightful and wise. Despite the circumstances around her, it is heartwarming to see how Susan emerges from the dark hole she fell into when she reaches out to others. This is a story each one of us should hold close in our hearts.

Bette Lee Crosby, master storyteller and author of “Beyond Betrayal “ has written a captivating, riveting, and emotional novel that will pull at your heartstrings. I love how Bette Lee Crosby vividly describes the scenery, the dramatic and colorful characters, and the story’s plot. The protagonist of the story, Susan Robertson, is mourning the death of her husband when she discovers that she has been betrayed. Susan’s husband died in the arms of another woman, pregnant with his child. Susan feels despair, pain, and loss when she sees the woman at his graveside. Blanche, a good friend, helps Susan renew a sense of purpose. Susan is forced to fight for their lives in an emergency.

Bette Lee Crosby discusses the importance of friendship, second chances, family, emotional support, self-worth, love, and hope. I loved everything about this novel. I highly recommend this memorable and thought-provoking novel to others.

Beyond Betrayal
By Bette Lee Crosby

This is definitely a story about true friendship. When Susan husband passes at her grief over takes her she could not have gotten through this without her friends. Jamie who is also her neighbor and Blanche. Her best friend would not let her turn to the alcohol and pills to get through this grief.

It wasn’t just a grief of losing her husband. It was the grief of finding out there was another woman. The grief of the last time they spoke they had a terrible argument. The grief of losing herself during her marriage.

Susan decides not to tell her children about the other woman. Would you?
Susan realizes that she has so much to live for. Wonderful friends, a great church congregation, and pastor that stands by her. She finds contentment when she finds a new job.

I found this book to be very well, written, uplifting, and encouraging. I highly recommend this book! And I thank Bette for this ARC.

Master storyteller Bette Lee Crosby once again presents us with an emotional story about friendship, heartache, forgiveness, and second chances at love.

Susan Robertson has just buried her husband, the worst day of her life…or so she thought. Discovering her husband’s betrayal, Susan is angry, bitter and loses the desire to live. Only when she finds herself in a dangerous situation where she must face her greatest fear does she realize she wants to live. When she begins reaching out to others, she finds a new, more satisfying, life for herself.

I could relate to the characters. Susan’s grief, anger, and despair were believable. I loved her best friend Blanche and her next-door neighbor Jamie. Everyone should have friends like them. And, of course, my favorite character was 91-year-old Nina who has been widowed four times. Nina knows how to move on from losses and enjoy life fully.

I highly recommend this highly emotional story to others.

I started this in honor of Bette Lee Crosby as soon as I could. I was swept into the storyline right away. Susan’s husband dies suddenly leaving her heart broken and sorry that they were not in good terms when they last saw each other. When yellow roses turn up at the funeral she his grave she assumes one of her children is leaving until she finds a beautiful stranger at the grave site one morning. Susan’s sadness turns into devastation as the truth unfolds and she becomes a sobering and drunken mess who frankly, I was starting to dislike. Thank goodness for good friends and new friends who see what’s happening. As a wonderful new friendship is made, Susan’s life becomes a series of choices. Can she stop the anger that’s ruining her life or will she move on? If you like the elderly and the richness of their wisdom this book is a delightful read! Well done.

A page turner from Bette Lee Crosby. Another book about the sudden death of a spouse and then discovering his secrets!. Susan's life may have seemed perfect on the outside to her friends and family and the world but she knew there were "cracks" in her marriage which split open upon the sudden death of her husband. Susan needs to unravel the mystery of her husband's death and his secrets. As she sinks into depression and despair, she loses her job, and almost loses her sanity. Fortunately, she has good friends and adult children who rally around her to help her pick up the pieces, understand her own self worth and move forward. As Susan begins to work in an assisted living facility, she develops many new friendships. Susan is able to get out of her comfort zone, grow and find a new true love along the way.
Looking forward to reading more of Bette's books!

How does a widow move forward, especially when she's conflicted about her late husband? Not only must Susan define her new life, she has to cope with discovering that her husband was unfaithful AND fathered a child in his last months on earth. She hits bottom and then claws her way back up, and as she decides to live, and figures out HOW, Susan finds new strength, a new sense of individuality and purpose. The scenes involving her friend Blanche and sailing are especially enjoyable. As Susan heals and grows, we do too, and I highlighted a good many of those passages. This is a very positive novel about later-in-life realities, and the chance for self-renewal. Bette Lee Crosby has written an entertaining story and given us a gift.

Books written by Bette Lee Crosby never disappoint. This book is so well written you can feel the emotions of the characters and that you’re living life right along with them. There was an incident on the ocean in a boat so well described that I felt like I was watching from overhead and praying for safety. Trying to recover from her husband’s death and finding out about his betrayal Susan finds herself sinking into alcohol and pills. Turning herself around was a monumental decision and from there she learned to live by herself and find her real self. I can’t encourage everyone enough to read this book.

Another Tearjerker

Ms Crosby has once again exceeded my expectations in a great book to read. This one speaks of love lost and found again. Yet teaches us at the same time that we must all experience winters of life to reach springs.
Susan was devastated at losing her husband and father of her 2 children. With losing him she lost her self confidence and lust god life. However, along with the support of friends, not family mind you she eventually pulled herself up and began building her own, single life.
What a book to recommend as a reader❤️ It’s just another lesson in life from our Beloved Ms Crosby

If I could give half stars, I would give this one 3 1/2 stars. Even though I was able to read the book quickly because of the writing style, I felt like the characters were unreal at times. At first I thought the main character was just too ridiculous, but then I thought about my own reactions following the death of my husband. I probably made ridiculous remarks and decisions as well. Most of the characters in the book were such that I felt as if I knew them personally. How much would you forgive? Does death end a relationship or does it remain? What makes a real friend? This book atempts to answer these and others.

Once again, Betty Lee Crosby does not let us down! Beyond Betrayal will make you mad, make you sad, make you smile, and make you laugh. Susan uncovered secrets her deceased husband had kept. It made her lose confidence, not trust herself or anyone. This story shows her struggle from the bottom back to the top. I think we’ve all been there in some capacity, and can relate. Bette always puts her heart and soul into all of her stories.
