In a moment of rare heroism, Cree rescued a beautiful blond stray. It was the dumbest move he’s ever made.
A few months back, while tailing someone for his boss, Cree rolled right into a domestic dispute. As someone raised by monsters, he can’t stand idly by while a tiny sprite gets beaten down by a behemoth. When he stepped in, he planned to take care of business and move along. Instead, he walks face first into the greatest love of his life… and the thing that might completely destroy him.
Nebraska’s whole life has been exhausting. When he ends up living with complete strangers, hundreds of miles from home, he should be terrified. Instead, it’s the lightest he’s felt in years. The problem is they’re all killers and generally bad men. He knows he’s not free to leave. Not alive, anyway. Yet Nebraska has never felt safer, and he can’t shake the one heated gaze that follows him everywhere. He’s never been happier. Now all he has to do is survive… and make his surly bodyguard fall in love with him. No pressure.
Fiendish Ways is the fifth book in Charity Parkerson’s Damaged Devils series. These are dark romance stories with crime lords, assassins, and sociopaths who find their hearts. They are best enjoyed when read in order.
Charity Parkerson is an award winning and multi-published author with several companies. Born with no filter from her brain to her mouth, she decided to take this odd quirk and insert it in her characters.
*Eight-time winner of Readers' Favorite Awards *2014 Golden Ankh nominee *2013 Readers' Favorite Award Winner *2013 Reviewers' Choice Award Winner *2012 ARRA Finalist for Favorite Paranormal Romance *Five-time winner of The Mistress of the Darkpath
I'm giving this book top marks for the way the dark stuff was handled. I'll give it to Charity Parkerson for not shying away from the path she chose to write. And they all went to therapy and lived happily ever after 🙃 This is fiction and as such I can accept what otherwise would be red flags and gaslighting and B.S. "I'm sorry, I'll do better" but in this context of dark romance I get it. Stories are not 'how to' books and trigger warnings not taken lightly. These are all damaged men and do not act with 'normal' societal standards.
*Fixating and bonding with your savior. Hurt/comfort. Cree saved Nebraska from an abusive father and kept him. And they fell in love. Until Cree destroyed them. ....Aaaand, I am in shock. Omfg
Redemption is going to be tough on this one. Red flags and extenuating circumstances and of course, the basis of this series is the only reason I'll forgive Cree. At the same time, somewhere in the back deepest part of my brain he's going to be burning for eternity. But, as long as Nebraska is sure and happy, I'll let it go.
this is so fucking disgusting man, literally he was raped for the man who he loves and then he just forgive him?? nah, thats just romantizing be rape who is a actually really disgusting thing, not something cool for writte about and take it like nothing important

Cree was on a job tailing someone when he came across a domestic dispute and so he stepped in and rescued Nebraska who will end up being his true love and the only man who could break him. While Nebraska knows he is not free to leave the strangers he ends up living with he cannot escape Crees's heated gaze that follows him everywhere. Now all he has to do is survive… and make his surly bodyguard fall in love with him. No pressure.
I enjoyed this story with the tough men who all lived on Archer's estate and worked as bodyguards and assassins who took Nebraska and made him part of their dysfunctional family. Cree was definitely a tortured soul and he was fortunate that Nebraska loved him so much as his jealous reaction would have finished off their association for most people. This was definitely a dark story with love and passion at the heart of it. Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.
Fiendish Ways # 5 I’m having trouble finding the correct way to review. It was the darkest in this series so far for me. Cree, 40s, big, burly bodyguard who works for Archer. Nebraska, is 19-20, slim and short with blonde curly hair, a young computer hacker. He’s had a hard time life. Cree removes Nebraska’s problem, and brings him home to Angel and Archer’s house. Cree helps the kid with his Crohn’s disease, they are kind to each other, Nebraska, a virgin isn’t ready for much at first. Each has a lot of baggage, truths are told, and inner rage erupts. When Cree crosses a line…. we are outraged. We are in a rage now ! Angel helps Nebraska hide out and it helps greatly. Cree’s name is mud, therapy is introduced and helpful. But I am still upset with the HFN.
We learn a bit about King, as he is in the next book, #6. I’ll keep going in this series.
Oof. I’m so conflicted about Cree. I want to love him so much, but jeez, he’s so awful sometimes. The way he treated Nebraska was just…ugh, horrible. I mean, there was some niceness too, but he made me so mad.
Nebraska is a darling little cinnamon roll and must be protected at all costs. He is sweet and innocent in all the ways that count. I loved him and Cree together until Cree got all in his head and took his past out on Nebraska. And poor King had to pay for Cree’s failure. Ugh.
I think that’s actually one of the things I like about Parkerson’s writing. She certainly evokes emotion. Sometimes it’s anger, but either way, I’m not mad the book made me feel something. King better get himself a good man who appreciates him. That’s all I’ll say about that.
Everytime I think I have a favourite couple another one comes along, but Cree and Nebraska were everyting. Cree is broken but the degree is revealed in this book. Nebraska never had a good life but finally he had a life and somebody to love but in a fit of rage that his new found family is taken away from him and the one person he thought saved him hurt him like no other. This book is more emotionally charged than the rest. If you enjoy dubious characters, damged people healed by love and some steamy times then this book and series is a must read.
Novella. I think? There aren't any page numbers. Somehow this author tells one hell of a short story. My usual concerns with fast burn don't apply to her books. All of these books are violent and unhinged. This is the first time it's felt truly dark. Like when things go bad they get maybe unforgivably dark. I'm not terribly forgiving of book characters so I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Although to be fair - we've got the worst transgression tempered by the fact that it's the first time any of the characters have started therapy.
I found myself gasping and crying after reading how badly Cree had treated Nebraska. I had to keep repeating to myself; it’s not real, it’s not real, it’s just a story, but Damn! This was one Hell of a story! I haven’t slept because I couldn’t put the book down and I have a doctor’s appointment in a couple of hours, but I just had to know what was going to happen next.
Despite the rating, I had a rough time with this story. Structure wise, It was good. The plot was solid, and I was invested in the characters. That was probably why it got to me so badly emotionally. King and Nebraska get such a crap deal as far as their friendship goes, where Cree's relationships are all peaches and cream. That double standard was a little triggering. I hated the bogus deal King got.
Could be good but honestly it moved too fast, the author needed to slow things down. It read more like a draft with no real depth to the story. Almost like someone was doing a thorough summarization of the full story. Plus gotta admit I’m not down for how easily Nebraska forgave Cree for raping him, even going so far as to say he could see how he played a part in it.
Older man who saves a younger man can't believe that same young man could love a damaged man. Both men have a past filled with hurt and pain. Jealousy almost destroyed everything they have built.
Honestly i really liked the book but the age gap was a big deal for me so i can’t put 5 stars even if it deserves it. The age gap just made it kinda hard for me
