Murders, mysteries and the paranormal….something is wrong with Building 11…or is it the tenants?
Not being a big fan of haunting and possession-based stories, I was skeptical going into this. However, I quite enjoyed it all. Danielle Naibert kept a very simple style of writing and even the premise was fairly straightforward, never falling into the trap of overcomplicating an already strong premise. It did a pretty decent dive into the cultural lore a bit, which I liked being educated on, but it also didn't take it to a point where it dragged and got boring. Everything was kept short and sweet, which I fully appreciated. The ending had a bit of a nice twist, which I had my suspicions on, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Now, there was one section that felt like a bit of an information dump, but after the remainder of the story played out, things were clarified and it all found a smoother path. And I wanted to know our leads, Bong Seon and Yi Jun, a bit further, as both were interesting characters. But the whole experience was very positive, palatable, and yielded a ton of really great atmospheric instances, too. This is my first read from Danielle Naibert, but I'm eager to see what else she has created.
