The Complete Sea Kayaker’s Handbook is a comprehensive guide to the full sea kayaking spectrum, bringing a fresh approach and a dynamic voice to the subject. Author of the critically acclaimed Sea A Woman’s Guide, Shelley Johnson covers all the bases for beginning to advanced sea kayakers. It’s all here, from selecting the right kayak and gear to preparing and making an extended tour, mastering the strokes, rolls, and exit techniques; navigating; and much more.
This was a great book that covered all the items I wanted to know about for beginner kayaking and all the specific questions I had. Even though the title is for sea kayaking I got the book for flatwater sit on top kayaking and feel it still covered everything I needed to know to begin.
The book is well laid out with clear explainations. It covers everything from purchasing a kayak, basic techniques, weather, navigation, and even trip planning and travelling with others.
Fantastic guide for someone looking to learn the ins and outs of sea kayaking. I got this book when I started working as a Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide and it is truly excellent!
The author breaks down the basics and builds up to more advanced knowledge and skills. The explanations are clear, the illustrations very helpful. I highly recommend it!
