Absolutely charming little book. I enjoyed everything about it from the layout, to the choice of paper, to the selected journal entries and, of course, the entries themselves. Gilbert White captures the Art-of-Being-Present, the charm and peace, along with, the trials and tribulations of countryside living with every journal entry. It's a pity that I'm the first to rate and review this book and that it isn't more well-known or popular. Not a must-read, but a lovely addition to any nature lover's library. Will definitely be revisiting.
Charming to say the least. The imagery and humour together are a sound pair as it is, but the wonderful natural observations are no doubt that of a truly respectable naturalist. It wasn’t a heavy read either, akin to Sand County Almanac without the philosophical verbatim. A wholly delightful and easy read.
