Even after a year of having an earl for a lover, Dominick still isn’t prepared for the dazzling high society of Bath with its ruinous gossip and scandalous fashions. All he wants is to uncover who his parents are so he and Alfie can return to their quiet life in Scotland. But as long-buried secrets come to light, Dominick finds himself trapped in a web of intrigue that may prove impossible to escape.
When an old acquaintance winds up dead, it’s almost a relief. With a murder to solve, Alfie and Dominick have a distraction from the jaws of fate slowly closing around them. Assuming, of course, that they can avoid being murdered themselves.
Alfie knows how much learning the truth about his family means to Dominick, but as events begin to spin out of control, it soon becomes clear that knowledge may come with a terrible cost—their happiness, their relationship, and even their lives.
His Lordship’s Blood is the fourth novel in the His Lordship’s Mysteries series.
I always enjoy spending time with Alfie and Dominick and this book was no exception. SoRelle created another great cast of characters and an engaging mystery in a well-rendered historical setting. Her books feel grounded in historical reality and I love how many real locations she uses because it’s fun looking for pictures of them.
The balance of romance and mystery was pretty good – Alfie and Nick’s relationship didn’t advance too much, but they’re also at a pretty solid point in their relationship and I appreciated that SoRelle didn’t manufacture a crisis just to put them at odds. Having them deal with external circumstances was enough.
The only thing I didn’t love was the ending, which wrapped things up a bit too neatly and quickly. The solution to the mystery was clever, I just wish the characters could have caught the murderer in a more realistic-feeling way.
I absolutely adore this pair and this world setting that Samantha has created.
This one expands our horizons with a trip to Bath to continue the search for more information about Nick's background and his parentage following the recognition of his pewter ring by a French maid in London.
Of course, with these two, it's not long before they're embroiled in trouble - a possible poisoning at the Pump House and Alfie's in danger too! As things become ever more complicated, it also conspires there's a link to Nick's past here among the people they've met.
There's not much time for romance between the sheets here, but Alfie and Nick make sure to grab as much alone time as they can get away with to reassure each other that their feelings haven't changed and it's super sweet.
The plot itself intrigued me, it's based - as have all the previous books - on a mixture of historical events and Sam's own imagination to connect Alfie and Nick to the situation and I thought it worked very well.
Each time I've read one of these mysteries I've found myself lost in the world that's been created and here is no different. We do get to find out about Nick's mysterious past, but I'm obviously not letting you in on that secret, you'll have to read it yourself and find out!
I hope Sam keeps going with this pair, they're a joy as a couple but I also love their detective skills too!

Alfie sighed. “For God's sake, I'd appreciate it if we could go an entire month without someone trying to kill one of us.”
I love this couple. I have not really been satisfied in the mysteries in this series yet but Alfie and Nick are beautiful together. And fun! They quip and tease and lust, and then they're also very heartfelt and kind too. Just lovely.
But back to the mystery aspect: on earlier books I definitely enjoyed some parts but didn't really feel the guys did much else than fumble around being mostly useless. Now, in this book for the first time I felt the mystery was actually built up pretty well. But I still didn't enjoy it very much, because there were several things that made me very uncomfortable.
A certain Miss is truly obnoxiously harassing the men and even crossing the line to sexual assault in some cases. While I appreciate that she wasn't painted as a purely villainous character just to be hated, it was just so hard to read about her pawing every eligible man. It was sad for her, sad for the men and sad for the whole society.
Another thing is that I never wanted either of the men to have any kind of "noble blood". I loved that Alfie is a fake earl. So I was annoyed, tbh. Piss off with your noble lines, please. Not to mention the anxiety this created for the future of our lovely couple!
But the lovely ending made up for it, and I'm back to 4 stars.
The amazing history, the twists, turns, and the romance that SoRelle persists in writing into this series will never not surprise me! Four books in, and I'm still utterly hooked. Alfie and Dominick are close to my heart, painfully in love, utterly precious, and I could happily read 100 books about them and their lives and adventures. The plots in this one are shocking and exciting in the best ways with a return of characters we know and an introduction of several we don't as Dominick persues his heritage and discovers some incredible possibilities along the way.
Don't miss this one. It's so good. I can't wait for book 5, but in the meantime, I'm excited to finally pick up The Gentleman's Gentleman about Jarret and Gil Charleton's story!!
In theory I think this was supposed to be the least stressful book of this series but I absolutely disagree. I spent this entire novel TENSE. In previous books it was always external factors that were threatening the peace between Alfie and Dominick (and truly, didn’t concern me all that much because these two are way too in love to let things outside of themselves disrupt them), but this one was personal and was admittedly worried about the outcome (I’ve grown very fond of the haunted Scotland home).
I’m really happy I found this series and I’m looking forward to future adventures with these two!
This series is my favorite historical romance of all time and this newest installment brought so much to Nick’s past and growth. I adore seeing the two support each other with so much love and respect. I fear the day the series end for good but overjoyed to see that their adventures will be continuing!

Navigating relatively seamlessly between a murder mystery and an origin-tale, this latest of a historical M-M romance series proved diverting and is easily better than the previous installment. Nick and Alfie have always been endearing and their banter, dynamic and loyalty to each other make me just adore them more; can't wait for their adventures in their next book.
HIS LORDSHIP'S BLOOD is the fourth book in His Lordship's Mysteries and, for me, has been the best of the bunch so far. Why? I'm not entirely sure as I've thoroughly enjoyed all of them. This one, though? A certain je ne sais quoi that pushed this one to 5-stars.
Alfie and Nick head to Bath rather than to Balcarres to see if they can find out more about Nick's parentage. What they find is rather more than expected, plus a whole host of characters to entertain. Some of them are already known to us but most are not.
The private times between Alfie and Nick are few and far between in this one but, when they do get the chance, it confirms again just how strong to each other their bond is.
I can't say I was surprised by 'whodunnit' being how the weapon has been categorised throughout history but, I was kept on tenterhooks with Nick's choice. And the ending? That "Well..." from Nick was absolutely perfect and I completely relate with Alfie.
I would absolutely recommend this book to be read as part of a series, just so you know how hard Alfie and Nick have fought for each other. I can't wait to continue their story but I certainly hope they have time Balcarres before their next adventure. I think these two need some alone time after everything they've been through! ** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

Heat Factor: There’s a lot of wanting to get it on but very few actual opportunities to do so
Character Chemistry: They’re already a couple in this book, so chemistry is not really the focus
Plot: Alfie and Nick head to Bath to try to figure out Nick’s parentage. Also, murders.
Overall: I had fun reading, but it’s a romantic mystery, not exactly a romance
I think, when all is said and done, if you are a reader of historical romance who also likes an adventurous mystery, then this series is probably something you should try.

Fourth in series (His Lordship’s Mysteries), must be read in order. Historical mystery. Established couple. Traveling to Bath, Alfie and Nick are searching for answers to Nick’s past and of course run into a another murder mystery. This adventure includes a new set of secondary characters, a run in with some familiar past associates, and Nick’s discovering his parentage which may make him choose between duty and love. As ever, Alfie and Nick are fully committed to each other, their relationship unshakable, and the outside pressures although seemingly impossible to overcome cannot break their forever bond. This series and its couple is a favorite of mine, the writing is fantastic, the characters compelling, the historical setting realistic, and the mysteries are always entertaining. I will read everything and anything that includes Alfie and Nick, their special connection is full of all the love and romance.
His Lordship’s Blood is the fourth in the His Lordship’s Mysteries series and these really need to be read in order to fully appreciate the romance between Nick and Alfie and all they have endured. Unfortunately, I felt this was weaker than others in the series and I was slightly frustrated at times by some of the plot choices. But, despite this, the relationship between Nick and Alfie remains the primary focus of the novel and their love for one another is why they continue to be one of my favorite fictional couples.
This is the fourth book in the His Lordship's series, but I must admit that it's the first one of this series that I've read. However, I liked this book so much that now I want to go back and read the others, to get more of the feel of the story of Nick and Alfie, and I'd also like to read other stories written by this same author. This book doesn't end on a cliffhanger-- the murder mystery ties up neatly at the end --but there is an underlying continuing story from book to book. I love murder mysteries (I've read every single Agatha Christie book) and I love MM romances, so this book for me is a fantastic combination of my two favorite genres. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
I was happy for another Dominick and Alfie adventure and this one was a lot of fun. We catch up with the pair as they arrive in Bath, following a clue that they hope will lead them to Dominick's birth family. Unfortunately, a mysterious death occurs right before their eyes, and their relaxing getaway becomes anything but. SoRelle does a good job keeping up the banter, as well as the heat, between these two, and the mystery is fun to unravel. A good installment in this series! I can't wait to see what these two get up to next...
“Alfie and Dominick will return.” I’ve never been so grateful to see those words at the end of a book. I’m so in love with these two characters and their love for one another. From London to Scotland to Bath, SoRelle does an incredible job taking us from one setting to the next and adding layer after layer to the continuing story of Alfie and Dominick. I cannot wait to see where they end up next and will continue to return to their story as long as she chooses to continue writing them! Absolutely now a customer for life!
And so concludes the next adventure with Alfie and Dominick, a rollicking, twisting plot that is so far away from anything you'd expect, mind blowing actually. But, as with the previous tales with these two, it's wonderful, sexy, and intense, I'm already looking forward to the next adventure. Also, that moment they whispered their undying love for each other when it looked like Alfie was going to die made my heart melt.
Following on from the last book, our heroes are in Bath looking for Dominick's parentage. They start off getting dragged into a murder or 2 and then a dinner party leads to a revelation about Nick's mother. A few twists and turns along the way. An enjoyable instalment.
I have loved every single one of these stories and am hungry for more! I also wouldn't mind a spinoff with Dr. Mullins and his mysterious colleague/friend.
Another eventful and fun romp for Alfie and Dominick but this time in Bath. Great references to the aftermath of the French Revolution and a whole cast of interesting and zany characters. A joy to read and can't wait for the next adventure.
More shenanigans with Alfie and Nick, this time Nick is in the spotlight as he tracks down leads to his own family history. The duo are in Bath, where murders are happening very close to the men. But who and why. And will Nick take up his rightful place - or not.
This is one of my favourite historical MM romance series but this might have been my least favourite story so far. While the ending ties it up nicely, I thought the plot was a little too far fetched. The fact that these two men always find themselves in these intense mysteries despite them not being in law enforcement and just wanting to sit at home in front of the fire is getting a little ridiculous. SoRelle's writing always captures me but I felt myself waning a bit here; I think I might be a little bored with Dominick and Alfie as characters and would like SoRelle to branch out a bit. However, since I still loved the writing and the plot was engaging even if over the top, I would still recommend to lovers of the genre.
