What is going to happen during the Super Flower Blood Moon and who is the Wendigo? This time, Langdon might be too late to solve these mysteries before the blood flows…
MATT COST writes the Mainely Mystery and the Clay Wolfe/Port Essex Mystery Series. He’s also written several books of historical fiction. This is his first jaunt in combining his two loves of histories and mysteries into a historical PI mystery. Cost was a history major at Trinity College. He owned a mystery bookstore, a video store, and a gym, before serving a ten-year sentence as a junior high school teacher. In 2014 he was released and began writing. And that’s what he does. He writes histories and mysteries. Cost now lives in Brunswick, Maine, with his wife, Harper. There are four grown children: Brittany, Pearson, Miranda, and Ryan. A chocolate Lab and a basset hound round out the mix. He now spends his days at the computer, writing.
In this fifth book, Langdon is hired to find a man who answered an advert - then disappeared. When a second person disappears, it all becomes that bit more serious. When Langdon, his wife Chabal and their usual motley crew of friends are chewing it over, Jewell raises the question of it being something to do with the Super Flower Blood Moon. She doesn't realise just how close to the truth she is . . .
Each and every one of this series has been very different - but none more so than this one. Very appropriate that 'wicked' is in the title as I couldn't think of a better way to describe this story! Gripping and riveting from the word go, I once again found myself reading long after I should have had my head on the pillow and in the land of dreams. Full of suspense, this is another cracking read from Matt Cost. Definitely a series well worth reading and, as such, easily deserving of all five sparkling stars and my highest recommendation.
Ed Sheehan’s review of the novel Mainely Wicked by Matt Cost
Matt Cost’s novel, Mainely Wicked is well named because it is about some very wicked people and the setting is in the state of Maine, which explains the spelling of Mainely. What can I say other than WOW! I have reviewed another Matt Cost novel in his Mainely series. The protagonists are still the private investigator Goff Langdon and his incredible wife and business partner Chabal. Their business specializes in finding missing persons.
The forward in the novel starts with a shocking story of a man named Liam who is abducted, and Goff is hired by Liam’s brother to find him. Weeks later, a woman named Annie Brown is abducted by the same evil satanic group. Annie Brown is an amazing character and her viewpoint and interaction with her abductors is beautifully created by the author. The other most amazing character is Langdon’s wife Chabal who enters the fray fearlessly. So, the novel will be loved by men and women, and it also delves into the genres of the occult, mystery, suspense, action/thriller, and romance. Again, WOW!
This novel is beautifully written, expertly edited, and should reach the top of the charts. I rate it five out of five stars.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I have read other books by this author but none of the Goff Langdon Mainely Mysteries, of which this is the fifth instalment. It reads well as a standalone, anything the reader needs to know is flagged way in advance.
Goff Langdon is a fifty-something, part time PI & bookstore owner. He & his wife, Chabal, together with a rag tag group of friends & acquaintances, tend to get drawn into whatever Langdon is hired to investigate. In this case, a man disappears after answering a classified ad. This was the opening of the book & was chilling in its simplistic but pragmatic description. Later, a woman also goes missing having been on a date through an online site. Langdon is hired for both.
If satanic worship & the wendigo myth are not your thing then this book might not be for you but, that being said, it is only in maybe the last 10% that it goes full ‘devil’ mode. A worthy 4⭐️ for an aptly titled story.
Mainly Wicked is the latest in the Goff Langdon mystery series. marie PI and bookstore owner Goff Langdon is on the case yet again, along with his wife Chabal , and their friends, cop Bart and lawyer. This time there looking into a man who went missing after answering an ad. It leads to a cult. It was great to read as usual. Love the characters in this series.
Langdon’s sidekick, Annie, is missing and he is intent on finding her. His investigation turns up a devil worship group call Wendigo. The group gathers young women for his sustenance. Langdon is intent upon getting Annie back but is thwarted by the Devil’s followers.
Langdon’s wife Chabal accompanies him in this quest. Investigating the “Wendigo Grotto of Satan” is pretty freaky. Can this intrepid duo find Annie in time?
This story is well out of my comfort zone and I found it distressing. Apparently a nod to the 600,000 who go missing every year, there were scenes and descriptions of practice that I found difficult to read. Devil worship is simply not my thing. An unusual departure from the books I’ve read by this author before, this will be a one-off for me. You may enjoy it if you are a fan of the genre or familiar with the legend of the Wendigo. 3.5 stars CE Williams
Many thanks to the author for providing me with the opportunity to read and review this book.
MAINELY WICKED is the fifth instalment in Matt Cost’s contemporary, adult GOFF LANGDON MAINELY MYSTERIES mystery/suspense series focusing on fifty something, part time private investigator and book store owner Goff Langdon.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise there WILL be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from several omniscient third person perspectives MAINELY WICKED follows the search for a missing man, followed by the disappearance of a young woman. Goff Langdon is a part time private investigator and has been hired by the brother of the missing man, and the best friend and co-worker of the missing woman. Both have disappeared after having answered ads in a local paper-one hoping to purchase an ATV, the other hoping to find love on a dating website but as Goff and his wife Chabal begin their investigation they will discover a possible connection to a group calling themselves the Church of Satan, whose leader is the self-proclaimed Wendigo, in need of human flesh. As the investigation begins to reveal a dark and dangerous connection to the past, a friend will lose their life, others will be attacked and Goff’s beloved is abducted for the sacrifice on the Super Flower Blood Moon.
MAINELY WICKED is an edgy, dramatic, thought-provoking and cautionary tale of myth and madness, desperation and beliefs, power and control, murder and mayhem. The premise is dark, twisted, haunting and tragic; the characters are desperate and determined . People are desperate to believe; to have faith in something other than themselves; possessed by desolation and misery, they will cling to a system that will destroy them all.
Matt Cost writes a mysterious tale with Mainely Wicked
Mainely Wicked is part of the Goff Langdon Mainely Mystery Series, and this is volume five. I am a big fan of Matt Cost and read whatever this author writes. This author has a grand imagination, and talent for showing the story. I've read the stories that came before this one, and it is another great story about Langdon and his PI business, and another interesting case comes across his desk. After reading the stories that came before this one, you can see how the character grows, but yet he also maintains his relaxed personality, and loves his life. This new case starts out as a missing person's case, but it grows from there as Langdon digs a bit deeper. It's a very interesting read, and I think it's one of my favorites of this series. A wonderous trail of words. Both thrilling and intriguing, all the way to the end. This book has a gripping and incredible storyline, as well as a grand cast of characters, that all play a role in the case at hand. It is always an honor to read Matt Cost's books. Some of the pages, you end up reading slower than others, so not to miss anything. Mainely Wicked is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Amy's Bookshelf Reviews recommends that anyone who reads this book, to also write a review.
Goff and company are back, and this time there's a hint of the supernatural around the mystery. Unfortunately, this time, things strike a little too close to home when Goff's wife is swept up in the disappearances. While definitely off the beaten path for this series, I liked the new twist. (It's important to remember that this is fiction, and the practices of the worshipers of the Wendigo do not reflect all pagans/witches/wiccans/satanists, just as fringe cults don't reflect all of Christianity). I enjoyed following along with Goff as he races against the clock to find the missing people and save them from an uncertain fate at the hands of a madman. I highly recommend reading the earlier books first so you can get a better grasp of just how complex the characters are, but I don't think you'd be entirely lost jumping in here. Another great mystery penned by Cost!
I received n ARC through "Booksirens" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This story begins with Langdon being hired to find an individual's brother who had gobe missing after answering an ad for an ATV. There had been no sighting of him and the police put the case on the back burner. Shortly after, Langdon was hired to find another missing person who had disappeared after she was to meet up with a blind daye that she arranged through a dating app.
Things took a major turn once a friend of Landon's was stabbed and another one was killed.
As Langdon got closer to finding Annie, the missing women, it got more dangerous for both him and his wife Chabal.
To discover what connection the two people taken had, what the purpose of their abduction, who was responsible and how it all ended, then you need to read this book.
This is book 5 in The Goff Langdon Mainely Mystery Series and I have really enjoyed them all. In this story we see Goff Langdon helps to find a man who has disappeared after answering a classified ad. It might seem simple enough but then another person goes missing and it is up to Langdon to find out what is going on before it is too late. As soon as I had read the first page I knew I didn't want to stop reading, it is fast paced and has some really unique and interesting characters. This one I felt was a little darker than the previous ones as this one contains witches, wendigos and wiccans but it made it more edge of the seat stuff. A brilliant and engaging read.
Langdon is hired to find a man who is missing after answering an ad for an ATV.
A woman is missing after answering a dating ad! What in the world is going on?? Then Langdon's wife is missing too. My heart dropped to my feet when I discovered what was going on. This is cultish and sick. Can Langdon find his wife before the ritual?? This story actually made the bile rise up my throat. It turns my stomach just writing this.
This story is raw, gripping, and intense. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
Mainely Wicked is the 5th installment in the Goff Langdon Mainely Mystery series by Matt Cost.
I really like the protagonist Goff Langdon, a part time private investigator. He is hired to locate a man that answered an ad in the paper and then went missing. A woman has also gone missing.
Goff and his wife Chabal start investigating, and things take an unexpected turn. They research and discover there may be a connection to the Church of Satan and the leader who claims to be a Wendigo. The Wendigo is in need of human snacks.!
OH HOW I LOVED THIS STORY! I have read many stories about Wendigo's and the author put such a unique twist on Goff's mystery.
The story was perfectly paced, yet so exciting and well written. The story is so complex with incredible underlying themes.
The characters are well written, complex, and fleshed out.
Again, I love the Wendigo story line, it was written in such a believable way.
Highly recommend this story and the entire series!
