A desert reborn. An unwanted crown. Ancient terror surfacing. Felix and his people foiled the Hierocracy’s dire plans, freeing the Territory of Ahkestria and unleashing an ocean upon its sands in the process. Now he must reckon with the newfound political power in his hands, meddlesome nobility, and the Boon of a Primordial that has enacted changes on his very being. There’s one major difference this Felix is not the only one affected. His friends must learn to handle their sudden, intense gains while creatures from the deep—moved by a malevolent force known only as the Fathom—assault the city. Danger rises as the depths make their not-so-shallow moves. Felix has to deal with the consequences of his actions, which might cost him dearly. The only thing that would cost more? Doing nothing and hoping someone else would clean up his mess.
I was bored by chunks of this book. Mostly the training and meditation. I just knew that somebody would end up with a stupid dragon companion. Still stupidly overpowered and getting even stronger. Not much loot collected or city building done. The MC has two territories and has done almost nothing to build up either of them. Keeps having his soldiers killed but doesn't really have a way to get more population, except for smallish bands that swear to his banner. He needs more people. Fighting is decent I guess. Personally I'd like more loot and city building. Even if he can't use the loot he could give it to his people. They didn't collect the Naga treasures, that would have been a lot of loot. Maybe in book eight.
6/10 Doesn't matter how strong the MC is if his territory stays at level two.
The author is still struggling with power balance. Firstly how is it that the MC is winning will checks with primordials, gods, and dragons? Even with his title it makes no sense. He literally struggles more with people in the master tier then he does with fundamental beings of reality. His wins don’t come off as genuine, they literally seem to come purely to move forward the plot. How is everyone keeping up and or catching up to him with levels. He has absorbed not just potent mana and essence but a insane amount of it. There is no way his peers even with links should be anywhere near his level. They haven’t absorbed gods. 7 books in and the MC has yet to truly make intentional moves for his build. It’s all reactionary the just happens to work out. The books have lost any credibility because it just all aligns and works out despite him being wholly unprepared. Plot armor is real with this one.
Does the leader of the Hierocracy really not know what Felix is? Or is this somehow a deeper machination on her part to put Felix in a position she thinks she can manipulate? And what would the Hierocracy have done if the Maw had won out?
I loved that Felix chose both mercy and trustworthiness through this book. He swore to keep his promises to the Naga, and through everything that occurred, he upheld his word.
This series has definitely developed into one of my favorites. The core team is bonded and has each other's backs, which is key for my series enjoyment.
4.5 stars. It loses a virtual star for getting bogged down in mechanics of soul spaces, but other than that it flowed well and held my attention. Good forward impetus to the story (eventually; it is over 1000 pages), so I look forward to the next one.
A fine book but there are some points where it really drags. This was almost a DNF and I had it sitting around for a few months before coming back to finish it. I love long books, but there comes a point where it feels like the author is dragging it out just to meet a page count.
I felt there was more balance in the last book. This series has pretty much been non-stop action which isn't a compliment. I felt the series was getting better in the last book. There was more world building, more relationships. While there still were fight with insane odds, it wasn't non-stop. There has to be a buildup and release of tension. This book I felt the author went back to the same formula of continuous over the top fighting against insane odds. Felix now has 2 territories and there was basically zero town/city building. Felix has to fight 2-3 impossible battles at the same time.
This book started out with such a slow burn, I actually wondered if I was in the same series, (I was.) 😆!!! But, really soooooooo much actually happens even in the slow spots, as Felix learns so much more about his core. Although once the story gets it's legs, it takes off running, becoming the book I expected. As Felix is tasked with two challenges. One to save the city of Haarwatch, and the other to save the Naga from their bitterest enemy, The Fathom. What can Felix do? Well he has'ta split the team 🤔 that's all there is to it. And it's quite possibly his smartest and possibly dumbest idea yet. But the real champion is Pit! Felix's beast chimera. And Pit always has his back. Pit who's suffering beyond all reckoning, took on the responsibility of rebuilding, tempering Felix's core, finishing it as Felix is busy with other business! How could Nicoli Gonnella do that and I've been worrying about Pit ever since! So much so that I hafta dive into the next book. Now! Travis Baldree is one of my favorite narrators and I'll happily listen to him anytime he's narrating a book!
Ohhhh and here's a couple quotes that amused me:
"Somehow, despite having a beak, Pit managed to pout. "They tasted like sour feet."
"Nah. But I can tell. We women got wiles an' shit." Evie waggled her fingers for emphasis."
By now, if one reaches book 7 of the Unbound series, that probably means that the reader is a fan. Finds the series enjoyable. And like the rest of the series, Abyss was an entertaining story. Most of the tale consists of battles. We have more character development for some of our main characters. The history of the world is expanded on. Oh, did I mention battles? Many great battles occur.
All that, which lead to Felix. He has to deal with the consequences of his actions, which might cost him dearly.
The sea has arrived. As Felix and his friends try to help put the now seaside city back together, the creatures of the sea attack. As they start tracking down the source of the monstrosities, he learns that the paladins have breached his territory boundary. He can’t be both places at once. Which promise will he honor?
This is by far, one of the most action packed series’s out there. Each book picks up to a break neck pace for well over 25 hours. I’m already downloading the next one! Travis Baldree did fantastic with the audio.
So just finished book 7 and granted the MC is at this point over powered. I can’t help but have one major complaint. Where is his storage skills/space/ring/etc. Usually this genre there is always a storage item. Seems like the author choose to grant Felix a core space that can only store mana, essences and significance. But I would have loved to see personal storage utilization even bout storage would have been great. But aside from no personal storage the series continues to be an awesome read and escape. 😁
This is book 7 in a fantasy LitRPG series with system and portal/isekai elements. This was a good entry in the series. Felix and company are dealing with the fallout from the previous book. Felix is torn between defending his lands and fulfilling a promise to help some allies. Most of the books in this series are a little slow in the first half with some semi-forced battles to add action but then the last half is almost unrelenting fight scenes. Felix just does not seem to get much of a break at any point.
Another great addition to this series which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This book was 1000 pages I am told, but didn’t feel like it. I enjoy the characters, their interactions and struggles plus the world building. I enjoy the conflict our main character Felix has with what is right and good versus what is expected and easier. Choosing loyalty and friendship over power is a very life affirming theme.
I really enjoyed this book. Lots of action ranging from the mundane to the outrageous and all of it with a little help from his friends. I continue to appreciate the characters in this series. They all feel like independent, well-developed, interesting characters and I thought this book, in particular, let us know Alister a little better. He felt less like a sidekick and more like he got a main cast promotion.
This series is all the action and fantastical that you could ever need. I adore this series, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the progression/ litrpg genre. Felox is a force of nature in a world that has been doing its best to kill him since he awoke on this strange Continent. This has resulted in being tempered in the fiercest of fires. I can't wait for book 8.
Thank you, Nicoli Gonnella, for bringing this world alive.
If you enjoy this series you will enjoy this book as it continues the adventures of Felix and friends. Author is certainly borrowing liberally from Wheel of Time with some of these characters but all stories of a genre do that. Book is obviously no War and Peace but fun for pulp fiction marty stu romp.
An amazing continuation in the series. Things are getting more and more hectic with Felix growing ever stronger. It is constantly borderline OP but reasonable in the general format of the story. Besides, he’s the protagonist and deserves to win. The how is the best part of it.
Omg the plot is so convoluted at times, it's all over the place, and some of the dialogues are just plain stupid as hell. Wow and captain obvious is alive and well inside most of the characters. Overall it's better than some books but I still had to skim through what I felt was a lot of uncertainty filler called content bah humbug.
I am loving these books. Each one is as good as the last! And each one is satisfyingly long. What a great value! I am strongly reminded at times of the Divine Dungeon series, but that is not to say this is derivative. On the contrary, this is a unique and creative work. I will definitely keep reading!
From an flipping an inter region from desert to giant lake mode we get us a Zelda underwater templeish adventer this novel for the 7 book and like always a really long read in over it’s thousand pages.
I couldn’t put it down very often! And when I had to, I was constantly turning over the story in my head, trying to piece everything together and guess where it was leading. A fantastic addition to the series and I’m incredibly eager for the next one!
This one is a slow burner. Action and story progression throughout that just continuously ramps up until an epic finale. No cliff hanger, but the story definitely leaves you wishing for more. Must read series.
Great writing as always. Fight scenes are never boring in these books and I’m hooked all the way through. Great progression and a lot of events happening all at once.
Terrific ending and setup for the next book. Can’t wait!
Brilliant author, brilliant writing and story... They deserve to be up there with the big dogs, Jez, Alaron,Zogarth etc... Powerful.. Highly recommend JD Glasscock Author of the Series Blood Brothers and The Dream
One of the best books I read in the past year. I loved how Felix and his friends have changed over the books and growth. I love the world building and magic so much. I eagerly await for the next book. Highly recommend this book .
