In the gritty heart of the city of Oakland California. Mercedes, a young sister just trying to make it, battles the pain and guilt of losing her baby at only nineteen. Convinced her miscarriage was her own fault, she blames herself for trusting Keyon, a reckless dope dealer who's always been nothing but trouble in the streets and for her as well. When she finally breaks free from his toxic grip, Mercedes starts building a new life with Mark, a fine, successful paralegal who keeps her feeling secure and taken care of.
But our girl Mercedes ain't no freeloader. Determined to be independent, she starts hustling at a local paint store, where she meets her fine and ambitious boss, Hemi. Life starts looking up for her, until her troubled little sis Kyla drops a Mark ain't all he's cracked up to be, living a double life with a whole other woman right under Mercedes' nose.
Heartbroken and betrayed, Mercedes' world crumbles in an instant from a thirty-second phone call. With no choice but to leave Mark, she finds herself leaning on Keyon for emotional support, only to get dragged into a world of chaos when she witnesses a cold-blooded murder and Keyon vanishes.
Hemi, who's been catching feelings for Mercedes, steps up to help her out in her darkest hour. At first, she resists, but when her back's against the wall, she gives in to the undeniable connection they share. But both Mercedes and Hemi are hiding secrets that could tear them apart. Can their love rise above the pain and deception to give them the happily ever after they both crave?
You won't be able to put down this gripping hood love story as Mercedes fights for love, forgiveness, in a world that keeps trying to break her down.
Once again the start to another great series. This was my first time reading from this author and I love it. Sometimes in life you got to let a person make their own mistakes and learn from them. Mercedes and Brenda got to let Kyla make them and learn her lessons from making them. Trey is selfish and only care about himself, he doesn't love anyone, and only using Kyla. Mark was a ain't sh*t dude that didn't deserve a good woman like Mercedes. Keyon was a dub ssa dude. I loved that Mercedes always had Kyla back through everything. I love Mercedes and Hemi together. I can't wait until part 2!
Lord what have Mercedes done got herself into😳😳...Hemi and Art friends 😬😬...Matk is a whole joke and Mercedes needs to leave that dude alone frfr..Kyla needs to open up her eyes cause Trey isn't any good with his selfish tail...Keyon definitely aint the dude for Mercedes either...I love Hemi but how will he act when he knows the truth🤔🤔..I can't wait to read the next part ‼️
I hope Hemi feels the same when he finds out what really happened to Art. I think him and Mercedes can be something great because Mark flaw azz definitely don't deserve her. The way he was talking to her when he was the one with a whole side family was messed up. I hope Kyla finally realize what a fuk boi Trey really is and treat him accordingly. 💖💖
This was a good book I enjoyed reading it I started to feel bad for Kyla but she be talkin mad reckless hope Mercedes over coming everything the drama and secrets is crazy I can't wait to read part two cause it's getting real hot these characters is off the chain for real
I loved this book and I hope Mercedes and Hemi make it. I love them together it’s a lot going on in this book. I can’t believe the sister is going through bs with her baby father after saying the drugs were hers. I hope in the next book she will realize her worth.
Ok great start. Hemi, Mark and Keyon all want Mercedes but going about it the wrong way. Now this Art situation needs to be discussed but who knows the outcome.
Mercedes was going through it. Keyon was not the man for her neither was Mark. Mark had to many secrets and her sister tried to tell her. Kyla should had listen to her mom and sister when they told her about Trey but she didn’t now she pregnant and he dogging her out crazy. Keyon left Mercedes dealing with consequences. I like Hemi for her. Can’t wait till part 2..
