About the author

I've loved both books and science fiction from an early age so for me it was inevitable I began writing. My influences include Philip K Dick, Dan Simmons, Arthur C Clarke, Ursula Le Guin, Frank Herbert and so many more - storytellers and world-builders. But other, more unconventional sources inspire my writing too, such as anime, music and cult TV shows like the BBC classic Blake’s 7 and the iconic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I enjoy creating complex characters and then putting them through it - I don't believe in characters getting an easy time. My first novel, Black Milk, was released in 2016 and I published my second, Delphine Descends, in 2019. I'm currently working on my next.

This book has an interesting and thoughtful story that reminded me a little of cloud atlas as this switches to different places and time periods. The characters have depth and are believable; although I thought the protagonist's name was an inappropriate choice for Victorian England! Some of the concepts were mind blowing such as the broadweb but I don't want to give too much away. I would highly recommend Black Milk to any science fiction reader - definitely one of my favourite books.

As a fan of Darrel’s YouTube channel I was delighted to see he had put pen to paper.
This book is full of believable characters that have depth and a personality that is engaging. The way each story intertwines to a wonderfully unexpected climax is engaging.
I would highly recommend this book to any one who is a sci fi fan…and even those who are not just to show how great this genre can be.

Intense and articulated

The premise of this book is really interesting and even though it has lots of characters I never lost track of who's who even though I have normally trouble remembering too many characters. I liked where the story was going, wanted to know more as I read on and the ending was fine if a little over the top. It's an exciting action and adventure story with some darker aspects and themes. I liked it...

BUT (yes there is a big but) this book needs an editor. I assume it did not have one, if it did they did a really poor job. There are so many typos (SO MANY!!), also lots of sentences that kind of say the same thing with just slightly different words in the same paragraph, actually repeating words in the same sentences and similar things. I'd say at least 1/4th of the book could go without any impact on the story and characters. The story could be a lot tighter and less meandering. And still I really enjoyed it which says a lot about the story. I hope in the future at some point it does get looked at by a proper editor. The story deserves it.

Also I read the ebook version of the book so maybe the print version has less errors in it.
