Chase Me (Sage McGuire 01) is a light- hearted romp into the world of quirky Sage McGuire. This girl does not run from trouble while it sure chases her down. It is totally unrealistic but totally a funny read. Is this a character who thinks before she acts? Only sometimes at work as a CEO Assistant, not once in her personal life. It is worth the read to go along on her outlandish speed dating evening. This is a short novella that I was able to read in an afternoon. In it I met her two best friends who are just as kooky as her. While they seem to meet men as easy as Sage, their stories did not feel complete. Hopefully, they will get their own sure to be humorous stories soon. The author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book.
Chase Me is the first book in a series about the quirky and funny Sage McGuire. This redhead manages to find herself a whole lot of trouble in the most unexpected of places. Then she meets Carter who sets her body on fire and her pulse racing. Of course hooking up is inevitable but when Sage runs off the next morning Carter realizes he should have been more forthcoming about who he is and what he does. So the next weekend when she runs into him again he's not letting her go without giving her a chance to get to know him. Romance takes off and Sage confides her dream to be a PI. But Carter doesn't want to see her hurt and since she won't listen to him he thinks it would be better for them to be apart.
I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from the author for voluntary review consideration.
I enjoyed this first of three books in the life of Sage McGuire. I found myself laughing out loud at the antics of Sage, and she could definitely become the poster child for klutz of the year. As typical of Sharon Kleve stories, she has quirky characters with off the wall behavior and then she throws in a sweet side too.
Sage works as an Administrative Assistant at Smithfield Laboratories and is mourning the sudden death of her boss, Mr. Smithfield, and having to deal with his son, Daniel, who has never worked a day in his life. Sage wants to become a private investigator and open her own business, but first, she must get Daniel up to speed at work, and that isn’t an easy challenge. “It’s my lifelong dream, which I’ve been working toward all my life.”
Carter Morgan and Sage meet by chance at a Mexican restaurant when she is out with her girlfriends. Plenty of flirting, dancing, and a night together, and then Sage goes into a panic with her overactive imagination and flees. Carter and Sage have a rocky relationship because he is protective of her and doesn’t want to see her hurt or in danger. “Needed: a big strong man to teach a girly-girl how to protect herself.” Learning that sometimes you have to accept a person’s dreams and let them go out of the limb is better than being apart.
The plot will keep the pages turning as the life and dreams of Sage unfolds, Unhappy in her job, wanted to become a private investigator, dealing with a protective boyfriend, crazy friends, and situations. Throw in an unstable boss, speed dating nightmare, and you will definitely be entertained. Sometimes it is all the crazy incidences that help remind you of what is most important in your life, and everything else is just stuff. There is a great cast of characters, heartwarming scenes, humorous dialog, and great chemistry between Sage and Carter. I look forward to what will happen in the next book.
Sage McGuire has the perfect job as an Executive Assistant to Mr. Smithfield at Smithfield Laboratories. When Mr. Smithfield passes away and the company is left to his son, Daniel, Sage knows she really needs to rethink about her future.
Sergeant Carter Morgan of the Portland Police Department does a great job keeping people safe but when he meets Sage one night his life takes a turn he wasn't expecting.
When Sage's actions put her in harms way one night she and Carter have a blow up about her future job aspirations. Will Carter support Sage with what she wants to do with her life or will his words push her away and lead her into more trouble?
This was a great story and I loved the fun nature of Sage. She was very dedicated to her job but unfortunately her new boss, Daniel, had his own issues which made Sage question what she wanted to do. I love her friendship with Bridget and Ophelia and they had lots of fun together.
The chemistry between Sage and Carter is hot but Carter really wants to protect Sage from any harm. Yet he trying to protect her leads to a few things out of both of their hands. I loved the two together and was pretty mad at Carter for some of his actions!
I truly hope that the author continues these characters in future stories as I'd love to hear what happens next!!
This was a fun, romantic read. Sage with her wild imagination and Carter with his protective wild side, these two make an amazing pair. Sharon Kleve adds humour to real life situations in her stories and makes everything come to life.
1st in the Sage McGuire series. Sage meets Carter at her local hangout and decides to go home with him. She has second thoughts the next morning. This is a funny, cute, dangerous short story about Carter & Sage's connection and how neither gives up on their love.
This is the first book in this series. This book has very loveable characters. This is a rom/com read and its fantastic. I just couldn't put this book down till I'd finished it. This is a sweet, fun story, perfect for the beach. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future. Highly recommended I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader coy of this book.
Neither Carter or Sage have had a good day. For Carter, a narcotics cop, all he wants is to order dinner and beer before going home and getting some much needed sleep. As for Sage, an executive assistant, she's having girls' night out with her two best friends, while mourning the loss of her long-time boss, Mr. Smithfield.
However, there plans change as they notice each other and both are intrigued and know they won't be spending the night alone. After a very thorough exploration of one another, numerous times throughout the night, Sage wakes alone the next morning, unaware Carter is planning to bring her breakfast in bed, then go over her body again inch by inch. Unfortunately for Carter, Sage's imagination gets the best of her after snooping and upon seeing how sparse Carter's place is, lumps to the conclusion he must be a serial killer and she barely escapes with her life. LOL Okay, she called one of her best friends for a ride.
A week later, both unable to stop thinking about the other, they unexpectedly meet again at the same place and Carter explains that he's a cop and had been staying in his brother's rental while his own place was having some work done.
The two agree to sit and talk, sharing some kisses, about their lives. Carter learns of the changes at Sage's job and that the owner's son was now in charge, and not at all qualified for his new position. This is impacting Sage in numerous ways, one of which is leading her to finally follow her dream and become a private investigator.
That begins a whirlwind romance for Carter and Sage as they start spending every minute they can together. It's obvious they've found something special, and it's that happiness that's helping her get through work every day.
But when Sage and her friends unknowingly crash a bar where Carter is working undercover, and they don't hesitate to "assist" him, Sage gets hurt and yeah, it scares Carter. So much so that he asks her to set aside her dream and stay in her current profession, where it's safe. When Sage refuses, Carter essentially calls her unreasonable and before either of them know it, Sage, near tears, asks Carter to leave. He does, but his parting words leave them both knowing this is the end of something beautiful.
“Take care, Sage.” - Carter
However, Sage's safety in her future job isn't what Carter should be worried about as she's in danger much sooner than he thought she'd be. When Carter realizes she may be in danger, nothing will stop him from getting to her, nor will he ever let her go again.
Will Carter save Sage? Can they compromise regarding her job? Or will Carter continue to insist she let go of her dream job and play it safe? Does he see the irony as his job is also full of danger? Will Carter and Sage make up and get their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people meet and what was meant to be just one night becomes so much more than either could ever imagine.

I received this from the author to read and review. Chase Me is a good but too short book. The story concern Sage, who is out with friends, when she meets a hunky man in a bar. After a quick one-night stand, Sage and the hunk, who turns out to be Sergeant Carter Morgan of the Portland Police Department, a cop working undercover narcotics, hits it off and begin a relationship. Sage is currently working as an Executive Assistant to a man whose father used to be her boss and who recently died. The new boss, Daniel, is a spoiled boy, who has no idea what the job is or how to do it. Thus, Sage is literally “carrying him along”, hoping he gets with the program. However, after watching Daniel fumble around in the job for a while and picking up pieces after him, Sage decides it is time to cut her losses and become the PI she always wanted to be. Carter Morgan, however, thinks she is not quite ready for the big time as a PI, and tries to persuade Sage to back off the job. When Sage won’t, Carter backs off from the relationship himself, realizing Sage us too hard-headed to heed his warnings, wanting to re-evaluate the relationship What happens next is a good story, with lots of romance, humor and promise. The story was good, but way too short to allow any good character development. I figured this was because it is the first in a series about Sage and her life, so development will come in time. However, I think this story would have been better a bit longer, and with more character development. Sage, as the story reads, is fun, quirky and ready for anything—most of which she neither anticipates or realizes will come her way. Carter is the serious, safety minded man beside/behind her, constantly worrying about what sage is getting herself into. Sage’s two girlfriends, who give advice and show up at crucial times to help out, are a fantastic addition to the story line, and I hope to see more of them later. There were also a bunch of Carter’s fellow officers in the book, but one prominent enough to get any impressions of them. They also will probably show up and become more developed as the series progresses. In short, this is a good start to what looks like could be a good series. There were some things I did not like, such as the lack of character development, but the writing is well done and the story moves along at a nice, fast clip, so I was not bored or waiting for something to happen. I am ready to move on to the next book and hopefully see more character development of those introduced in this book as well as more fun-filled antics of Sage, the newly minted PI, and her cop beau Carter.
Sage McGuire is an administrative assistant with a dream of opening up her own P.I. business, whom also attracts mayhem and danger like no other. When she meets the man of her dreams while out with her besties, her world goes from BORING to crazy wild after just one night in bed with him. Will Sage survive her own bad luck, or will she end up in a dead end job for the rest of her life!
The story begins with the death of Sage's boss Mr. Smithfield. Just when she was ready to resign and start her P.I. gig, her boss's worthless son takes over the company not knowing what in the world to do! He's never had to actually work a day in his life, so he is totally clueless. She feels bad, and is loyal to the company, so she stays long enough to teach the idiot the ropes. Meanwhile she hooks up with a gorgeous man at a bar, has mind blowing sex, then freaks out because she thinks he's a serial killer. No actual proof that he is, just super paranoia kicks in and she bolts! With some help from her friends Bridget and Ophelia, Sage talks things out with hunky one night stand (aka Carter) only to find out he is a narcotics cop! Now things are getting interesting. From there a romance begins...
This short romantic comedy lives up to it's hype! It's funny, romantic, and strange, which is what pulled me in so quickly. Sage is uber smart as an administrative assistant, but totally unprepared for being a private eye. She has no fighting skills, no weapons, and no clue how dangerous any missing persons case can get in the blink of an eye. So when Carter tries to talk to her about it, she doesn't back down from her dream. This part of the story was a disconnect for me because yeah, Sage never trained, no mention of mentoring with anyone, or anything else that one would do to become a private eye. The way the story is told, she appears to be jumping in with both feet and no clue. Then she has the nerve to get pissed at love interest Carter because he points that out to her. Really! Carter on the other hand is fantastic! He's gorgeous, a kick ass cop, and is a romantic at heart. I fell hard for Carter, and he also has a charming personality to boot. Ugh, gotta love him! Best friends Bridget and Ophelia seem like a hoot, and compliment one another so well. The trio make for funny antics, and amusing romantic rendezvous, which are all very entertaining.
**Book provided by the author for an honest review**
There are times when I do not want a book full of angst, or drama. I do not want to unravel a complex mystery or untangle a love triangle. I simply want a story that will take me away from my own crazy day, let me relax with fun, good friends and laughter… lots and lots of laughter. That is exactly what Chase Me, the first of the Sage McGuire Romance stories did for me. Pure escape and laughter. If you cannot find something to chuckle about in this romp, then my friend you need to hit the bed and call it a bad day.
Sage and her best friends are out on the town commiserating the death of Sage’s boss – and the craziness that is about to happen in her life when his indulged, spoiled, never worked a day in his life son takes over. It’s not gonna be pretty folks.
When Sage and Carter’s eyes meet across the bar their lives are going to change – and we are in for one heck of a fun romp while they work their way to a happy for now ending Look, I do’t intend to spoil this really funny story for you. It’s fast paced hilarity that is almost non-stop. Sage gets herself into some of the craziest situations, yet every single time you’re going to find something funny about it. Romantic comedy, oh yeah definitely.
I liked it, I had such fun with it and I definitely laughed until my sides hurt. My family may be looking at me a bit strangely right now, but they’ll get over it. *grin*. If you’re having a bad day, if you just want to escape and have some fun for a little bit then go pick up Chase Me and enjoy yourself. And the fun won’t stop there as there are at least two more Sage McGuire Romance stories to move on to after this one. Go on, have some fun today.
I just love these short, quick reads that you can easily do in one or two sittings! This was a fun, flirty read. I loved the quirky characters - very good character development even for a short story. I still got a good feel for Sage's personality. I also liked Carter :-) And... well I kind of agree with Carter - I don't think Sage should be a PI. But I don't think she is going to listen to either of us! LOL Now, Daniel (Sage's new boss) He was a real mystery - I am really curious about him. I hope the next book explains more. I get the feeling something's up with him that we don't see.
Was the story believable? Not necessarily. But I don't feel that all fiction stories have to be real - it is "fiction"! Sometimes I just want a fun, feel good type book, and that's what this was. It entertained me! It served its purpose! And now I am looking forward to the next one! This was a great summer pool-side read!
If you are looking for something not too serious, a little suspense and a lot of fun - this is the book for you!
OH!!! PS&BTW - I love the cover! Isn't it cute?
I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from the author - Sharon Kleve - Thank You!
If you are looking for a short, funny, semi-insta-love kind of read then look no further.
Sharon Kleve delivers that ten fold. Sage is an Administrative Assistant at Smithfield Laboratories and has recently lost her boss. She's now dealing with his son Daniel who hasn't worked a day in her life. But she's counting down the time of showing him the ropes and when she can open her own business as a PI.
Sage meets Carter by chance one night and puts caution to the wind and goes home with him. But upon wake up her overactive imagination takes flight thinking all these different things about Carter. One being that he's a serial killer.
Finally getting down to the truth that Carter is a Narcotic's Detective things spark from there. But what happens when Sage tells him of her dream of becoming a PI? Will he help her obtain that goal or is it too much for his protectiveness of her to handle?
These characters will have you laughing off the edge of your seat. At least they did for me. I can't wait to see what is next in the Sage McGuire Series.
Sage is a fabulous character - smart, sassy, loyal and yes, sizzling hot. She had a great job for a wonderful boss who somehow managed to get himself killed doing something completely out of character, namely, bungee jumping while on honeymoon with his extremely young new wife. Now, Sage has to put up with his dumbed down offspring as the new CEO. While having a drink or three with her best gal pals, the trio spot a gorgeous man sitting on his own, and with one come-hither smile, Sage finds herself dancing and leaving the bar with Carter Morgan. When she wakes the next morning to a cold bed and barely any personal belongings in the entire house but lots of extra strength garbage bags, she hightails it out of there, suspecting Carter was probably a serial killer. But hey, a girl's gotta take a chance every now and then, right? Feisty women heroine in the vein of Stephanie Plum, Sage is a great character. Loads of witty dialogue and downright hilarious situations.
This is a great book; this is the first book in the Sage McGuire series written by Sharon Kleve. Sage McGuire had a great job she loved. All that changed in the blink of an eye when her long-time boss, Mr. Smithfield, had an accident involving an over-sized rubber band. When Mr. Smithfield’s semi-worthless son, Daniel, takes over Smithfield Laboratories Sage figures it’s time to turn her childhood dream of being a PI into reality. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
Sage McGuire is a girl who seems to find trouble wherever she goes. She meets Carter in a bar and they spend an amazing, sex-filled night together. When she wakes up alone the next day in his very impersonal house, she is convinced he's a serial killer gone to buy supplies to killer her. So she runs away. A week later, she runs into him again, but luckily he manages to convince her otherwise by showing her his police bag. Another sex-filled night later, they profess their love to one another. But when Sage stumbles upon him on an undercover operation, she gets herself into big trouble and ends up in hospital.
I loved their relationship: it starts out hot and heavy and stays that way throughout the short story. They fall in love in quickly, but it suits their personalities so it was quite believable. Despite Sage acting stupid, I liked it.
Chase Me (A Sage McGuire Romance Book #1) was a great read by Sharon Kleve.Sage McGuire had a job that she loved. That all changed in the blink of an eye when her long-time boss, Mr. Smithfield, died in an accident. His semi-worthless son, Daniel, takes over Smithfield Laboratoriesand Sage realizes that its time to become a PI like she’s dreamed of. She has mind blowing sex with Sergeant Carter Morgan of the Portland Police Department and then mistakes him for a serial killer. She ends up coming back for more when she realizes that he isn’t a serial killer at all. I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
A fun, quirky read. I love that despite being independent, Sage is also such a magnet for chaos and accidents. Concussion trying to save her crush, the disaster of her attempted speed dating (which left me with aching ribs from laughing so hard) .....
Oh my god and the cupcake shop!!!!!! The author has a new fan cuz this series is hilarious....I can't wait to get into book two.
This is a quick read, but boy is it good. The story is well written and moves at a fast pace. The characters are unique and that will become more fully developed with each story. I love the snarky comments Sage makes throughout Chase Me and I am so looking forward to the next book.
This was a fun intro into Sage's world. She's a great character with a lot of spunk. I could totally relate to her clutzy tendencies and the way her mind works. This is a fun, easy, summer read for the beach or the porch swing. It will make you laugh out loud at Sage's antics.
loved this book! Sharon Kleve writes the best stories. I love Sage McGuire! I cannot wait to read book 2! I received this book as a gift and so happy i did! It is a sweet fast read. You will enjoy it as much as I have.
Oh è una serie, che caso. Ma non credo leggerò i prossimi. Lei è demente, lui un figo stratosferico e fantastico ma non lo si include molto nella storia. Peccato.
A good start to a new romance series with a twist, the main character wants to be a PI. I hope to read more about the cases Sage works on after becoming a PI as the series continues. Sage has it all together in her professional life, but she's a little all over the place in her personal life. She sleeps with a possible serial killer, quits her steady job, and gets mixed up in an undercover Op. While dreaming of being a PI she has one bad blind date after another. Carter, the alleged serial killer, is actually a police officer. The romance between Sage and Carter starts as a raging fire and ends with sizzling embers. I can't wait to continue Sage's story to see how her journey progresses personally and professionally. And more Carter, please!!!
What a kooky bunch of characters. This was a fun story. Looking forward to hearing more from Sage and her friends. Carter did not expect someone like Sage to come along, but she crashed into his life and he wants her to stay there. That is until she puts herself in danger. His job is dangerous, but he is a policeman and is trained. Sage is not. But after all is said and done, they can't stand to be away from each other. Sage is going to make Carter's life hectic, but he has to be with her.
This was great fun, mostly due to Sage, she was a very free spirited girl but the rest of the characters were memorable also, especially her new boss, he needed a little help to settle in with his new role. Carter's a cool guy, he meets Sage by chance and they have fun, he didn't expect to want to see her again....but he does. He's a cop and his life is hectic and dangerous, he want's to keep safely away from her, but he can't. A really enjoyable story, full of fun.
This is a cute single sitting book. My only issue is I personally didn't care for the female lead in the book. Other than that it was a sweet yo-yo of a love story.
Fun and outrageous and entertaining … Sage Maguire is quite the character. From the moment we meet her, craziness seems to follow her from a sexy hook-up that to a day of crazy speed dating. She finds herself in one mishap or another but none of this diminishes her dream to be a private investigator. Not even sexy detective Carter who steams up her sheets. Carter is pulled to Sage but is fearful of her career dream especially when she keeps finding trouble. Can these two find common ground? Loved this fun, sexy escape. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
