When his father dies, Doppler decides to leave everything behind and start a new life in the forest. There, deep amongst the trees, he reconnects with nature, ponders the meaning of life, and bonds with a baby elk called Bongo.
Sweet, funny and subversive, this is a charming fable about the pressures of modern existence and finding friends in the strangest of places.
A satirical work about conformity, I enjoyed the sarcasm of the main character Doppler and that some things have to be read as meta about how absurd the word can be, but it lost a star for me, as some parts about e.g. himself comparing with Africa and the lack of empathy for his wife or just for societal care, or that he has this black white vision about conformity and care versus freedom and creativity. Doppler seems well aware of certain things and critical about e.g. aggression; but makes stupid remarks and shoots arrows to to people. Doppler is not a character I would like to have as a friend, only through some sarcasm and reminding myself that this is a piece of absurdism. I do not think the author wants us to like this character.
Dear Mr.Loe, you have a way with your words. How one can say so much, build a world, and yet we remain in the same place, is impressive. I was lost in the first half just wondering where this would go… but i realized, no where. And started to enjoy more. I have 2 emotions as we progress and its 😂 & 🥹.
What a bitter, bitter man. 😂
“Furthermore, I like the fact that there are people who dont like snow……. But now the buggers at the Meterorological Institute are taking the snow away from me.” 😂😂
The robbery. 😂😂😂

Still trying to figure out what I just read.A interesting cast of characters all at an impasse, all in life various crisis stages trying to figure out what to do next. I could see my husband wanting to pull a move like Doppler, Only we don't have elk in Brooklyn so I guess it would have to be a raccoon.
It’s a little odd food for thought book. Norwegian author, a man who crashes his bike in the woods just out of town, decides to live there, as he doesn’t like people. Gives on lots to think about. Apparently there is a followup book
I feel like sentences and story looks like coming out of 5 years old boy. Sentences are not enough to express thoughts of author. Main character hates people, why? We don’t know. Many character have some issue or thought, no back round. It is soulless almost. Have had hard time to force myself finish it and hope to see some proper progress and results but nothing. I feel like author is lack of professionalism.
It is a hilarious, heartwarming, and wonderfully cozy story that gives us a refreshing perspective on modern life. The characters are absolutely adorable! It’s an easy read—perfect for a cold winter evening, wrapped in a warm blanket.
