No storm bows to reason. Quentin's trip to the desert with his chosen family is supposed to be two days of testing the limits of their powers. Instead, a violent storm looms on the horizon, and nothing will alter its course. The storm has a Nate Anderson. Demigod, supremacist, leader of a neo-Nazi Übermensch cabal... and father to Quentin's latest ward, Mel. He means to take her home, and won't let a ragtag group of "inferior" psychics get in his way. Besieged and outgunned, Quentin is trapped in a no-win scenario. No matter which way he turns, one fateful night will change him forever.
I liked how Laurence and Quentin were working together again in this one, and with some of their friends and allies. Some different friends and allies than in the last book, but still, I liked the group dynamics.
This was an emotional one for Laurence, especially. I mean, these characters are continually working through their trauma (something the author really keeps in mind), so that's always there, but Laurence was extra doing that this time.
Also Quentin was so badass. So powerful.
The past couple books didn't have sex scenes (I don't think), but this one did, and hoo boy! It was HOT. I loved the decision to show it from Quentin's POV, because a lot of sex scenes I've read with this sort of power dynamic (one partner is in control and giving the pleasure/punishment and the other is at their mercy and receiving it) show it from the submissive POV. But it was so hot seeing it through Quentin's perspective, how it felt for him being in control, having someone as powerful and fiery as Laurence give in to him (consensually). Also a great decision to show it from his POV just because of his character and his history and what it's like for him having these sexual experiences now. And it was still obvious that Laurence loved it too.
There was also some action and lots of use of supernatural abilities, which is always interesting.
Another great book in the series, and I'm looking forward to more!

The book follows an already formed found family and a super cute couple. This makes sense considering this is the ninth book in the saga. The story and plot are filled with the consequences of what has happened to them before. And how they must face past trauma and new difficulties just makes the story go deeper. Each character is a world on its own. Each different narration adds to the story in a way I wasn't expecting at all. The story hokes you up from the very beginning. The complexity of a world where each of them has to hide their gifts is incredible. The dynamics among the group of adults and teens are also super well written. I can honestly say that this book was really incredible to read. The complexity of the topics that are part of the story is amazing. The way in which the adventure of urban fantasy mixes with developed and complex scenarios is on point. It's the perfect mix of fun and social critiques. So you can easily expect an emotional rollercoaster. And a journey filled with social issues, trauma, and lots of different representations. Of which NONE are forced. I wish more sagas were like this one. Honest, I cant wait to see where Quentin and Lorence will go next!
Yesss people we are already 9 books in the inheritance series! I enjoyed the first book of this series immensely but ended up with a lot of questions, where’s the plot going, how elaborate is this worldbuilding and magic system? Slowly throughout the series I got - SOME - of the answers haha!
It’s been a WHILE since I read a series this long but I’m here for it! This allowed for a good buildup of plot and to really shape the characters! And these characters oh oh, Quentin and Laurence throughout these books you’ve made me feel many emotions - I’ve felt sad, annoyed, shocked, frustrated, happy - with the communication struggles, angst and past-stories! 🥺 oh how I loved seeing these characters grow. I loved how they formed a group, their chosen family and I loved loved loved also reading more about the side characters in this book.
One of my favourite things to see in books is multiple POVS and that was certainly the case in Runes of Fall! I think it created a nice flow and it’s good to sometimes see things from a different characters’ perspective 👀 One of the things I did still have to get used to ( yes, even tho this is book 9 😂) was the writing style. For me personally the chapters are a bit too short - I prefer longer chapters, and the writing is quite descriptive at some points, butttt I have to say that when sh*t hits the fan and we get more characters together there’s plenty of dialogue happening and I flew through the pages! Also the interesting magic/gods/mythology and fantasy elements kept my mind entertained thoroughly! And the last chapters *squeal* oh my gosh new revelations it never stops haha! I cannot wait to read the next instalment!
Thank you so much @pridebooktours and @poopraven for organising this booktour and providing me with a copy!
Laurence and Quentin, together with their chosen family, are off to spend time in Disneyland. With gifts-a-plenty, the group makes their way into the desert after their adventure to the happiest place on Earth. I was glad to see Quentins' friend Neil back in the book.
The little insecurities that I remember from book one still have a place in this book. Both guys have moments of not feeling good enough and not being entirely upfront about past experiences. I was happy to see at the same time how much these two have grown over time.
I love how these books talk about the different gods and goddesses that their talents/gifts were inherited from. There are shapeshifters, telekinesis, psychics, and more in this book.
I enjoyed how Quentin and Laurence made their home and lives a safe place for people to enter; everyone was accepted, and I really appreciate that.
I enjoyed this book, and thank A.K. Faulkner and Pride Book Tours for the eARC in exchange for a review.
I liked this one a lot! While I thought this was going to be a bigger more extensive plot than it was, I liked the introduction of new points of view and the overall character development. This is one of my favorite series!!
