This book is without a doubt used over and over more than any other non-cookbook book I own. I'm getting ready to "row" through another year with Kindergarten...she'll be my fourth "rower" (wow, that means I started it 15 years ago). The only reason it doesn't get all 5 stars is that A) the Bible supplement is extra, causing me to either buy an extra book or make up my own Bible connections and B)I have to weave in all my own Catholic threads which of course is not the author's fault as she's not Catholic but definitely something I want worked into the fabric we make of the story and its "rabbit trails."

I started using this book for Greta's preschool. I love how it takes a picture book and pulls out enrichment activities and things to teach. Our first lesson today and we covered the geography, money, and dress of China. We ate rice with chopsticks, talked about buoyancy and did floating a experiment. We discussed habits of ducks and counted to 42. Then recreated one of the illustrations with colored pencils and the sun reflecting on the water. We finished up playing with the reflection in a hand mirror. This same series has levels for younger and older kids.

Published originally in 1994, I keep hearing about this series of books. It's a way of using picture books to teach many different things. You read the book each day with your child and each day you talk about some different aspect of it. I adore picture books. I don't know many of the picture books listed well. I'm going to try this.

This is one of my favorite resources for early childhood education. I still reference their reading lists when looking for a good book to read to the little ones. I love the concepts they teach and credit this program with my children's love of reading.
