Flamant Castle is preparing for a great banquet. Tommy the sword girl, has no time for the feasting. She has to sharpen and prepare swords for the knights, as they will soon depart to patrol the borderlands of a sworn enemy. While on errand for the blacksmith, Tommy overhears two enemies of the castle plotting to poison Sir Walter. But with the knights off on patrol, it is up to Tommy to find a way to foil the plot, expose the enemy, and stop a war.
The Poison Plot is the second tale in the Sword Girl series. This short title is full of adventure and intriguing characters. Swords that have taken on the personalities of their previous owners advise Tommy, as does the moat’s crocodile and the castle cat. Tommy herself was once a scullery maid, but now is Keeper of the Blades and dreams of someday being a knight. A fun read and a good title for readers that have transitioned to chapter books.

This is the second book in the series. I read this aloud to my 4 year old daughter and 6 year old son as a bedtime story over two nights. My son corrects me if I accidently say crocodile "He's a crocodiddle Mum". My son also loved to check with me "does droppings mean poo?" - yes it does. Another great fantasy adventure with a strong female character.
