Summary: Mildred and Ed have been friends forever. Ed is quite strange with all of his skills and interests. Mildred gets frustrated with how well he is at almost everything and yells at on Ed. This starts a tiff between the two friends. Mildred meets a new friend, but all she is worried about is looking good and herself. Mildred starts to miss Ed, his friendship, and his chocolate cake making skills. They become friends again when he writes her name in the ice while skating, and she returns the favor by getting him a nice pen.

Evaluation: I think that the book was a great depiction of how friends should work through their problems. I thought that the illustrations fit well with the text on the page. Also, the lesson was clear and to the point. I liked the addition of the third-party character to add a little comic relief.

Teaching idea: I think this could be read aloud to the class as a general book that is read daily. The lesson for the book is friendship, so if you read it during the first week of school they could see what a true friend is supposed to act like (and not act like). The book teaches them how to resolve problems as well. Gift giving does not always have to be the answer. They can resolve it by talking it out too.
