Here are the keys to unlocking effective intercessory prayer. With encouragement, powerful testimonies and keen biblical guidance, pastor and bestselling author Jack Hayford offers the insight you need to pray more effectively for God's grace, goodness and power in the lives of those you love. Pastor Jack also reveals how to
- answer God's divine invitation to partnership - apply the basic promises of God to prayer - launch a counterattack against the enemy - help bring about victory in others' lives - pray for someone you'd rather not pray for - and more
Regardless of the situation, you can pray with rightful authority, perseverance and confidence. Stand in the gap for those you love and watch God's answers come.
Jack Williams Hayford (born June 25, 1934) is an American author, Pentecostal minister, and Chancellor Emeritus of The King's University (formerly The King's College and Seminary). He is a former senior pastor of The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California and was the fourth President of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. He is widely known for his past involvement in the Promise Keepers movement and for being a prolific author and songwriter, with over 600 hymns and choruses in his catalog. He is the author of the popular 1978 hymn "Majesty", which is rated as one of the top 100 contemporary hymns and performed and sung in churches worldwide.
Dr. Jack Hayford's book on Intercessory Prayer is a book that explores a prayer life dedicated to others. The subtitle is Unleashing God's Power in the Lives of Those You Love.
When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden they were separated from God as we are all now, before salvation. Jesus came and died so that we could be restored to the family. There must be restoration of all mankind to God.
When satan decieved Adam and Eve into giving over their right to reign and rule over the earth the battle to get it back began. Dr. Jack Hayford describes this event as the planting of the sin seed into the earth. Like the weed it is it grew and expanded until it covered the whole earth.
When we pray we are doing Spiritual Battle against the devil. The battle is never relational or between you and another person, it is always a Spiritual battle. Knowing this Dr. Hayford spends the rest of this book discussing how praying for another to be saved is never a battle with them.
God calls us to be examples, but one of my favorite quotes from the book is, "Guilt Motivation is Always Loveless". Dr. Hayford spends a lot of time discussing how we should and should not behave toward the unbelievers we are praying for.
Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.
The biblical stories of the farmer who tends to his seed planted in the ground and the women who adds yeast to her bread dough are used to illustrate how God takes our small input and expands it beyond our own ability. A little yeast rises the whole dough.
In every area of Intercessory Prayer God asks us to "Pray and get out of the Way". Don't stop a move of God by digging up the seed you planted.
The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer really is a book about the battle with the devil and the relationship with the unbeliever. Knowing your place in each area will allow God to Unleash His Power in the Lives of Those You Love.
This Audiobook, narrated by Maurice England gives many everyday examples of how to and not to act. A key example is Dr. Hayford's suggestion to "Forgive the Unsaved Person you are Praying for, for not Being Saved". This and other key revelations are why I highly recommend this book for all Christians.
A helpful book on prayer that teaches a dependence on God, and gives us power in this spiritual battle that is constantly happening around us. It is for this reason that we are called to pray without ceasing, as the battle does not cease when we do. There is some good advice and a few interesting thoughts, a selection of which I have included below. However; there is little new here, and less that is practical. Still, this is a useful book for any who desire to grow in their prayer life.
"Our hopes do not lie to us, our fears do."
"While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We must also forgive those who have not accepted Christ."
"The darkness that cursed Egypt was not brought by God, but rather it by His absence."
"Many rebel against a God who does not exist. Our role is to show them the real God."
"Often the least, and the greatest thing we can do is pray."
“God’s will that the affairs of humankind be managed via partnership with Him goes back to the beginning. He has indicated His desire to release His power in our world when we request it from His throne.”
"The Secret of Intercessory Prayer" by Jack Hayford is a profound exploration of the transformative power of intercession. Hayford, a respected figure in Christian ministry, delves into the spiritual depth of prayer, offering insights and practical guidance for those seeking a richer and more meaningful prayer life.
Throughout the book, Hayford unravels the mysteries of intercessory prayer, emphasizing its significance in connecting with God's heart and participating in His redemptive work. The author's teachings are grounded in biblical principles, making the book a valuable resource for individuals and groups looking to deepen their understanding of prayer.
What sets this book apart is its blend of theological depth and accessible language. Hayford manages to convey profound spiritual truths in a way that resonates with readers of various backgrounds and levels of spiritual maturity. "The Secret of Intercessory Prayer" is not just a guide but an invitation to a dynamic and transformative journey of communion with God through the power of intercession.
I saw this book on my search for growing more in intercessory prayer, and am I glad I found it! There is so much revelation, so much wisdom nuggets within this book. I have recommended this book to so many and I recommend it to anyone who would like to grow in their prayer life. Something that I learnt is that when praying for others, there shouldn't be pride in our hearts. We should ensure that we pray with pure intentions and motives. Something that really spoke to me is about praying for those outside of our comfort zones and for those we have stopped praying for.
This book is incredibly inspiring! There is much encouragement to pray for the ones you love in this book, and there is instruction in the ” how to”. This isn't just a book for beginners though - although somehow I always feel like a beginner in prayer. I feel like starting it again, for this isn't just a book to read, but a book to DO.
This book is amazing. It touches so many areas of intercession and really cleared up a lot of untruths I had perceived about intercession. What a blessing and rich book of wisdom and practice for the body of Christ to dive into.
I HIGHLY recommend reading this book! Read it with the Holy Spirit and experience deep transformation in your heart and subsequently, the way you intercede.
The Secrets Of Intercessory Prayer - Unleashing God's Power in the Lives of Those You Love by Jack Hayford is a a powerful read which is aptly titled and delivered well that which it promised. Beginning with Chapter Ones's "A Divine Invitation to Partnership" and our call to partner with God in prayer, to the final chapter "Having Done All, Stand" Pastor Hayford divides and conquers the obstacles to our intercessory prayer lives and leads us on to new hope to persevere in prayer.
As a Moms In Prayer leader and one who desires to have a healthy personal prayer life I read a lot of books on prayer, and this is one of the most practical books on intercessory prayer I have come across. Specifically challenging the hearts of those who desire to intercede for others by first examining their own hearts toward those whom they pray, makes this read immediately applicable. I found myself pondering the points and reflecting on steps I could take immediately apply with regard to addressing and assessing my own prayer "attitude". Oh my heart was rejoicing at the wisdom presented in this book and I pray that every Christian would read and apply it. I intend to share it with my Prayer Partner and Co-Leader and then would like to read through it again.
I really liked the way Believers were called out for some of the self-righteous and holier than thou attitudes that pollute and permeate Christian circles which can hinder prayers being answered. I appreciate also the way I was convicted in the chapter "Praying For Someone You Don't Want To Pray For" because God so often calls me to do just that. The reminder that "God does not sign off on people who sign off on Him" is a reminder every single professing Christian needs to remember. Loaded with powerful quotes worth further reflection and practically applicable to the life of all who desire to intercede effectually and effectively for their loved one, I highly recommend this book.
I received this book for free from Chosen Books in return for the purpose of review. The opinions expressed are completely my own.
In his book The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer: Unleashing God’s Power in the Lives of Those You Love, Pastor Jack Hayford taps into the unfulfilled longing many of us have to see our unsaved family members and friends come to faith.
Built on the foundational ideas that God loves our loved ones more than we do, and that there are principles of partnership with God discoverable, he tackles the subject of how to pray for them from many angles. In twelve short but loaded chapters he discusses subjects like what prayer accomplishes in God’s scheme of things, praying as husband and wife, praying for children, praying comfort for each other, even how to pray for those we’d rather not pray for!
His teachings are grounded in Scripture. Sometimes he takes a Bible character and extracts principles about prayer from their story. At other times he roams the Bible, collecting texts from the Old and New Testaments for us. Of course he also shares stories from his life and ministry—incidents which add color and show what the principles he’s talking about look like when transposed into everyday living.
I found his teaching on prayer insightful and encouraging. Especially encouraging was the chapter “Doing Your Part and Letting God Do His.” In it he reminds us that there is only so much we can do to reach our loved ones, the final results are in God’s hands, but will be affected in a big way by our prayers for them.
The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer will help you pray for loved ones with sharpened focus and strengthened faith. It would make a valuable addition to the prayer section of any home or church library.
(I received a copy of this book as a gift from the publisher with the purpose of writing a review.)
I recently had the opportunity to read and review The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer by Jack Hayford, once I started reading the book, I could not put it down!!!
Within three pages I was hooked. Wonderfully written, saturated in God's promises and easy to read with practical tips make this a MUST have book for everyone.
I enjoyed that this book looked into our own thoughts/opinions and how that sometimes hinders us in our prayer life. Sometimes we get so caught up in the "ME" thinking that we forget we were created to depend on God for everything. I also enjoyed how Pastor Hayford related the Biblical truths to life today; showing that the bible still pertains, that it is not outdated.
Two very powerful chapters for me: 1. Chapter 3 - War Against the Spirit of Separation. This chapter opened my eyes to the ways I have hindered my own prayers for others. How quickly satan can blind us and make us indifferent to others.
2. Chapter 11 - Praying for Someone You Don't Want to Pray For. We have all been there. We have all had people that we rather not pray for. We fall into a trap of turning our backs on those who don't think or act like we do. We say it's because they don't live a Christian lifestyle, never realizing how un-Christian we have become by living with that thinking.
If you are looking to deepen your prayer life or you are just starting to pray, this book is for you. I can't quite put into words how inspiring and powerful it is.
I received a free copy of this book to review from Chosen Books.
The subtitle is Unleashing God’s Power in the Lives of Those You Love. This book is about prayer and the many different times it is mentioned and used in the Bible with an emphasis on praying for others. I liked the concept of this book, ways we can pray for those around us during certain circumstances. Using examples from his personal life and the Bible, the author shows that no matter the situation you are going through you can find a way to pray for the other person.
I gave this book 4/5 stars. I liked the Biblical examples and thought they were well placed and explained. I also liked all the Biblical references presented to the reader. I took the time to look most of them up and found they aptly applied to the principle being discussed. Although there were great examples of ways to pray I gave this book a lower rating because I felt it did not flow from chapter to chapter. I would describe it as different essays all put together to make a book. There was not as much cohesiveness as I thought should be there. However, if you are looking for a book that highlights ways to pray for others this is a good book to read.
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
Here are the keys to unlocking effective intercessory prayer. With encouragement, powerful testimonies and keen biblical guidance, pastor and bestselling author Jack Hayford offers the insight you need to pray more effectively for God's grace, goodness and power in the lives of those you love.
The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer by Jack Hayford is probably one of the best books I have read on this subject. This book is filled with helpful suggestions on how to pray for those who are not Christians, as well as ways we can relate to them. I especially appreciated the information about remembering to let God do His part, praying for our children, praying for those we don’t want to pray for and praying without ceasing. While I found the title to be slightly misleading (I really did not find any ‘secrets”) the content was very useful and invigorating. I have already shared portions of The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer with my Bible study friends. I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The Secrets of Intercessory Prayer was well written, and gives you many spiritual truths to mediate on. Although this book is easy to read and hard to put down, allow your self the time for this book to change your pray life as it was meant too.
This is a book that I won here on 'goodreads'. It is a short but wise book with many biblically supported tips on praying for the people we love. The whole book speaks of genuine and practical ways to pray. I highly recommend this book if you are seeking new ways to grow in your prayer life.
